I think the whole Russian association with Communism is what he means. And sure Bernie refers to himself as Socialist, but that's just watered down CommunismDid Bernie ever say he wanted to adopt any country's system? I must have missed that. Would you be so kind as to direct me to that information?
But it's not, though. Key differences include:I think the whole Russian association with Communism is what he means. And sure Bernie refers to himself as Socialist, but that's just watered down Communism
To me it's always been the ownership of property that is the defining difference between the two systems. I don't think Communism as we've witnessed is exactly set stone in terms of details such as freedom of religion and how the classes behave. There's a pretty wide variance in regards to those two things over the lifespan of Communist Russia. I also wouldn't say that the Socialist Nazis allowed for freedom of religion either. My point being not that your wrong, but that aside from the ownership of property. That depending on the regime that the systems can be very similar. I suppose you could argue that we've never seen true Communism as layed out by Marx, ( it was Marx wasn't it?) But I don't think that's the point you are trying to make. But it's not, though. Key differences include:
There are similarities between the two, but these distinct differences are significant and important to understand. For the last 100 plus years, the United States has been a mixture of capitalism and socialism. Both parties agree that this mixture must exist, it's just a question over the percentages of both.
- Under communism, all economic resources are publicly owned and controlled by the government, which is not necessarily comprised of people who were elected to their positions of leadership. Individuals hold no personal property or assets. Under socialism, individuals own personal property, but all industrial and production capacity is communally owned and managed by a democratically elected government.
- Under communism, production is intended to meet all basic human needs and is distributed to the people at no charge. Under socialism, production is intended to meet individual and societal needs and distributed according to individual ability and contribution.
- Under communism, the class system is abolished and the ability to earn more than other workers is almost nonexistent. Under socialism, classes exist but differences are diminished. It is possible for some people to earn more than others.
- Under communism, religion is abolished. Under socialism, freedom of religion is allowed.
I was talking about other republicans in the 2016 primaries and other republicans today. The conduct is and can be less than dignified. None of the current Democratic canidates would come anywhere close to the policies that he's either supported or led. Or at least their public positions do not indicate that
