Scotty Hopson

Their intensity if the least of our worries under CBP. They won't play otherwise.

Very true, which is why I worry CBP may back off Hopson, a la Chris Singleton, if the attitude is a real concern.

rivals update... they have officially decommitted him from MSU. UT still listed as high interest, along with louisville (worry). cincy listed as high interest as well, along with MSU, still. KY is listed as a medium interest and OSU is apparently off his list.

The attitude concern with Singleton, if there really was one, wasn't his lack of intensity at times. Singleton brought baggage with him which was a concern. Pierre Jordan, who he lives with, and some other guy thats a good friend than wants to come on to be a manager at that school with him.

He's not going to back off Hopson for lack of intensity..

And for the record - Pearl didn't back off Singleton. He still wanted him but it took the pressure of him by getting Woolridge.

the feeling i'm getting from everything i've seen is that the kid wants to go to Louisville due to Pitino's perceived track record of getting prospects ready for the pros. if Evans goes to Louisville, he will instead go with either UT or Cincy.

You may be correct--Pitino is a huge draw. But he was a huge draw to Louisville when Hopson committed the first time, and I didn't get the impression that Hopson was too hot on the 'ville then.

The school that really worries me is Kentucky. Scotty basically eliminated them originally because he didn't think Tubby wanted him badly enough, and he didn't really click with Reggie Hansen. There is a different energy with Billy G. at the helm, and UK seems to be much more interested. This is a big UK area, where putting on a blue uni brings a celebrity all of its own. Ravi Moss, for example, is certainly not the best HS player to come out of this area in the past decade, but he is probably the most adored because he played in Lexington.

Hopson will stay in Kentucky

Even with all that I wrote above, that is still very much undecided.

Geez... i was feeling confident in landing this guy..
i thought he was going to ease the pain with not landing Elliot Williams..

i believe that the kid may have committed to louisville in the first place if he hadn't been manipulated by his AAU coach to commit to MSU. or at the very least, he would have held off to see if Tyreke committed to Louisville before making his decision to go to KY or elsewhere.

I don't want to speculate, but I will. If Evans ends up at UL, we get Hopson...
There I said it.

He's always been very high on UT as well(we were even thought to be his leader before he committed to MSU) and we always kept in contact with him to an extent.

I talked to him briefly about 2 weeks before he committed to MSU, and I talked extensively to both his AAU coach and his highschool coach at the time(whom I know very well.) Louisville was not at the top of the list then--it was UT, MSU, and Ohio St in no particular order.

I would think Pitino could make a good case to any kid, and he may yet wind up a Cardinal, but I don't think the in-state advantage means much. They are closer to home (it is about a 2.5 hour drive to Louisville vs about 4 to Knoxville from here,) but UK has the monopoly as the in-state team.

looks like hopson will be the only big recruit we have a shot at this year......how times have changed. basketball is almost king

You do realize that both of the players we have already signed are each more of a "big recruit" than almost any player we got in the last 5 years before Pearl got to UT?

Wow, article lists him at 6'7. If he has grown to be that tall he's a big-time prospect, maybe a one and done.

The only thing that bothers me is that he's looking for a coach that can develop athletes and send them to the pros. Pearl doesn't look like he's going to be looking to good in that area anytime soon. Ramar and Chism are suppose to be our superstars that make the leap to the next level. And their progress has seemed to digress lately.

He also said he wants to play in an uptempo offense, and obviously knows we lose all three starters in the backcourt next season. At UL he'll have to beat out Jerry Smith, Terrance Williams, and Reginald Delk at least. I'm not saying I like the idea of a player coming in and walking into the starting lineup, but Hopson really seems like an exceptional talent.

Well here's the deal with Hopson. If he signs with us, he will walk into the lineup and start.

I have never seen any stats or seen in video of Hopson, so I'm not saying that he can't come in and start, but we should have a very good lineup next year. I would think that he would have a hard time finding the starting line up when we will have the players that we have coming back unless he can play the point and beat out Ramar:

Ramar (hopefully he will be able to start at Point next year)
T. Smith (if he doesn't go Pro)
Prince
Tatum
Chism or Williams

The way it looks is that maybe Prince can play point and Ramar moves to second team and Hopson starts over Ramar.
T. Smith goes pro opening up a spot.
Or Hopson starts over Tatum
