volunteer04, I see your point and respect you opinion but Fulmer isn't going anywhere. The sooner you can accept that and move on with life, the better.

I would like to know who you Fulmer haters think would do a better job than him?  I don't know anyone that would give as much effort to the VOLS as Fulmer has.

The Vols were overrated to begin with. Now that things aren't going the way that was expected, people want the coaches fired.  The problem isn't mainly with the coaches, it's the stuff that happened away from the field, the QB situation, the numerous incomplete passes, the drop balls, the fumbles, etc. etc. etc......it's a mixture of all of those things.

I don't care who you put as head coach for the VOLS right now, if the players keep throwing incomplete passes, drop balls, make fumbles, etc., they aren't going to be a top 25 team.

This is exactly what the spoiled VOL fans needed, a bad season to knock them off of their high horse.  You expect way too much from them every single year.

We really don't hate Fulmer. We want what is best for the Program. We need a new HC that will open up the offense. We rank below 100 in most all offensive catagories. We don't know if our WR's are any good this year because we don't throw to them often enough or deep enough.
Your post above mentions fumbles, dropped passes, mistakes etc (false starts) and those are fundamentals that are not being taught by the coaches well enough that they are learned by the offensive players. Game 7 was the first time we did not block in the back during a punt or kickoff. We have the worst special teams in school history. This is over a 100 million business we are in and it is broke and we need an AD with balls big enough to fix it.
We are all tired of hearing the word "effort" come out of Phil's mouth. It is time for results.

Ok OWB what if there are only 70,000 or 80,000 fans at the Memphis game. Money lost will open more eyes in my opinion. It should go further than Sanders. U know i will be suprised if theres that many there.

Well, you all might be right. People might now show up and that's fine with me. I'll be there. Hopefully I'll have some leg room in front of me. To me, it's about more than just winning and losing. Don't get me wrong, I love it when we win but it's not the end of the world if we don't. I enjoy going to Knoxville and watching the Vols play. Even in the down years.

Amen bleeding. Tommy West HC of Memphis will bring his Tigers into Neyland thinking they have a legitimate chance to win because they do. He played at UT in the 70's when I was there and was a graduate assistant coach there under Bill Battle. He might deserve a look if he beats Fulmer in his own back yard. What do you think?

I know it wasn't, but it is. The university is making changes because of it. Give it time, see who they get and see how it goes before calling for Fulmer's head.

I'm just as disappointed as the next person, but we need to support our coach and our team through all of this. That's just my opinion though.

Why is that? When they grow are they going to be so big that they take up all my leg room in the stadium?

Well OWB i have always supported our team and always will. U know by looking at my posts through the season and even before the season that i was very critical of our head coach. This team is so undisciplined and it all goes back to him and only him. He has got to understand that its time to change his way of coaching or he will be next. 04 i dont know who would be our next coach, but i do know this if u dont teach discipline on and off the field u are not much of a coach in my opinion which really doesnt mean much.

Because Fulmer has lost the discipline of his players.  He has assigned that to someone else also.  He has someone else to blame for everything.  It is Fulmer's ship and it has sunk.  He should be a man and take the blame.  It is time for a change, just like it was in 1992.  Wake up!

Majors was not fired in 1992 for the team going 9-3.... he was fired when he gave the school a more appropriate public reason.... they were looking for a reason to fire Majors after making racial comments towards players in the locker room during the Fiesta Bowl (against Penn State).

Even Tennessee would not fire a coach one year removed from 10 wins.

And to say that the ship is sunk.... you are a quitter... I will be pulling for the Vols the remainder of the season because they can still win 8 games.

If after what has happened to the Vols so far this season, they finish with 8 wins, including wins over a top 10 LSU and Notre Dame and bowl win... I will praise Fulmer for righting the ship.

I am a REAL Vol fan. I pull for them through thick or thin. I was there for the 5-6 season in 1988 just like I was there for the 13-0 season in 1998. I DO NOT JUMP SHIP MIDSEASON LIKE APPARENTLY SOME OF YOU ARE. There is still the possibility of finishing 8-4 with wins over 2 top 10 teams and bowl win. If you don't think so, then you are delusional!

To give you a little perspective. I went with my dad to watch the vols play in the late 70's. We had an extra ticket we couldn't sell for $2.00.

The team we were playing? Pittsburgh. The quarterback? Dan Marino...........

AllVol,

I respect your positive attitude and enthusiasm. However, I am curious as to why you give Fulmer credit for righting a ship that he personally steared so far off course? In a sense, that is true; because football is not a game of perfect, and none of us are either.

Granted, getting this team to 8-4 would be better than any of the other alternatives. But I am more concerned with the systematic, institutional problems that caused us to get to the point of praising someone that makes a championship salary for finishing 4th in the SEC East. There are an awful lot of coaches out there who could have done that.

Fulmer's delusional arrogance is what rubs me the wrong way. And when his teams play poorly, he does what any delusionally arrogant person does: He blames his players.

But, after that diatribe, I still pull for the chap.
