Romney's VP pick

Everyone agrees that we should reduce the deficit.

But the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest have already cost us $1.7 trillion and, if extended, would cost another $600 billion. The wealthiest have done the best in this economy, increasing their net worth, whereas everyone else has lost on their assets. Yet Romney/Ryan would would tax the middle class more, and cut Medicare by $700 billion, to pay for another tax break for the wealthiest?

This GOP slavish adherence to trickle down, which the last 30-40 years has proven is a dead concept, is where the election will be fought.

It is interesting to note that Romney/Ryan have avoided the phrase "trickle down" like the plague. Yet that is exactly the theory behind their proposals. It did not work in the 90's or the 2000's. Got to prime the pump on the other end.

Didn't we just have a thread with data showing that the recession has hit the wealthy the hardest? Can you back this up?

Nobody has slavishly adhered to trickle down. You live in an alternate reality...oh yeah, and the "Bush tax cuts" are now Obama's tax cuts.

of course it is. Anyone willing to voice that we're spending too much on vote buying is going to be unpopular.

This surprises me. I thought he would poll much better than he is.

IMO, Ryan is more presidential than the two nominees.

His role as one of the leaders in the House and his budget proposal may be the problem . Congress is polling very low.

Pkt... We get it, your boy lost (or never attempted to run, whoever he was). The momentum is clearly in the Romney camp, if you can't see that, then I don't know what to say

I and everyone I know would rather drink with Romney, would rather have Romney as their boss and would much rather have their tax $$s managed by Romney

Your right, I don't see it. Then again, I don't have a dog in the fight.

I'm looking at it objectively. You have your Romney glasses on.

Romney, he would be more likely to pick up the tab. Obama, I'd have to keep one hand on my wallet all night. :)

Really, there in nothing in common between myself and BO. Not that there is much between myself and MR but I do think he would be much more interesting conversation.

Lol. Fair enough.

In the eyes of the average voter, Obama would win that contest. Sadly, the answer to such a question like that is more important than policy differences.

and W would have beat Obama. Not sure we want a night on the town to decide our country's leader :)

And the Ryan plan doesn't? Pot meet kettle.

His plan does not affect anyone over 55. But everyone especially in the media and in this regime keep trying to hammer Ryan over this when they are doing to the same thing, maybe even more aggressive

That's a tough one.

To me, in the eyes of the average voter:

Obama > Romney

Obama > McCain (Although I personally would rather have a beer with a POW vet)

Bush >>>> Kerry

Bush > Gore

Bubba >>>>> Dole

Bubba > Bush I

And I agree, it is a terrible way to elect a president. However, I believe it is much more prevalent than you could ever imagine.

It depends on which budget proposal we are talking about. He has presented a few of them, all with their own nuances.

Team Obama will cheerypick from all of those.

unfortunately I realize it all too well

The polls show that Ryan had about 50% name recognition nationally.
That shows the amount of attention the average US citizen is paying to Washington.
With his roll in the House and his budget proposals, he should have a much higher name recognition.
Our leaders are sadly elected by a few soundbites that voters base their decision on.
