Santi returning!!!

Doubt it and now that Santi is back, I now want Knect even more. He would bring a 3 ball threat to help defenses honest and from focusing so much on Vescovi.
I’m hopeful Gainey can provide that, not that I don’t want Knecht but I do worry a bit about the 4 position if we were to just land Knecht.

🙄 Good grief dude. Getting a two time first team all conference player back is nothing short of terrific news.

Hes a spot up shooter that plays good defense. He won't make this team worse by any stretch, but he isn't going to get us over the hump. Maybe we regress at the position without him, but I'm just ready to give someone else a shot to bring something new.

I think you're really underselling his ability to get a shot off of screens, movement shooters like that aren't easy to find. Also, I think you're really underselling his defense. Losing Santi would be a massive dropoff in the backcourt.

I think Santi returning and adding Gainey gives Freddie and Carr a bit less pressure in their first season on the court here.

You'll have 4 guards that can play the 1-3 role with some experience in Mashack, Santi, Gainey and ZZ and then you'll have 3 young guards with limited experience in BJ, Freddie and Carr then you add in a hybrid that we're not real sure where he'll fit in yet with DJ. Lots of interesting lineups for next season, and depending on how good the 3 incoming guys staff hasn't worked with yet are it could be a lot of fun.

I think adding a scoring 3/4 with some good size is a must and based on the visits from Knecht and Ledlum that seems to be something the staff is trying to address.

He does play good defense, and he brings experience and leadership. He's an above average shooter as well. I'm not trying to under sell his strengths, but no one seems to want to discuss his limitations. He doesn't have great size or elite speed, so while he does plays sound defense, he still can't keep up with faster, more athletic guards and he can't guard multiple positions. He also doesn't have the size, speed, handles, or athleticism to create shots or drive the ball. His shot selection is all over the map at times, often at the end of close games, and he is a streaky shooter. His numbers are good overall, but its feast or famine.

He overcomes some of these limitations because of hard work and determination, but the limitations are still there. He doesn't make this team worse, but he isn't the guy who is going to make or break this program. Someone on the bench may bring something new to the table, and I'm just ready to see what those guys have.

I agree exactly….That was my point to a friend who kinda wanted to replace SV…I ask him..”are you so stupid to think we could recruit or sign ANYONE ,especially at this point, with more experience, leadership, dedication, shooting acumen, etc etc than SV”? His response…”naw I guess not”! Come on people…THINK and stop the emotionalism.

I’m certainly not disappointed Santi’s returning but I’m not overwhelmed with excitement either.

With the advent of NIL, some kids like Vescovi would be just as well off to play college instead of playing in the G-league or overseas in Europe. Vescovi can also do graduate studies at UT.
Exactly, and with the love that he gets from the home fans he's gotta get a boost from it

To me it seems that the only people who aren’t really excited that SV will be back are the usual suspects who are almost never happy.

Be careful what you ask for when you ask for something new. If this were Olivier, Uros, or JJJ we were talking about, I would actually agree with you.

In the case of SV, though, it is almost a certainty that we would regress at the position without him. He’s been one of the best perimeter players in the SEC two years in a row. He isn’t the reason this past year’s team didn’t get over the hump.

Ideally I don’t think Barnes wants to play Awaka at the 4
Do you think Aidoo could play the 4 some offensively? Had a decent 10-15 footer and did shoot the 3 ball some earlier in his career although it wasn't a very high rate. Could definitely improve upon that during the off season.

My hope is no…maybe I’m being too hopeful but my hope is we modernize our offense playing 1 big and really spreading the floor out, creating more space and tempo in the process.

I'm with you there, what would be the rotation in your ideal scenerio with this model? I guess we can't really speculate before we know who our starting 4 will be with the roster not set.

Yea, hard to say without knowing if we land none/one/both of Knecht & Ledlum.
