Jan 1, 1993...... why?
Because McCain (you know, the one that is most qualified in foreign policy) has referred to it as a country more than once during this campaign.
TPM Election Central | Talking Points Memo | McCain Again Refers To Czechoslovakia, A Non-Existent Country
This is on the same level of idiocy with the Obama states gaffe, except McCain did it twice.
how'd he do this past friday? did you weigh in on that one?
then why are more and more people in palin's own party skewering her for embarrassing moments in interviews such as this one?
and why hasn't anyone skewered Obama for this inhaler/breathalyzer gaffe? Here's what the conservative wsj had to say about it (pretty harsh, watch out):
Washington Wire - WSJ.com : Obama's Strategy to Pass Health Care: 'Whup Them'
Here's another highly unfair assessment of Palin's answer:
Couric strikes again - asks Palin impossible question | csmonitor.com

So I guess the guy running for President that touts his national security credentials gets a pass? Twice?
If I were to accept that McCain doesn't know the current status of that country I'd also have to accept that Obama is a Muslim. I don't believe either.
Don't you find it interesting that she can't come up with a better answer than this? If it doesn't matter, maybe she should've said that? Personally, I think it matters that our elected leaders do read a newspaper or magazine every once in awhile. Why didn't she just say TIME, Newsweek, or... PEOPLE?? She couldn't say anything. This woman is not too bright.
