SEC coaching shake up coming?

Since we're debating whether Indiana is a better job than Auburn, here's an interesting statistic I saw on Twitter earlier today:

Most winning seasons in Division I Men's Basketball since 1945:
75 - Kentucky, Louisville
74 - UCLA, North Carolina
73 - Duke
71 - Kansas
69 - Syracuse
67 - Indiana, Princeton
66 - UConn, Temple

You said "start from scratch." I'll remind you Arkansas was #16 in the preseason poll - I wouldn't call that "starting at the bottom" rather than an indictment of Cal's coaching ability. By the way, his Kentucky teams were bounced in the first round two of the last three seasons.

Ten first-year coaches have taken teams to the Final Four. We'll see what Kelsey does in the tournament this year, and Pearl has made it out of the first weekend only once in the last 14 years. Not sure what your point is but there isn't enough of a sample size in the new NIL world to say it can or can't be done.
We we talking about his best chances of necessarily winning a Natty next year. That was the context.
When you transfer to a new school there will be hurdles besides just grabbing a roster. In the old era or this new one.
At Auburn Pearl has everything already in place. Assistant Coaches, staff, strength and training program, facilities set to his liking, family settled/less distractions, etc.
You don't build a culture at a new school over night. Look at Barnes when he came here.
Look at Pope at Kentucky in this new era. Cal at Arkansas.
You give a stat of 10 Coaches taking a team to a final 4 in first year. Now complie the stats of all the Coaches that flamed out in year one and even year two and do a percentage ( also if those coaches happened to take over a current winning program). I guarantee the odds are not in his favor. Does that suddenly change now that we are in NIL and transfer era? Remains to be seen.

Pearl isn't coming to IU, nor will he be offered.
MOST of the NIL money and booster cash floating around IU is old school money.
While there is a lot of it to go around and make most anything happen, it comes with strings, stipulations, and memories run deep.

Pearl won't be offered at IU due to the past NCAA findings and sanctions he helped bring against Illinois while an assistant at Iowa.
Those old money folks remeber that kind of stuff and stay clear.

I have a good friend from Vincennes who went to IU. Said Bloomington is a nice town but winters are miserable and depressing. Which is why he moved.

I do think this whole convo is pretty funny and lighthearted. Clearly a slow time of year lol
We don't have a mid week game this week.
We have to have something to argue about, bro.🤣

First off I'm not sure anyone is "untouchable" in this Era. Bruce would be a moron to leave Auburn for IU. Indiana is an average job at best for the past 20 plus years,

Ego.

You raise a once national prominent program from the dead and back to number one and you are a legend. I’m not saying he could but one of Barnes major resume builders is how he saved TN bball. Same with Pitino at St. John’s. If they win the conference it will be the first time since 1992. That’s the stuff a true winner gets off on. Money is nice but stuff like bringing a dead program back scratches the ego big time. Top coaches believe they are the program.

Plus who the F wants to live in AL.

Did he ever have any run ins with a cutter? (Wonder if anyone has a clue to this reference?)

Don't know the reference and afraid to ask.
If in Bloomington, don't buy a car from this guy.

Couple of references - one most likely led to the other.
The movie Breaking Away follows four working class kids just after high school in Bloomington, IN trying to find their way and are referred to us 'cutters' by the university crowd.
The term 'cutter' being used in a derogatory sense to denote someone who works, or has a relative that works, the local limestone quarries.
The plot of the movie is one of the kids falls into competitive cycling and ends up racing the Little 500 with little or no help.
The movie got a lot of positive critical response including several Oscar and Golden Globe nominations and wins.

That in turn setup a real life sports club in Bloomington where kids were taught cycling and soccer.
The club was named The Cutters and the soccer side still runs today and feeds kids into the perennial powerhouse IU soccer system.

I've lived in southern Indiana and Alabama and have no desire to live in either again, but I don't think there's enough of a difference to affect a coaching decision. If you're working 60-hour+ weeks how much do you get to think about the weather?

He would not get out of Champaign alive the first time he had to coach a game at Illinois, and he knows that.

No fanbase in the country celebrated his firing at UT more than the Illini. They have a visceral hatred for him over the Deon Thomas fiasco.

If IU decides not to care about past baggage, Beard makes more sense because he’s younger.

One of my lesser known favorite old movies. I highly recommend folks giving it a watch!

That’s way too dramatic, No coach is getting killed. Maybe have a mustard bottle thrown at him but not killed. And he may actually enjoy the boos and his players feed off it. And who gives a F about Illinois? That’s like saying TN cares about Miss States feelings. Miss State is lucky to be in the conference. Illinois is the same way.

Pearl will be more or less starting from scratch whether he’s at Auburn or any other school next year. They have about 10 seniors this year and would expect them to lose an underclassman or 2.

Roster may be turning over, but he's in a good spot to recruit more guys into the system he has built there. He's put the work in.
Pearl has also revived Auburn's fanbase. They've completely bought in to him as a coach, and are a dramatically different program from where they were ten years ago. If you remember he did similar stunts like he did at Tennessee to drum up interest. He's built a winning culture there.
Everything is in place For him at Auburn. All his time and focus can be on nothing but recruitment. He's in a much better spot there than if he went to another school such as Indiana. Like I said in another post, roster isn't the only thing you have to worry about when changing to a completely new school.

Barnes will be in a similar situation at UT next year if he stays. IMO, I believe most all the things I said above apply to him, too. I think he has built a culture that any top player would love to be apart of.

It's actually unbelievable how old some of their guys are. I think they have like 5 guys who are 23, or older. Faker-Bizzaro is 25 years old (acts like a 12 year old).

You’re taking this nonsense narrative to the grave apparently.

State working Tamy.
They don't look impressive at all tonight. Naturally, they'll play their best game of the year against us.
(Edit: Apologies, wrong thread)
