Scientists find Missing Link

Anyone have a recommendation for a good book that covers all the basics of evolutionary theory (preferably one that covers both sides of the arguments)?

Why?
How can one believe in both God and evolution?

The Bible states that God created man. That rules out evolution.

By what means did God create man, could evolution, to some extent, be a part of the process by which he created us? If we read the Bible literally it totally leaves out the dinosaurs yet we have many examples of their existence. God leaves us no time period in which they could have existed (if you read the Bible with literal interpretation). How do you explain this?

we have how many dino fossils compared to the number that actually lived on earth? Then compare that to trying to find a fossil from a very specific animal that is only 1.5ft tall somewhere on the planet that is preserved enough to study.

I guess I never realized/considered how abundant dinosaurs were back then? Never really taught the subject in grade school:)

No it doesn't. Evolution could have been the mechanism he used.

Read the first book of Genisis. It clearly states God created man. There is no way that anyone that believes the Bible can believe in evolution.

It doesn't say that monkey evolved into a man. It says God created man.

If one believes the Bible, one has to believe that God is the creator of all things. There is no gray area, one believes or one doesn't.

Ridiculous. It's like saying you can't believe in blood platelets, because God is responsible for the healing of wounds.

The book of Genesis says God created everything. How did he go about it? Did he assemble us from parts? Did he blink us into existence? It doesn't say. So you can't be certain that he didn't bring about humans in a process like evolution.

Taking the bible literally throughout is a dangerous game. If you do so honestly, I don't think you'll like what you find.

So if you're recognizing that Man has been on this Earth for 6,000 years how can you explain defined evolutionary traits in between races that correspond with where they are living (namely nose structure relating to climate)?

I feel compelled to add that if you truly took all of the Old Testament literally, you would be Jewish and not Christian.

I've tried to be open-minded about the Bible and I found, what I thought, a God that was embarrassed by Humans and was distrustful of what Mankind had become.

Why do I sound like Dr. Zaius from "Planet of the Apes?"

Right........... God created man... what does this have to do with evolution and believing the bible?

I look at it this way, no matter which camp you belong to we are all trying to seek the answers to a question that is so complicated it is beyond our realm of understanding. I believe in science and I believe in God. The two are not mutually exclusive for me. Although I am a Christian I don't think asking the questions about our origins is defying god. If he made human beings in his likeness he most certainly intended us to ask questions and seek the answers, it is simple human nature.
Well said.

One of my favorite quotes...from Galileo...

"I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use and by some means to give us knowledge which we can attain by them."

Do you believe that on the day God created man is literally a 24 hour period?

but, the problem is when it is stated there is a beginning is implicit in there being an end, which most scientists admittedly don't want to consider... Einstein included.

I'm not saying there was a "beginning". For all we know, the entire universe can be contained in a closed manifold, with no "beginning" or "end".

My only point is that when an atheist is challenged to explain where everything came from, the theist proclaiming "God did it and he is infinite and everlasting" is ridiculous. It is just as honest to say the the universe is infinite and everlasting.

How reliable is carbon dating and who deems it reliable?

Serious question
Posted via VolNation Mobile

In the time range of thousands of years, it is pretty fairly reliable. it has to do with the radioactive decay of certain carbon isotopes.

Keep in mind, with things that are millions of years old, they don't actually use carbon dating but rather other isotopic techniques, as well as stratigraphy.

As far as "Who considers them reliable?" Well, the vast vast majority of the scientific community.

I guess that is why they call it faith.

How do you explain dinosaurs?

Psalm 148 references dragons, beast, creeping things and flying fowl.
The Hebrew word for dragon(tannin), which often refers to serpents( Exod 7:9 ; Duet 32:33 : Ps 91:13), is used generally in Gen 1:21 for large sea creatures.
Leviatian ( a large sea creature) is referenced in ( Job 41:1-34; Ps 74:14; Isa 27;1.
Dragons are referenced ( PS 74:13; Isa 51:9).
