'19 SC WR/DB Kenney Solomon (Tennessee signee)

Ah...no. Let's put all our eggs in the Wright, Harris, Pickens basket. If neither Harris or Pickens gets the grades, so be it. Take the hit and move on to 2020. We need as many elite players as we can get. Kids like solomon and russell might be solid players, but we need difference makers. I have to believe Wright, Harris and Pickens fall into the latter category.

Agreed, unless Solomon is really that fast. That kinda speed is a difference maker IMO.

We've had speed kids before who really weren't much on the field. Leonard Scott comes to mind. Pickens and Harris are football players. I'll take those types over track boys any day.
Yeah I like Pickens and Harris too, but I wouldn’t mind adding Solomon as well.

If you got to go all the way back to Leonard Scott who played is last snap in 2002...... it does not sound like we have had to many speed kids or track boys

You mean like OLE WILLIE GAULT. Even though Leonard Scott caught few passes he certainly stretched the field back in the day. Willie did pretty good. I understand what you are saying though. In the past you had a QB who could place the ball but not lately. I like the slants and outs and curls myself because that is how you work your way down field. But then again you have to have a QB who can place the ball or throw it to a spot and not over or behind the receiver.

I mean I love classic, hard nosed, heavy hitting players just as much as everyone, but legit speed isn’t to be dismissed. Guys like Tyreek Hill COMPLETELY change how a team has to play you on defense and special teams. Pickens, McCollough, Wright, Harris, Harrison, Crouch, Savion, etc. are meat and potatoes dudes. Track speed, *used correctly* is an awesome sauce. 🥘

Not sure where your argument on this kid is coming from ? It's obvious from his film that he's a football player and not just a track guy. He isn't afraid to mix it up and has good instincts on the field, he's obviously not just a straight line runner. If there is a concern it is about the level of competition he has faced in High School, I haven't the slightest idea whether he played consistently against anybody else on his scale or not. Need his kind of speed and aggressiveness from somewhere though that's for certain.

No doubt. 1 thing I remember growing up was always hearing how Fulmer would recruit guys off the track team as walkons or HS track guys as recruits. Part of why the 90s were so good, we rarely lacked speed. The 1 tean that regularly upped us in speed was UF and they gave us problems. Speed is absolutely paramount.

Take 1981. Willie Gault, Anthony Hancock, Mike Miller and Darryal Wilson, all receivers for coach Johnny Majors, were, come spring, All-Americans in track for coach Stan Huntsman. That’s a 4x100 relay team worth watching.

I remember them well. We can only hope that this kid, if we sign him, is anything close to those level of players for UT. I'll admit to being skeptical.

Is this guy really take or rather a reach? Can’t really compare this guy to Bruce Thompson

I think this way a lot of the time, but also get intrigued by adding some speed with guys like Solomon and the WR from LA.... not sure what the right risk/reward breakdown is in our current situation.... the only "loss" that has bothered me is Henry T. Never got invested with Bogle or Pappoe or especially Russel... everybody got to go with their gut I guess... I admit I will follow the PWO group that actually shows up this year... I fear several high quality guys that have gone public so far will eventually take a scholie somewhere...

It’s a simple discussion. Nobody calling for Pruitt’s firing, we all want him to succeed. Quite honestly, while there is certainly quality in this and last year’s classes, they’re falling a little short of where they need to be to see a quick turnaround.
Guess we better get over the quick turnover demand and enjoy the ride.

What’s happened is some determined individuals have redefined what “closing” means. Normally it’s used as a term for completing a deal or agreement...like a COMMITMENT. So the SIGNEES we landed for ESD? That was closing. Not reeling in kids we weren’t even in on before the past season doesn’t belong in the same paragraph.

Very succinct analysis. Trolls will be trolls though

Who would you replace. Who knows what will happen on NSD and thereafter like last year. I like who we got this year. No complaints from T MF'ing DOG.
We’re gonna have the 15th or so class in the country and no better than middle of the pack in the SEC. We’ll lose ground to our 3 biggest rivals.

Class is outstanding at OL, very good at DB and that’s about it. Got a good RB, promising QB and what looks to be two good primarily blocking TEs. Fell way short on the DL and at LB. Also missed on adding speed at WR.

As I said, good class, quality players here and there, just not the great class we needed if we’re gonna catch up to UGA, Bama and Florida.

They can’t keep their athletes any longer than we can. Two classes get us right there. Pruitt’s recruiting the types that can play for him.

Aren't we ahead of Florida in the rankings?
