Sarah Palin=Ronald Reagan

Just so you know I am a long time Republican who is just sick of the BS. She is just as much of a show as Obama is and its making me sick that the Republican party is doing the same crap.

I am fed up as well. I support McCain simply because he is the best option. I am beginning to hate everything politicians stand for these days, especially after this economic crisis and the pork added to the bailout. It is pathetic!

Gotta take care of the NASCAR track owners. :eek:hmy:

the gov't is not going to resolve this issue. The capital markets will ultimately resolve it.

Private industry isn't going to touch it until the money is there and some kind of framework in place. You're right though government starts it and private markets will finish it.

at $3.50 per gallon, the money is there I guarantee you.

Very few of our greatest discoveries / inventions have started with the government. Even defense technologies had to be privatized to become world class.

But thats my point, most were started by government in one form or another and then taken over by private industry. The problem right now is there isn't any one way of correcting our problem. Ethanol is viewed as a failure, Wind and Solar aren't adequate the only viable alternative currently is nuclear and that is solely government.

Some, but not all. Some of the greatest technology was discoverd through trial and error by our military in WWII, but I see your point. To be PROPERLY developed privatization had to occur.

which of our greatest discoveries started at the gov't?

It’s a sad state when we have to count on government to start something before the free market will take over. The better solution is for government to get out of the way and allow the free market to fix the problem.

what makes you think there's not something happening on this front.

The need has been articulated by some very bright folks very loudly over the past couple of years. Incubators and startup outfits are likely full of ideas and options. VC money is headed toward energy solutions in enormous piles. Universities are focusing money in seeking solutions. All of those options are much better than anything the gov't might even begin to try.

Nuclear power
Medicine
The implementation of the Internet
TV

hell, Velcro
Nuclear power wasn't discovered by our gov't. They funded the discoverers who migrated from Germany.
The greatest medical advances have all been private.
The internet might have merit, but it originated privately.
TV, I just don't know, but I struggle to call that a great innovation for our nation.

Not to mention the fact that she never said her running mate wasn't prepared/experienced enough to do the job. Like Joe did.

"Is it ok if I call you Joe?"

Nasa is probably one of the greatest platforms for most inventions since its inception.

they have been good, but they're hardly a good example of how the gov't would approach this.

by the way, I would assume we could come up with velcro a lot cheaper than NASA did.

Why not Nasa is also the biggest headache for losing money. Who else takes tons of money and then shares what they discover with the world before we can make a buck off of it.

True, but would you have thought about it?

I know that capital is flowing in to such companies. I don’t believe I stated anything to the contrary, and if I did it was unintentional. I just don’t agree with the assumption that government has to lead the way.

Oh, I misread your original post and I don't know how because you clearly said you aren't in favor of gov't intervention.

My bad.
