Rush Limbaugh has passed

I am remembering other things about Rush.

He brought to light more than anyone the bias in the mainstream press and the collusion of thought they offered.

His montages of "Gravitas" when Bush 2 was running as an example.

I think the Journ-O-List "scandal" came to light partially because of Rush.

Thanks for the info that everyone already knows. Now go back and read the post I commented on. He clearly did not know of which he commented.

Remember when he called the college girl a prostitute (whore?) for wanting birth control - that was another admirable moment.

You know, the right wing social media right acted pretty shtty when McCain croaked, worse with John Lewis and worse still with RBG. The feigned outrage over the twitter-verse "classless" left isnt going to get any traction.

The pearl clutching over social media haterz is ironic, if nothing else.
I’m sure it’s just the same. “Rest in piss” and “rot in hell” trending on twitter, that to me deserves the term classless. But if people want to out themselves as that kind of person on a platform like Twitter that’s their prerogative . It’s not like anyone is expecting any kind of traction from this. Most smart people are aware of the hypocrisy that is attached to things like this.

The bigger picture is this: in a meritocracy, like the NFL, propping someone up for any reasons other than their performance and ability to win is dishonest. It's political. Choosing to extol the virtues of any athlete because of their skin color isn't needed.
.....Except that didn't happen. McNabb was a really good QB, took his team to 4 straight NFC Championships and a Super Bowl. I can't remember exactly when Rush made those comments, but I'd imagine it was somewhere in that timeframe.

The belief that black people who are really good at what they do only receive praise because they're black is one of the most racist beliefs there are. Anytime a person of color accomplishes anything the racist right passes it off as "they're only saying it because he's black." I guess it's impossible for them, and clearly you, to believe black people actually do earn the praise they receive. Rush spouted that garbage, which isn't really surprising considering the complete human wastebasket he was. He should've never been in a position to say that (iirc he said it on Monday Night Football not his radio show, why who knows).

The Sandra Fluke thing was the epitome of Rush. By calling her a slut, he alienated a lot of people who agreed with him, or otherwise would have been inclined to agree with him, about opposition to Obamacare. He made it really easy for any opposition to Obamacare to be labeled as "sexist" or something similar, which was unfortunate.

Rush was an entertainer first and foremost that catered to his audience, which was made up of incredibly loyal fans who liked hearing that kind of stuff.

I don't agree with much of his politics or many of his comments but he definately made an impact on the world.

I tend to agree with those thoughts where politicians are concerned. Thus the reason I typically avoid those threads.

The difference to me is private citizens and entertainers are powerless to impact my life and liberty while politicians are. So, my vitriol is about the person who held power over me.

You can stop. We all already know you never listened to the man, just what the people that hated him wrote about him. Copy and Paste is not helping you.

Everyone agreed McNabb was good. But he wasn't the best of that period. I also don't think he is one of the best to ever play the position.

Besides, that dude almost beat UT in 98.

That was when they were all parroting the same talking points that Bush was an idiot and John Kerry had gravitas. The sad thing is here we are 16 or 17 years later and the media still all have the exact same left wing talking points like that every single day.

And isn't funny how they hated Bush and constantly called him an idiot but now that he's a Trump hater all of a sudden they love the guy. The left is so shallow and has no shame at all.

I've never been a big "talking heads" guy. There's just something about the format I find irksome so I ran across Rush only in a "here and there" way. I did appreciate that he was apparently always very forthcoming about his stance...he was a Right guy and it was his purpose to be the voice of things you didn't hear from the "drive by media". He succeeded in this role. Whatever vitriol those that disagreed with his take/content may trot out that remains true.

His syndicated tv show began my first semester at UT in September of 1992 during the height of the campaign between Clinton/Bush 1/Perot. I would always have the show on while getting ready for my first class. He was funny as hell... especially when going after Hillary. He would also do things you weren't supposed to do - like make fun of Chelsea Clinton's looks (she was 12 at the time). His influence is all over cable news and the Republican Party - good and bad. He was as responsible as anyone for bringing conspiracy theories to the mainstream. He talked about the Vince Foster suicide for several years... he never really did ever let it go. Whether you liked him or not, there is no questioning his influence.
