But it ALL falls on play calling. It completely switched after first half. Players executed what was called. Literally a tale of 2 halves. So frustrating.
I dont usually go with just one thing as win or lose
But the 2nd 4th down call having all 11 players in the box when the whole offense is based on spacing to give you the advantage is mind boggling

Milton doesn't block nor do the other 2 backs
Plus the ball carrier
So you use 7 to block their 11 who are also crammed in the box?

Doesn't make sense on any level

Heupel is exactly what this fan base thought he would be. A bargain bin, last resort coach who is in over his head.

The atrocious effort against Florida this year, the implosion against a trash South Carolina team when we were a shoe-in for the playoff, and now this complete and utter second half collapse against our greatest rival tell me all I need to know.

Last year’s Alabama game and bowl win were Heupel’s high water mark. We will never win a conference or national championship with him at the helm. Mark it down.

You are a true turd, flush yourself down on down the river to Tuscaloosa and take hold there … Release this Turd of a fan - begone.

Overreact much?

Winning a NC is hard. How many active coaches have done that? 4? And one is Jimbo.

I’m frustrated as hell with this second half collapse but we are still more competitive than we have been since Fulmer’s heyday.

That's part of it for sure but this is just a strange, weird year. EVERY team has either had to come bk way from behind to an inferior opp or eek one out against inferior opp n that's the unbeatens left. Almost seems any team can rise up OR crash and burn to any other team this year. SMH

I agree. Kind of. Heupel runs an electric offensive system. But we play a quarterback that can’t put the team on his back and consistently make throws down the field. Bama game plan all along was too stuff our Ron and force Milton to beat them. They knew he wouldn’t be able to do it. He hit a few throws in the first half but missed a few as well including one for a touchdown. In the second half we stuck with the run way too frequently but that’s because they just don’t trust Milton to throw the ball. When we finally had to throw the ball late, Milton did what he always does… Couldn’t manage all the information on an important play and gave up a fumble for a touchdown.
I say it’s kind of all on Heupel because he’s the one that chose Milton even though most of the fanbase knew exactly how this season would turn out. If the guy doesn’t have it between the ears, he’s not going to all the sudden become really good with a little more work. He’s always been an average/below average quarterback with poor field awareness.

Our defense looked pretty bad second half. Joe Milton isn’t the worse qb we have had. I don’t think we will be better than 8-4 with him leading the offense. And that is only if we can somewhat keep a run game and consistency in defense. Either one of those fail and we could drop a couple more.

Nah, but his offense does require above average play at the receiver and QB positions in comparison to the competition, and we don't have it, and the coaching staff isn't developing it on the current roster.

Lol.

Sucks to get blown out the second half, but Saban does that all the time.

I think we got too conservative in the second half too, but Josh is the right coach. Milton was better than expected, but the defense couldn't hold them down.

If you didn’t have doubts about this staff being the answer, I don’t think you’d react this strongly. I was fully on board after last year. But when Heupel’s teams tank they tank HARD. I just have this feeling that the dark ages aren’t fully over and that’s why I think I get so upset.

I’m reacting strongly because you’re being a blatant idiot.

Alabama’s not a great team. Neither are the Vols. The biggest difference is that we don’t know how to win. Not really. Some flashes here and there, but last season got too many of our hopes up.

In fact, we still seem to have a bit of a loser mentality - always figuring out ways to wilt like pansies in the glare of the big stage. An inability to play well on the road in general. Bad play calling in crunch time. Crushing penalties and unforced errors in really bad spots, Take your pick. This team just isn’t remotely a contender in a year when the conference is largely “down.” Another opportunity flushed down the toilet . . . but what else is new?

There’s still more football left to play. Need to try to stay focused and win. Can’t say I’m vey confident that we beat any remaining SEC opponent other than Vandy - and we certainly have the ability to find a way to lose that one.

Oh well. To quote a famous movie, “I’m tired, boss.”

Go Vols!

Only reason Heupel was hired because DW’s Top targets said no.

It’ll be the exact same thing if we fired Heupel now.

Milton literally played his best game of the season, and it was good enough for a 20-7 margin in the first. Bama’s staff adjusted and ours didn’t. That’s not on qb play.

And I'm more confident against the remaining schedule now than before today.

Josh will learn from being too conservative, but Miltons paying was better and he finally understands he can be a weapon running the ball. He will be better going forward for it.

This was the worst play calling I've seen in years. We were the better talented team, but just gave this game away. How did we go from the explosive offense of last year to being one play= run up the middle ? It pains me to see the defense play so hard and give us a chance to win, only to have the offense lay an egg. If you run 3 running plays up the middle, when you inside your own 10 yard line, you are not trying to win. Very boring, very predictable, play calling cost us this game
