Awesome. I'm sure many other VN members can rest easy knowing Butch isn't going to the west coast.

Wait...Washington is open now?

Because the last Pete Carroll assistant worked out so well. Dude couldn't get more than 8 wins at Washington

I think Franklin would have been a much better pick.

I was sold on Sarkisian before the start of this season. But Washington looked completely outclassed several times this year. And I'm not sure bringing in another Pete Carroll assistant was the right move. Sometimes you have to change the culture from top to bottom.

USC: Washington's 247 Sports site reports Steve Sarkisian will take the USC head coaching job. CoachingSearch.com has not confirmed this. Scout.com's Lindsey Thiry reports there is a team meeting scheduled for this afternoon at UW.

It does look like a done deal.... good hire for USC.

The job EO has done I thought they might hire him.

Franklin would have been a better hire.

Sark isn't bad, but he's not of the quality that USC typically goes for.

Sarkisian is a good coach. I've watched washington play a few times this year and they are a well coached team. As for speculation switching to Franklin going to Washington now I think that actually makes much more sense than Franklin going to USC.

USC struck out badly since he got hired. A coach barely over 500 in the PAC 12. If it wasn't obvious before, UT isn't the only perennial powerhouse program that can't land "top tier" coaches.

All the pieces have to fall into place to get a guy with extreme luck to get a coach like Saban or Meyer

I'll believe it at the press conference.

The Coaching search of last year taught me to be leery of "insider sources."

Franklin may have no place to go. UF is keeping WM, USC job filled, just read that Wilcox is likely to be elevated to HC at Washington, Pellini may not get fired with those buyouts (although he did get the kiss of death when his AD said Pellini had his full confidence) and Texas is a coin toss if they get rid of Mack (not that Franklin would be in line for Texas but a school he would be good for would likely open up). This is a fun time of year when your school is not on the merry-go-round.
