Santorum

Something I just learned:

The whole health insurance industry was created as an artificial side effect of government activity. We first saw health insurance as a "work benefit" during the Great Depression. The government capped wages, so the only way to attract better job candidates was to offer approved, non-monetary compensation. Thus the birth of employer-provided health insurance. 20 years later, we force HMOs on the market place. 30 years after that government is covering $.50 of every HC dollar spent. 10 years later we call it market failure. How f-ing stupid are we?
Sort of. Employer provided health insurance was created from caps during WWII. Health care paid for by a scheme other than fee for service came about 40-50 years before Nixon took office. They may have taken off, they may not have.

I'll save the health care debate for another thread.

HMOs are immoral and will burn in hell.
So you think corporations are people? :)

A-friggin-men. People are finding out the hard way that the devil is in these rules that get written after a bill is passed. The idea that a President can wave his hand like the Wizard of Oz and say "ok....insurance companies, you will now pay 100% for certain drugs" is completely preposterous.

The last part is what really shocks me - actually, the lack of reaction to it is what really shocks me.

The same is true for the bank settlement. Sure the banks deserved punishment for wrong doing but it's crazy that the POTUS can deem that the punishment be "you shall pay "x" to these people" (oh by the way, it will help me stay in power). Shouldn't this have gone through the courts?

There's hardly a peep in the press about these edicts involving private companies. Hardly a peep from the public either since these are "bad" industries.

Pretty frightening (the lack of attention).

Like you said, they're the bad guys so it's ok. Might as well start managing gas prices too and start running the oil companies too.

My biggest problem with Santorum is his view of libertarianism

IMO, the GOP needs to embrace more libertarian principles if they want to strengthen the party. Too many of these social issues that Santorum takes strong stances on are non-starters for many Americans. The real problem in this country right now isn't satan and birth control. It's our ****ing economy and budget!

I do think google needs to quit the BS and take down the top site in their search engine. that's just ridiculous.

I'm in SEO, so this stuff really interests me. If Google tampered with their results they'd lose credibility. They aren't going to just because some rich privileged white guy inspired an unfortunate internet meme. They have nothing to gain, and a lot to lose.

True

The only chance Santorum has of winning the presidency is if Satan manifests himself and endorses Obama before devouring some babies

Google could "improve" their algorithm

Also, I will add that Santorum is the perfect GOP candidate.

Expand the federal deficit by increasing government while also attacking anything that contridicts his personal idealogy. Brilliant.

I honestly think Santorum will get his ass handed to him in at least the popular vote, and very possibly the electoral college as well, if he gets the nod.

There are some parts of the GOP platform I genuinely like, but I don't know how appealing they think they can be with this sort of Pat Robertson crap.
