Rush Limbaugh has passed

Regardless of what you think about him, if he was a progressive voice, I don't think this CNBC article would have described him as "incendiary."

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/02/17/rus...aimed-doctor-of-democracy-dies-at-age-70.html

I mean...the guy was incendiary, but if he espoused stuff that people in the media agreed with, they wouldn't have described him that way.
You're trying to hold a class of people that describe a murdering, child-abusing, cult-leading extremist as an "austere religious scholar" to a standard above dirt. It ain't gonna work.

I would listen to him on my lunch breaks in my car...big influence on my life
My first memories of him were when I would work with my stepdad during the summer, he was a plumber then and always had Rush on in his truck. The first ones I remember is when he would go after the Clintons especially Hillary on her version of universal healthcare.

Also it’s amazing how he stayed on the air right up until the end. Rush was the best, will certainly be missed.

It'd be disingenuous if you acted differently . . . tomorrow. Hours after someone dies, it's hard to offer up a negative opinion without it just being a bad look.
I tried for what I felt was the proper balance.

'He did his job well. It's just a job for which I have zero respect.
But he did put Snapple on the map.'

There is a death bastard continuum wherein you are allowed to be a bastard provided your disdain for the the person who died is at an appropriate position on the other continuum. For further questions related to continuums please consult the manual.
Underrated post
I bet 87.624 percent of VN PFers agree (Loofus math, btw).
On topic, I haven't listened to his show since the early 90s, always saw him primarily as an entertainer. He was very good at what he did and came from humble origins to reach success, as GAVol said.
RIP, Rush.

Nice post. That I've seen posts with, "he was a huge influence on my life", and,"I learned so much from him" has me SMH. He was a barking clown

Now that I think about it, the popularity of Limbaugh should have been an indication that the Republican Party could end up with somebody like Trump as its leader.

Rush was an anti-PC bomb-thrower with lots of bugaboos in his personal life from the perspective of conservatives (married 4 times, prescription drug problems). He understood that politics was downstream from culture, and was an entertainer first and foremost.

RE: McNabb

McNabb was really good*. Limbaugh was hired to be a football analyst. Denigrating a player without making an actual case about the player, and then recklessly attributing a racially-charged ulterior motive to the media is not football analysis. I bet a good portion of you who didn't have a problem with Limbaugh's comments were butthurt about what the Pistons said about Larry Bird. I don't think either of these comments belong in sports.

*When Limbaugh said this, he had put up big numbers and gone to B2B NFCCG with Todd Pinkston as his best WR. Then he went to 2 more NFCCG's and had a monster year and SB appearance when he finally got a good WR. Rush was wrong.

What did the Pistons say about Bird?
