'18 SC WR Bryce Thompson (UT commit 5/30/18)

Here is some details from a poster on VQ

His academic concerns stemmed from being caught in a changing of grades scandal. So then he was forced to transfer out of District 5 to a smaller private school. That’s why he “left” Dutch Fork for two years before transferring back to Dutch Fork to graduate. USC initially could not get their admissions to enroll him because of the expellment from a public school for cheating. Since then things have changed, and he’s been accepted to USC FWIW (he also says it was ultimately Muschamp’s decision to move on)

This comes from a direct family member who is unfortunately a die hard Cock fan & lives in Irmo. And his son (more fam) played football with Bryce at Dutch Fork

Oh, he also says kid will start day 1. Just a complete stud & competitor. Says he didn’t come from much and plays with a nasty streak.

You don't know the situation. Muschamp pulled his offer NOT for academic issues (which USC was willing to try and work through),but for OFF THE FIELD issues (multiple incidents involving females). Do a little investigative work, it wont take you long to find the details.
That post is from months ago lol. I do know the situation now or at least as much as you do. Hope the allegations aren’t true

Some gems from the SC rivals board in the thread where the news of Thompson to UT was shared...

I want to know how this happened. This guy was supposed to be an academic casualty. This guy was supposed to be our #1 committed prospect. I'm thinking this shouldn't have happened.

Somebody please lower our standards to those of UT so this happens again. So the most dynamic player at the Shrine Bowl, who wanted to be a Gamecock, will play against us 4 times. Remember, it only took one 3rd and 20 throw from Justin Worley to cost us a trip to Atlanta.

The whole issue was talked about and it was settled that he was an academic casualty and just couldn't get in here. I heard about no other issues. Another wimpy move. We have people that won't step up and do some leg work. This will come back to bite them big time.

Pathetic.

*****-Slapped twice in one day. Crap.

So we don`t take the best player, or one of them, in the state from our own back yard to take a grad transfer for 1 year? To one of our bitter rivals that is trying to jump back over us in the SEC East hierarchy? That makes no sense. If he`s that good, and Tom Knotts said he is, we should have waited on him. After all, he committed to us in December. I like WM, but if he passed on him someone needs to give him a history lesson on all of the local players we didn`t get that went on to our rivals or the NFL. Maybe he needs to be told about Albert Haynesworth. If we passed on him deliberately, which it sounds like, I think it will be a major mistake that will come back to haunt us.

He was the straw that stirred the drink in this class. You know it and I know it. Whatever his "issues" are, Tennessee wasn't put off by them so I assume he's not some kind of antisocial felon. But I guess if he is, we won't be learning about it here. They just want him more than we did. I suppose we should expect that, with his disqualifying qualifications, he'll never see the field for them.

Tennessee wanted one of the absolute best players in our state - the highest-rated player who was ever on this year's USC committment list - more than we did. That's elucidating.

Duh? I was saying that I’m skeptical of it because we just dropped Norwood for sexual assault allegations so why would we add this guy

Because “duuuuh” we did! He’s enrolled you numnuts! And Norwood was more borderline talent that was up in the air...he never signed.

Muschamp was eager to take him until it looked like he might not get in. Thompson completed some online courses and qualified, so UT took him. UT's admissions standards aren't less stringent than SCAR's. He's enrolled, but he'll probably need to spend a lot of time at the Thornton Center to stay on track academically.

None of that is true.

Are you dense? We’re on the same page lol. I’m saying that I’m skeptical of the claims against Thompson because we just dropped a kid (Norwood) that had similar accusations against him.

That’s what one of their 247 mods said. Hopefully it isn’t true but considering we dropped Norwood over those types of charges it would be shocking if we took Thompson

Not how it read, dude. Maybe if you replaced the first bolded with “if it WERE true”? Even then it still sounds like a decision needs to be MADE.

What is he talking about here with Haynesworth? I was too young when he was here, did he not have a good career that got him to the NFL?

Let him joust his windmills.

What you wrote wasn’t difficult to understand.

He is saying he is a player they didn't get that went on to be a stud NFL player.

Straight from SCAR media:

The new Tennessee head football coach made Bryce Thompson a priority way back in January when he and his coaching staff began working Thompson who at the time was a USC pledge, but also was not likely to sign with the Gamecocks on National Signing Day. Will Muschamp wanted Thompson to improve his academic standing before signing with USC and that opened the door for other schools to move in. After Thompson visited the Knoxville school in late February and then again in April for Tennessee's Spring Game, it was clear the Volunteers had moved to the front for Thompson's services.

It’s as simple as this. Everything else from them is saltiness. Pruitt swooped in and stole him. End of story

..."
Haynesworth was born in Hartsville, South Carolina. He attended Hartsville High School, and participated in football, track, and shot put.[5] Playing under head coach Lewis Lineberger, Haynesworth accounted for 150 tackles, 56 tackles for loss, six sacks, and six fumble recoveries as a junior; he followed that by tallying 110 tackles, 51 quarterback pressures, and six sacks as a senior in 1998.[5]

Following his senior season, Haynesworth was named a SuperPrep and Rivalnet All-American, and was also rated the fourth-best defensive lineman and the 14th-ranked overall player in the nation according to ESPN's Top 100, while National Recruiting Advisor rated him as the best defensive tackle in the country.[5] He was a member of the University of Tennessee Volunteer"...

Haynesworth was a stud. But whether he had "roid rage" or some other personalality disorder, he screwed up his NFL career bigtime with at least $100 million left on the table for contracts he had already signed but let his uncontrolled personality destroy those opportunities. He has been called the biggest free agent bust in NFL history. Go look it up.
