Russia Blocks Kerch Strait

Like I said...that’s your opinion...

You won’t change mine...

Not about being a threat. They broke the rules intentionally it seems...to anyone doing their homework on the subject...
Ships stray in protected waters all the time. It's not whether it was within Russia's rights to do it, it's whether or not they should do it. It's a case of the biggest bully on the block exercising it's might on an inferior opponent.

What’s their motive?! What does it accomplish when they are already the most demonized and sanctioned country on the globe?!

Lol, why do they do half the stuff they do? I personally think they're (Putin) are on a mission to slowly reclaim as much of the former Soviet block as they can.

Bit of history: a strait showdown in 2003

December 8, 2003

Ukraine and Russia had ongoing talks to delimit the Azov Sea as well as the Kerch Strait. Russia’s position was that the two bodies of water remain commonly held without a specifically drawn border, while Ukraine demanded that the two sides agree on a boundary in accordance with international standards.

Half the stuff they do?! Like protect their sphere of influence, just like we do? Just like China does?

You do understand that everything MSM puts out, is going to cast the worst light possible on Russia, regardless of claims or facts?

Do you just blindly believe that Russia is a country made up of backwards villians...and that everyone else, especially us, is superior...or has better intentions?!

I get it though. I understand most all Americans have been indoctrinated to hate all things Russia...no matter what...

This would be like the U.S. sending a few battleships into the St. Lawrence Seaway and saying, "Sorry Canadian ships. You're not getting through here until we say so."

If Canada’s democratically elected president had been ran out of office 4 years ago by a Russian financed and orchestrated coup, you’d have a point...

But, you don’t...

That wouldn't change Canada's shipping rights unless a new agreement had been implemented.

Ukraine had/has shipping rights in the Sea of Azov via the Kerch Strait, but when traveling through the territorial waters of another country....proper protocol must be used...which was used by many Ukrainian ships up until this incident...

Lol. I don't watch msn, fix, cnn or any news for that matter, too agenda driven.

I love this "sphere of influence" stuff. A few years ago was it Iran's right to capture one of our vessels in the Persian gulf? We were in their sphere of influence.

Please don't paint me in a box, you know nothing about me or how I form my opinions. You have the right to your opinion as do I. I don't hate Russia, I do business with a Russian right now. I don't trust Putin though as many of his countrymen don't either.

I dont see the Russians as evil, or even the biggest threat to US interests, thats china. Hands down, not close. I would like to go there on vacation along with the rest of europe. Honestly, American guys who dont do too well with the ladies should look online for hot chicks from the former USSR countries like Ukraine, there are many thousands of hot chicks over there who would marry them and come here...

That doesnt change the fact that Russia is surely committing micro invasions and steadily grabbing up land and resources in Ukraine, Georgia, and anywhere else they choose. Never enough to warrant WW3...but invasions none the less. Like Louder said, nibble, nibble goes the big bear. The Russians feared having nukes right outside their border like we had in Cuba, so WE THE US paid billions to get them removed from Ukraine and supposedly destroyed in Russia...then a decade later Russia attacks abd seizes a big chunk of Ukraine...now that the nukes are gone. All while lying to the world saying they werent supplying the rebels. There are STILL 1500 russian tanks on Ukraine soil...which is likely enough firepower to take Kiev itself, especially when the Russians have air superiority.

No excuse for this belligerence. None. Russia is like a schoolyard bully. To defend their actions is pathetic for an American

Nearly half of Russians don’t like Trump – poll

Russians have greatly changed their opinion of US President Donald Trump over the past year, with nearly a half of them now thinking negatively of him, Russian sociologists have found.

According to the latest research conducted by the Public Opinion Foundation (FOM), 46 percent of Russian citizens have expressed a negative opinion of the US leader. The findings are based on interviews with 1,500 Russian citizens, conducted across the country late in November.

The fresh figures record nearly a twofold growth compared to the FOM’s poll conducted last June, when only 25 percent of respondents viewed Trump negatively. 13 percent of the respondents have expressed a positive opinion of the US leader, while 41 percent were indifferent. Favorable views of Trump among Russians tanked twofold as well; last year 24 percent of Russians thought well of him.

The general attitude to the US as a whole has gone downward as well over the past year, the FOM study indicates. Only 11 percent of respondents viewed the country in a positive light, while a half of them are indifferent. Nearly 70 percent of Russians believe that, overall, the US plays a bad role in the modern world, while only seven percent think the opposite.

If it was within their territorial waters...of course they do.

It’s not like these are fishing boats getting off course. These are military vessels...with all the necessary equipment to understand the exact coordinates of their operations...

Do you defend all of our actions?!

That’s equally pathetic...

Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Ukraine on cooperation in the use of the sea of Azov and the strait of Kerch

4) Mercantile vessels and other state non-commercial vessels flying the flags of the Russian Federation and the Ukraine have free navigation in the sea of Azov and the strait of Kerch

You know you keep up this “territorial water” BS like it’s factual. It isn’t. Prior to Russia illegally occupying and annexing Crimea both countries agreed to dual rights on the Kerch Straight as well as the Sea of Azov. That link was provided earlier in this thread.

After the illegal annexation they have now claimed “territorial waters” under the damn bridge they built that is the ONLY damn way into the Sea of Azov. Plain and simple.

It is illegal annexation and their territorial waters claims are not recognized by anybody but themselves.

So what you're saying is that the big bad Ukrainian gunboat stepped across this little line and hurt little Putin's feelers?
