Rumor out of Columbia Muschamp is out [Confirmed]

Don’t want this jackass anywhere near our program. Screw him
Not saying Muschamp would or wouldn't be a good hire, but you don't hire people for their glowing personality, you hire them because they get the job done.

Muschamp is not HC material, but he is a respected DC... Which ironically sounds familiar..

Great question and a valid point on Butch’s contract.
My take is, (1) we have an Athletics Dept. that spends money like a teenager’s first paycheck. Our money is allocated/gone as soon as it comes in.
(2) Latest figures I can find, we have only $11M (ish) in reserves (probs lt less by now), and that’s higher than we’ve had many times over the last 10 years. (3) We are estimated to operate at a 40M deficit this year. (4) Thanks to Fulmer, we owe Pruitt the full $13M, no mitigation. (5) This will be the 3rd time in 8 years we’ve gone to mega-boosters asking for a mega-bailout. Late 2020 is a bad time to ask for money, no matter how rich the donor.

I guess that’s a long way of saying, SC probably manages their money and their coaches contracts better than us.
Though I don't agree with a lot of the accounting questions or assertions raised about buyouts in this thread, actually 2020 us the perfect year to ask for donations as they are 100% deductible on taxes this year.

It’s as if South Carolina didn’t remember going 3-1 against Muschamp’s UF teams before hiring him, or UF firing Muschamp right after losing in overtime to...checks notes...South Carolina.
It's always a good idea to hire a coach that lost to your last coach. Signed Butch Jones.

Why does it seem that our "bargain hires" end up costing us Saban-like money?

Yup...it's vexing. One way to look at it is akin to the purchase of a ragged-out beater of a car because it's "cheap" instead of shelling out a bit more on a newer, more reliable one...the "cheap" option doesn't always end up being cheaper when it falls apart (or at least needs major work, like replacing assistants) after a few years.

Looks like Pruitt will lose to another first year head coach with less talent. It's comical at this point.
I think UT sucking is starting to get the best of you. You may need to take a break for a bit..

Like the UT 'shortfall' number, the CJP buyout number is another one thats seems to go up every time I see it posted... 🤷‍♂️
Pruitts buyout is around $13M and it would cost is approximately $6M to but out his staff. That’s the number that I’ve heard several times.
GBO!!

South Carolina will always have to do a lot of recruiting out of state, just like Tennessee does and Clemson do. South Carolina will probably do what Tennessee will do next year, or the year after. Hire someone off the bargain rack.
We seem to spend a lot of real money on that rack.

If true, Pruitt should hire him as DC. Then, Pruitt should fire the entire offensive staff except Chaney.

Not saying you're incorrect, it just seems the numbers seem to vary the more they are discussed..

I wonder what USCjr's 'total' buyout comes to, it has to be more then 13M...

Steve Spurrier ruined South Carolina. Three consecutive 11-win seasons, gave them their one and only sniff of an SEC championship game, had them in the National conversation most seasons, produced great players like Clowney, Lattimore, Stephon Gilmore, Alshon Jeffrey, Jared Cook, Sidney Rice, and others. Now, the SC fan base thinks they should have this annually. They think they should win 11 games every year, have rosters full of NFL dudes, get back to the SECCG game, etc. Aint gonna happen. It took a generationally good coach to give them their best years ever. Unless they find another Spurrier, it’s over for them.
