SEC coaching shake up coming?

There is nothing about Auburn that makes it an easier place to win a championship. He turned around recruiting there in a couple of years. It’s a backwater with no draw except the money and the coach. It’s a pretty easy place to top.
I think proximity to Atlanta helps with UGA and GT rarely ever being great. But he can get the same talent to Indiana with their NIL.

They remain a top national basketball brand with rabid fans, huge tradition and donors who want to win. That’s more than enough to attract a great coach if the money is right.
They can attract a great coach still no doubt, but Pearl in specific I say probably not.
The guy is about to hit retirement age.
It's all about legacy now and staying at Auburn would give him the beat shot at a Natty.
He effectively would be starting from scratch at Illinois. Sure it is easier now with the portal and whatnot but why add that added pressure to yourself? Easier to just keep the ball rolling at Auburn.

No not RB but the Indiana job is already open and some rumors out of Kansas that Self might be thinking about retiring

We have the Untouchables like Barnes, Pearl, Oats, Golden Calipari, Pope and Byington. Plus I doubt Buzz Williams would leave A&M.

So that leaves 3; Jans at MSU, Beard at Ole Miss and Dennis Gates at Mizzou as Prime candidates to jump.

Jans has done a remarkable job at the toughest place to win in the SEC. Plus he's not even the #1 school in the poorest and dumbest state in the country. Which makes his sweep of Ole Piss even more remarkable.

Beard would be the slam dunk for any school almost if he just didnt have this habit of beating up his girl friend. Still Kansas has shown by keeping Self after his scandal that character and integrity dont matter much in Lawrence.

Gates is having a remarkable season after the disaster that was last year. Plus he checks the Diversity box unlike the others.

Plus IMHO if we made a run like to the FF or EE I think RB would consider retiring to the North Carolina mountains.

Looks like an interesting off-season coming up with NIL and the Portal effect.
Barnes might be retiring soon. ZZ is going to be gone after this year.

I don’t think any of those you listed are untouchable. Barnes, Calipari, and Pearl would be the least likely to jump due to their age. Indiana would never hire Calipari. Oats’ contract might prevent another school from forking over that much cash. Indiana prides itself on fundamentals and defense, anyway. I think Beard is in play, as well as Dusty May.

Pearl’s age is a different matter, as is his heart attack prone toad physique. No one knows whether he would or wouldn’t leave. As for winning a championship, I’m not sure his odds will ever be any better than this year. What if he wins? He could walk into one of the most prestigious historically important programs as the top paid coach in the country. Will he? Who TF knows. His best coaching attribute has always been his ability to get kids to follow him. He’s not the world’s best X’s and O’s coach by any stretch. It’s also a stretch to think the Big Ten/Indiana would want him. I can only say, that any offer to leave central Alabama is a good offer.

Half way between Atlanta and Birmingham - pretty good recruiting base close by with a lot of successful alumni in both cities.

Isn’t Bloomington <80K people?
Bloomington is Dickson, TN with a major state university in it. Dickson is around 20k while Bloomington is around 80k, but IU has enrollment of just under 50k and when you count everything driven by the university, it's a fair comparison, especially given the distance to Nashville/Indy and the surrounding topography. Bloomington just doesn't have a Columbia or Clarksville anywhere near it.

I don't know SF... Yankees vs Bammers? Which is worse to live among probably just varies depending on the day. But seriously outside of starting over at his age, I would think Pearl would feel much more at home at IU than at the Barn.

That and a sandwich will get you a sandwich. Auburn is in the middle of nowhere. If you look at their roster, half are transfers. The roster comes from Texas, NJ, Tn, GA, and Fl from memory, and I’m sure from other places. Bruce has recruited successfully every where he’s been. If he can get them to come to a soybean field in Alabama, I’m sure he can get them to come to a cornfield in Indiana.

Just curious what makes Mark Byington untouchable?
Just a hunch:

1. He's in the most attractive city in the SEC

2. It appears Vandy has made a financial commitment and barring a complete collapse in the last 3 weeks will give him a significant bump in salary. And the Vandy NIL group should have plenty of money.

3, Appears Vandy has eliminated any pretense to being an elite academic institution. The guy who almost beat us single handedly Saturday is a transfer from North Texas State and their QB
Diego is from New Mexico State. Neither of which are in the Top 250 in Academic rankings. So I don't want to hear anymore of the, "Harvard," of the South BS.

No way. Any coach who wants to win at the highest level and appreciates college basketball tradition will crawl to a job like Indiana or Kansas, where passion for the program is off the charts. Vandy is far from that - they’ve only been to the elite eight once in their history.

Candy lowered their academic standard for athletes years ago

Your point is well taken, but the Portal and LIV have created a whole new universe.

True, in the 70s when they had the agreement with Peabody and then later when they merged with the them. But Peabody is an actual school with high academic standards unlike shitholes like North Texas and New Mexico state
Neither North Texas nor New Mexico State plays in an athletic league like the SEC. Actually, levels below it

If Stephen F’g Pearl has any viability as a head coach he should take a job somewhere where he isn’t a package deal with Bruce. He’ll never do that though because he’d fail.

All fair points, but if it's Indiana or Vanderbilt, any coach with the least bit of ambition is making that move. Vandy just isn't a destination job for coaches with better options. Truthfully, half the SEC coaching jobs are better jobs.

Only half? Can’t think of another SEC school that cares less about athletes and has a worse fanbase?

Well, I was being conservative. As far as basketball specifically, Georgia, Ole Miss, and South Carolina might be the only three that aren't either currently or historically better jobs.
