SCOTUS fails to stop TX abortion law.

And you've added what?...The opinion that you're personally against abortion, an issue that dos not and never will physically effect you?...Here's the real kicker, if you look a couple pages up, I state that I'm personally against it, that I don't like it, it's just not an issue that I have a right to have a real opinion on...It's not a humanity issue, it's a uniquely women's issue.

It is absolutely a "humanity issue" depending on your view on when human life begins. Whether or not it's okay to end a human life is everyone's business. I understand the complication that one life is connected to another.

Texas Abortion Law Kicks Up Storm Over Private Right To Sue

Top Republicans in other states say they are examining how the Texas law’s unique “private right of action” enforcement structure could be used for similar abortion bans.

The Supreme Court unleashed a tempest by letting Texas’ near-total abortion ban take effect this week, allowing private citizens to sue anyone they suspect of helping a pregnant person access the procedure.

Hours after justices issued their 5-4 decision early Thursday, top Republicans in Florida, Arkansas and South Dakota said they were examining how the law’s unique “private right of action” enforcement structure could be used for look-alike abortion bans in their own states. Meanwhile, opponents of the Texas law said it’s sowing legal uncertainty across the country and warned it could be adapted for a range of other issues, such as gun control and Covid mask and vaccine mandates.

This is another stupid hot take of yours. It’s already having the desired effect. By and large most abortions have ceased in Texas. At least for now.

There are plenty of women who are against abortion. It's not like it's men vs women in this discussion.

In fact, a higher percentage of women than of men are pro-life.

EDIT: I may have to walk this statement back. I've found some polling that corroborates my assertion, but more that undermines it. In any event, the number of women who oppose abortion is quite considerable.

Funny, lots of people in TX worried about keeping their freedom to decide to vaccinate or not
to decide to wear a mask or not
But they don't want women to have the choice to abort or not. Funny ;) Pitiful.......

Back to the game!!!

IMO staunch anti-abortion for any reason or at any time people that support the death penalty or not working to facilitate adoptions are hypocrites.

In your opinion, is someone staunchly opposed to drunk driving also a hypocrite if he approves of the consumption of alcohol and is not personally at work facilitating designated driving?

You're going to have a hard time persuading folks to be vaccinated and to wear a mask out of compassion for others when you exhibit no trace of compassion for the child in the womb. (For the record, I'm fully vaccinated, and I wear a mask voluntarily.)

Good question but I would say no.

I would say no as well. Why, then, do you judge pro-life folk who may support the death penalty or who are not personally involved in facilitating adoption differently?

Because if you support the death penalty and are not helping promote adoption you are not pro-life, you are just anti-abortion.

I happen to oppose the death penalty, but I see nothing hypocritical in someone holding the position that the perpetrator of a heinous crime should be subject to execution while the innocent child in the womb should not.

I can't claim to have taken any meaningful action to promote adoption, so I suppose on that count you will judge me a hypocrite, but you seem to me to apply an unfair criterion. Am I also a hypocrite for opposing child abuse, even though I'm not personally involved in securing safe homes for abused children? If so, should I do away with my hypocrisy by ceasing to oppose child abuse?

It's a common trope that the pro-life (or anti-abortion, if you prefer) are hypocrites if we haven't personally made extraordinary exertions in behalf of our conviction (adopting the children of those who would otherwise abort them, for example). Never have I seen the opponents of any other crime or vice or social malady held to a similar standard.

On an entirely different note, thank god all y'all here on VN aren't complete psychopaths when it comes to this political stuff, unlike our fellow SEC brethren Texas A&M over at TexAgs, good god lol.

I knew we shoulda stopped at 12 teams.

He's getting on you about the label "pro-life". We all know that "pro-life" is associated with "anti-abortion", but looks like he is being a stickler about labeling.

Dualistic thinking is pointless in a topic of this complexity. Actually it's crap in most things, but especially this one.

Those of you with complex and nuanced opinions, keep up the good work.

Why is stopping abortions past the time a baby has a heartbeat a big deal? Help me to understand why this isn't a middle ground that would neither pacify or disappoint either side. Both sides get a little bit of what they want, but are forced to compromise on getting everything they want.

If the unborn child has implanted in a fallopian tube, then it will rupture the tube as it grows and kill both mother and child. Limiting procedures with a hard cap of present heartbeat puts doctors and hospitals in very tight legal spots where saving the mother's life may mean violating the letter of the law.

Had a good chat with my wife about this topic last night. She had a wrinkle I hadn't considered.

When a pregnant woman in a marginalized or underserved group is constantly bombarded with messaging about how their children are drains on others' tax dollars, how they just grow up to be junkies or gang bangers, how their lives are worth less because there may not be a father around, etc, it creates a greater desire to end pregnancies. Being told your future child is a failure before they're even born does not inspire people to try harder, it shuts them down and makes them want to end the shame however possible.
