Ronald Powell and Dominique Easley threaten to transfer from Florida

only a dummy could look at meyer's record since he got to the SEC and say he's not elite

or the SEC has been weak? thats not true either 3 different teams have won the last 4 titles :eek:lol:

In order for Meyer to be considered an elite coach AND have a great season, he must somehow win a national title somewhere other than Florida (preferably a school of rjd's choosing) while at the same time be a decided underdog in the majority of his games.

Now that we have all that settled, I would ask the mods to go ahead and lock down this thread.

What has he accomplished without Mullen?

So now you're arguing an undefeated season shouldn't be considered a great year?

What should it be considered?

And no one argued otherwise, but thanks for bringing it up. Recently I've been reminded of this point every year around the third Saturday of September.

My understanding is as follows.

All of the unbiased coaching judges on this board base their unfounded arguments on the idea that if Coach Meyer's team wins then that opponent isn't/wasn't any good.

If Coach Meyer's team lost one or two games, then his teams had an easy schedule or got lucky that season and won conference or national championships due to the incompetence and bad luck of every other BCS team.

With that logic, the vols should have disbanded their football program years ago because they never had a chance and never will.

What has he accomplished without some combination of Mullen, Tebow, and Strong?

Hell, throw in Jesus Christ and the Easter Bunny while you're at it.....it won't make the answer to your question any less measurable, seeing as how this is Meyer's first season without Tebow or Strong.

You: Meyer is winless without Tebow or Strong....clearly he's accomplished NOTHING!!!

Any coach can win games if his team scores more points than the opponent !

What's so impressive about that ?

All programs should have only one coach and then be assigned players by the league based on fairness.

Then and only then, we'll see who is really a quality coach.

All of this hard work hiring assistants and recruiting players only clouds the picture.

For me the jury is still out on Meyer. He has always had Mullen except for last year when he had Tebow. He has neither. Will it be another Cutcliffe/Fulmer type relationship? Time will tell.

Just like time will tell if Saban becomes to Meyer what Spurrier of the 90's was to Fulmer.

But if it helps you sleep at night keep on believing that Meyer is the greatest thing in College coaching. Saban/Bama just had a fluke year. And that Florida State, Miami, and Tennessee will always be horrible.

It's like you don't want to understand what I'm saying on purpose. At no point throughout this thread have I proclaimed that Meyer is the "greatest thing" or "God's gift". That's you and others putting words in my mouth.

And at no point have I taken a swipe at FSU or Miami in this entire discussion. :)

I simply said Meyer is among the elite active CFB coaches out there. Based on his track record at Bowling Green, Utah and Florida, there's simply no disputing this.

 wow i dont see anybody saying that

its you thinking meyer is a fluke

What do Fulmer or Cutcliffe have to do with Meyer's resume today?

Fulmer was successful as long as he had Cutcliffe as his OC. Not so much without.

Meyer has been successful as long as he has had Mullen as his OC. Time will tell how he does without.

How else would you explain the man winning everywhere he's coached?

He has never coached anywhere without Mullen.

Florida Average Offense points per game
2007 – 42.5
2008 – 43.6
2009 – 35.9 (I am sure that this is just a coincidence)

And of course the Defense will not miss a beat without Strong.

Same was being said about Fulmer in the 90's.

And in the 90s ,Phil Fulmer was among the elite active CFB coaches in the country.

It's like you're waiting patiently for Meyer to fall off sometime in the future before proclaiming him to be some sort of fraud.

Until that time comes, Urban Meyer is among the elite active coaches in college football today. Period.

Translation: Hopefully in a few years or so I'll be right.

Translation: I really hope my theory holds water in the coming years, in spite of UF pulling ridiculous amounts of talent on the recruiting trail.

I applaud your efforts to discredit Urban Meyer's coaching accomplishments, in spite of Urban Meyer's coaching accomplishments.

Big freaking whoopdy do. Same was said of Coker at 1 time.
