????

The defense took the 3rd Q off and that’s when Bama took the lead.
The defense played hard all game, but JH kept giving them the burden of holding a home field Alabama team by going for it on 4th down. You're not going to keep a Bama team scoreless for 4 quarters. Our guys got wore down by the 3 and out offense keeping them on the field To me, defense is the only improvement I've seen in this team all year. They did not cost us this game today.

We should have passed more and run up the middle less. We're horrible in the red zone all year. We should have 2 or 3 sure fire plays that get you a TD when it's 1st and goal yet all we did was run up the middle all day. Running the clock down just before half time was the dumbest thing I've seen in ages. Yes, we scored, but this could have backfired big time. That whole mindset was centered around not making sure you got into the end zone with a TD, but to keep Bama from getting the ball back...to me that is dumb. We have enough talent on offense that we should be running the same hurry up offense like last year/ and throwing it deep and across the middle all game long. Play calling reeked
We had a play in the redzone where our TE was held before the ball was tipped, no call.
We had another play where Milton had his guy open enough near the Pylon and missed him. Thar sane play he had another guy getting open over the middke but Milton's eyes were glued.

Don't see what was wrong with running the clock down. Maybe we should have thrown instead of running it on 2nd down to stop the clock. But it was clear Milton was told to get rid of the ball quickly and take no sack on 3rd down. And then we scored a TD. And it was smart letting the clock run down. You don't want to give the other team any momentum heading into the half, especially when they receive the ball after the half.

Running up the middle, though not as effective as usual, opened up the run game for Milton to keep it. That helped our offense a lot at times.

Agree.
Don't want to be the usual vol fan but it's heading down the butch path
-Married to qb who isn't getting it done
-questionable play calling
-shooting self in foot
Etc......

Hope I'm wrong
Bingo. Loyalty can sink a team. It’s obvious this offense is limited due to JM lack of skill. The question I have is if we all see it, why can’t the coaching staff?

So you were expecting to win the East in the first two years? After 30 players transferred out? GTFO
If you think it takes 5-6 years to rebuild a team in the era of the Transfer Portal, then you are way behind. This is H's third year. Are we better than under Pruitt / Jones / Dooley, sure we are better but have we won anything? How many years do you give a coach before you can say he is not good at management / player roster development / evaluating assistant coaches?

Only reason Heupel was hired because DW’s Top targets said no.

It’ll be the exact same thing if we fired Heupel now.
Tennessee does not need to fire Heupel. But he is not the answer. He is not going to get Tennessee any championships. Don’t know who is, but he ain’t it.

I’m not saying they didn’t play hard or cost us the game. But when they came out of the half and gave up a 2 play TD that definitely changed the game.

I don’t blame CJH for going for it, I do question the play call.

There is plenty of blame to go around.

We all need to remember the offensive line timeline. What did we have four years ago and how did we get to where we are now. We can go into the portal but we can’t get everybody that we want and we have to work with what we have. Lineman take time to develop. Until we have that time our line play on both sides might be suspect.

And a fanbase full of people like you is why we'll never have a staff that could win it all. NO ONE was lining up to coach here because of the absolute delusion some of us live under. Heupel is miles ahead of what we've had in over a decade and people get butthurt and jump to rash conclusions.
If you think I’m insinuating anything like Heupel being fired or being on the hot seat, I’m not. That would be utter insanity. I’m just not feeling very optimistic about this staff’s ability to have consistent, sustained success.

And I'm more confident against the remaining schedule now than before today.

Josh will learn from being too conservative, but Miltons paying was better and he finally understands he can be a weapon running the ball. He will be better going forward for it.
He threw the ball a bit better for a quarter…… he still has no football IQ and still stares down his target from the snap of the ball. He’s been benched twice for good reason. But yeah, Heup **** the bed to.

This one's on the coaches...that simple...plenty of plays and missed calls...but to come out like that in 2nd half....100% on coaches...yall be well, don't cause any trouble tonight, have a great night, we are what everyone said we were...can't lose up like that and no show florida and think we are anything better than 25# in country and mid tier bowl game...

The coaches completely changed the play calling as they were on there own 3. The next drive the had a holding call to start 1st and 20. It was Florida all over again.

We had about 2 minutes left on the clock. We very well could have used up the clock just running our normal plays and still scored without running the clock down having to risk not having enough time to get a play off and being forced to kick a field goal. It put undue risk into that possession that didn't need to be there. We were down to our last play when it worked out for us, but everyone would be questioning that possession if we had to kick a field goal instead of a TD.

Hang on so it is playoffs of fired??? If that is what you think and the powers that be at UT then we are in a lot of trouble. However I believe we are what we are and we have a coach that has finally gotten us in the conversation for the playoffs. I have been through enough coaches. The last 16 years have been painful

Being down 14 with 7 mins left and running it up the middle for the 42nd time on first down was amazing and inspiring. That’s when I was sure we had the right guy

Thank goodness they said no if they were really offered. CJH is a better coach than any of those. He is still playing with suPhil-par talent in many positions, including most of the Oline QB, and tight ends. The entire starting Oline was seniors wh, most of whom had played very much college football. The defense is still short of talent and experience at most positions. If fact, I am surprised that we have played as well as we have. The receivers played their best game today. It was not their fault we lost today. Alabama has so much talent they can be really good when they are motivated to play. They became motivated half way through the first quarter which we all witnessed. We will beat the rest of the teams we play excep Georgia and maybe Missouri. Next year we have ha ve a more talented team at almost every position, but will have less experience At crucial position, namely QB and Oline on offense and Dtzckle and secondary on defense. We will get better with each game and will be very good by mid season. 2025 will be the season when we will compete for every game , including the SEC and the NCAA playoffs. ‘Keep the faith and enjoy the ride.

If you want to play big boy football then yes, it is playoffs or staff evaluations have to occur. Does that mean you fire someone after three years, probably not. But what about after 4 years and you are 18-14 against the SEC in those 4 years? Not sure if H's 6-2 record in the SEC last year is an anomaly or will he regress to his mean of 4-4. If you have a football revenue budget (over $200M) that is in the top 10 of all FBS and you don't make the playoffs then it is hard to justify the revenue. If revenue decreases, people get fired plain and simple.
