The local word is that Bruce Pearl will be in Hopkinsville tonight to watch Hopson's Blazers play Clarksville High. If I can get the schedule worked out, I may go check it out.

If you go, you've got to wear your orange.

UT coaches did not make it, although a school official told me Bruce was scheduled to come. My guess is that they could not get an airplane in here do to a low ceiling, a common problem at our airport this time of year.

I'll have to check the stat line when the paper comes out, but Hopson had 33 points and, by my unofficial count, was about 3 blocks away from a triple double against a pretty good Clarksville team that included Tyrone Caldwell, a point guard that has signed with APSU.

The kid is a real talent, and he is definitely bigger than 6'5". He has 3 point range, but is still best in transition or breaking a player down from the wing and going to the basket. He is a force in the paint on defense and rebounding. My only criticism is that he still has trouble being intense for the whole game, although he turned it on, especially defensively, in the 4th quarter last night.

For what it is worth, UHA also has another potential D-1 player in point/2-guard Tyshaun Edmunds (sp?) The kid had 29 last night and outplayed Clarksville's Caldwell. I know that last year's UHA coach was trying to package the two, but he resigned and there is a new staff in place.

If I learn anything else, I'll be sure to post an update.

Actually, I didn't. Everybody there knows my allegiance, anyway.

According to the local paper, Bruce was expected to come to the game, "however, poor weather conditions kept Pearl from arriving." The official line on Hopson was 33 points, 10 boards and 5 blocks (I think he had at least 1 more.)

By the way, the guard's name from University Heights is Tyshwan Edmonson.

Also, just for informational purposes:

1. The UHA/Mason County game was a scrimmage

2. Hopson is now listed at 6'7" and I believe it. He plays taller than that.

3. UHA is ranked 12th in the preseason Bluegrasspreps poll. There is a special "Class A" state tournament for small schools in which UHA is eligible to participate, but this ranking (and the overall state championship) includes schools of all sizes. There is no real class division in Kentucky basketball.

i would love to get him but would that really solve the PG position next year if we land him?

I'd love to get Hopson even if he is a SG!! EW was a SG also, so Hopson would make up for it..
and We could always get Leslie for our PG in the 09 class

Ramar isn't going anywhere. J.P. will likely get the leftover minutes at point next season.

yeah u are right....ramar shooting is not exactly up to NBA standards.....and i cant wait to see J.P. Ive heard he is awwwing ppl during practice. Talk about a tall guard line up with J.P. and Hopson (if we get him)

He won't get any minutes at point this year. Ramar already doesn't get enough minutes.

Even next year I'd be surprised if he got a lot of time at the point because of his height which makes him more turnover prone than shorter PGs.

What if he's a better PG than Ramar?

What about Magic Johnson and Jalen Rose? Were they more turnover prone?
