Russia Blocks Kerch Strait

And they’ve had protection...until a coup was orchestrated to swap leadership from pro-Russia to pro-west...

Serious question.....what would Russia have to gain by harassing Ukrainian ships in international waters(if that was the case) and arresting the crew?!

1. a distraction. putin does it just as much as we do.
2. part of Putin's strategy of taking little bites not big enough to draw international intervention
3. with the Russians occupying the Donbas region the last major economic driver in that part of Eastern Ukraine is the Sea Azov. this is another choke down on the economy.
3.b Mauripol has always been a target of the Russians. back when they were pushing with the rebels. they want their land bridge. which would cut Ukraine off.

seriously its been how many years since Russia seized Crimea and gained that choke point? 4 years? and you are telling me this is the first "procedure" error that happened? and the best/only response was to open fire and seize a ship and crew? plus they still haven't opened the lane back up for normal travel. If this was all one big mistake why is Russia playing its hand so strong? seems like they would be willing to resume normal operations pretty fast and wouldn't require interrogating crews back in Moscow

Yeah, i bet Putin would have invaded of they decided to keep 10% of those warheads...

Nobody invades a nuclear nation. Period. Just like open carry folks dont get assaulted. Power demands respect.

Ukranian positions currently being shelled by what is assumed to be Russian backed forces near Mariupol

Saw reports of that earlier but was waiting for confirmation. Is it just regular shelling the contact line has or something more sinister?

Distraction? Micro-steps?

The people of the Donbas region asked the RF for a referendum to join Russia...it was denied by Putin...

If this was a Russian invasion and they really wanted Mariupol, it was there for the taking just three years ago...why stop short?!

Because that would have been a big step. the miners didn't have much use for a port.

Shelling usually takes place in the Donbas area. Shelling in the Mariupol is doesn't happen much.

Because the Russians have reason to believe that orders came straight from the top...not just some oops lack of judgement...
It's not like these were warships. It doesn't warrant the response that Russia has shown. It's bullying and that's it.

You really think they were a serious threat to mother Russia? It's bullying.

Like I said...that’s your opinion...

You won’t change mine...

Not about being a threat. They broke the rules intentionally it seems...to anyone doing their homework on the subject...
