Scientists find Missing Link

Do you believe that dinosaurs and humans lived together? (It is a simple Yes or No answer.) The fact that you are so hesitant to answer leads me to believe that you have trouble reconciling that.

I'm not hesitant to answer. Yes I believe they lived at the same time. I listed several bible references earlier.

I will repeat them for you:

Psalm 148 references dragons, beast, creeping things and flying fowl.
The Hebrew word for dragon(tannin), which often refers to serpents( Exod 7:9 ; Duet 32:33 : Ps 91:13), is used generally in Gen 1:21 for large sea creatures.
Leviatian ( a large sea creature) is referenced in ( Job 41:1-34; Ps 74:14; Isa 27;1.
Dragons are referenced ( PS 74:13; Isa 51:9).

Using the Bible to answer such questions is a risky proposition. I don't think it ever claims to be a scientific source of information.

Thank you for answering. You did not ask but I will tell you what I think. There is no way that dinosaurs were running around here less than 6000 years ago. I believe in God but that does not mean that I have to “check my brain at the door”. The Bible is a compilation of stories written by men and translated umpteen times to suit their viewpoint.

You would be hard pressed to find anyone that studies the bible (ie priest, scholar, Rabbi, The Pope....) that thinks the bible should be interpreted literally.

With all due respect, I don't think its hard at all. Anyone with a TV can find an evangelist preaching that every night.

Even if you did want to interpret it literally, I'm not sure that the 6 days thing really means anything. It could be that 6 days was a lot longer back then. Maybe the Earth rotated slower. Maybe time passes very slowly in Heaven. I don't really know or care, but there is more than one way to interpret these things and I don't think it's a good idea to just assume your first interpretation is 100% correct and any alternative is just preposterous and offensive.

My issue is that there have been periods in history where it was used exactly as a scientific source of information. And still today, whatever science can't explain, there are probably a significant number of people that turn for to the Bible for the answer.

It's hard to explain the whole 6 days thing when there wasn't even an earth for part of that time.

And for that matter, if he rested on the seventh day, what do you suppose he did on the eighth?

IIRC Heaven and Earth are formed in the beginning. Stars, Sun and moon came afterwards (on the last day?) So how can you have mans definition of a day when there is no bearing?

I have no idea. Maybe the idea of time and space comes from God. I don't know.

I've skimmed through this thread, and basically, what I've come to is this.

Most people, if not all but a few, are somewhere in the middle of the Creationism vs. Evolution debate, as am I. They believe there's a God, but they also subscribe to science, and scientific theory.

However, there are a few, who think that the Earth was, quite literally, created by God, with no other means of intervention. Now, this isn't what I believe, doesn't make it wrong, but it's not my, or most people's belief system.

Sorry if I'm not adding anything here, just wanted to say that.

So if you believe that dinosaurs lived with humans as recently as 6000 years ago, where did they go? The great flood would not account for their extinction since God told Noah to take two of every kind of animal into the ark; thus dinosaurs would have been saved. What happened to them?

They swam.

Logic is of little concern when we are talking about naked people running around in a garden talking to snakes.

Obviously they fell off the boat, which is why we now have life preservers.

They weren't within walking distance, like every other animal supposedly was.

....It's almost fun when you don't have to think about what you're saying and declare it all as true based on faith.

I know I'd like to have the basic questions of life answered, just like that.

It could just be that a limited number of animals were within walking distance, but thanks to the miracle of evolution we now have many more land-roving species today.

Nope. Read the good book again. Every animal, two by two.
