Montgomery
Player rank (position rank): 27 (2)
Considering: Michigan, LSU, North Carolina, South Carolina and Clemson.
Front-runner: It's really tough to count out any of Montgomery's five finalists. As of last week, he had LSU as his leader. A recent staff shake-up in Baton Rogue might have changed that. Montgomery also was high on Michigan after a recent visit. North Carolina has closed strong the past few recruiting seasons; perhaps Butch Davis could add Montgomery to his 2009 haul.
Scouts Inc. says: Montgomery has loads of potential and ability. He entered high school focusing on basketball and claims it is still his passion, but he realizes the potential he has on the gridiron is much greater. He went out for football as a junior, and his assimilation to the game is jaw-dropping.

here's espn for you

"Tennessee is very high up," Montgomery said. "I'm really interested to see what they have been telling me. I cannot wait to get up there for my visit. I'm really looking forward to it. Getting to know coach (Lane) Kiffin, coach Orgeron, coach Monte Kiffin and the players is something I can't wait to do."

Quote from Rivals article today.

His mom talked very highly of Reaves too.

I remember reading the quote from him. Where did you see or hear about his mom speaking highly of Reaves?

Smokey it was posted by "gwood eagle" on the previous page.

Montgomery and his family had a day full of visits on Thursday. LSU, Clemson, and Tenn all came to his home.
His mother already knew the rumors about Lane leaving via the internet and other "sources" but Lane did man up and stated the obvious himself while introducing Haley as his replacement.
Clemson came with their big guns also, their head coach and new hire Steele, both as well as Rumph were impressive.
Last but not least came Tenn, Kiffin and O. Montgomery knew nothing of either of them as he knew none of the other coaches until he met them. Both left an impression, but his mother did say Coach Reeves had singlehandly put Tenn on their list and had "sniped" some of the other teams ahead of them.
At the end of the day............. LSU/Tenn were on the top, but officials will make or break them and the instates will get one last unofficial during the week.
No, I'm not Sam but I am in the camp. I'll be one of the guys in the back of the picture on NSD:hi:

"It was a great visit when he stopped by to see me," Montgomery said of Lane Kiffin. "He wants to get me down there and start training me. He is a man on a mission to take over an SEC school. He is getting the right recruits to do it. He is looking for the best and that they will have to work and I can respect that. I like that."

Kiffin's in-home visit with Montgomery lasted a couple of hours. Not only has Montgomery taken a liking to Kiffin and assistant David Reeves, but so has his mother Debra Montgomery.

"My mom likes everybody from Tennessee," Montgomery said. "When coach Fulmer was there Tennessee wasn't really recruiting me. Since coach Reeves got to Tennessee he has been recruiting me hard. My mom really likes him."

"To be quite frank, I didn't know much," Debra Montgomery said. "(Kiffin) was an impressive man. I enjoyed the vision about him coming to Tennessee and what his intentions were. He was to the point and a no nonsense kind of guy. He has a vision of where Tennessee is and where he wants it to be."

While she likes Kiffin's vision, she made it a point to give her opinion on Reeves. She says that her son has developed a nice relationship with the former South Carolina assistant.

"The thing that has impressed me most about Tennessee is coach Reeves," Debra Montgomery said. "He is a go getter. He went after Sam because he liked what he saw in Sam. Tennessee wasn't on the radar for us and he made a big impression. Sam took some teams off the list that were on there and put Tennessee on the list."

Front page headline article on Volquest.... According to the article, Sam and Mom are very very impressed with Kiffin and Reaves! She also mentions that UT was not on their radar BUT after meeting with our coaches they eliminated other schools to make room for UT. They are both very excited about his upcoming visit on the 30th!!

Sorry, I can't keep up with Rex! :)

I think we are even with LSU now and may have already passed them......by the way the article sounds, Im very confident now about the kid.

sounds great...I'm gonna hold my breath until we sign this kid...don't worry I've surrounded myself with pillows and blankets.

The problem is Montgomery says the same things about every School that has come visit him. It's like he wakes up and is leaning toward the last school that visited him.
