SEC Expansion (merged)

After what I learned last night, here's how I see it. We either follow t.u. to the Pac10 along with tech and the Oklahomas, or we land in the SEC west and still maintain our Thanksgiving Day game with t.u. That's one hell of an OOC if you ask me.

Im thinking I better start studying up on travel accomodations in the state of Arizona and L.A. proper.

texas and A&M are apparently meeting today to discuss either the pac-10 or sec. looks like the SEC is the only thing in the way of hte pac-16

C'mon Rick Perry! Get Texas to the SEC. You don't want your teams in Texas to be associated with those liberal hippies on the left coast!

apparently the texas rivals site is reporting texas has already informed their coaches they are going to the pac-10. come on over A&M. the waters warm!

We could always add 4 ACC teams to the SEC and realign the divisions. It would work the same as stealing from the Big 12.

How's staying at Texas working out for ya, Muschamp?

If the SEC wants to expand its TV market footprint, it could add Texas A&M (chunk of
texas market), ga.tech (atlanta)--and what about missouri (st. louis?) and kansas even (kansas city)? Those are big cities and very sizeable markets. Kansas would greatly enhance the SEC's weak basketball conference (tho make life considerably more difficult for Pearl), and missouri (states school) seems a good match with the SEC to me. Miami is another possibility--though not a great cultural match with all the state schools. What's nice about the first four, IMO, is that they are all respectable schools with market clout but they wouldn't alter the balance of football power too much. I mean, adding texas and ou would turn the SEC into a bigger monster conference than it already is--but good grief that would make our football challenge 40 percent greater than it is now--and of course that isn't going to happen. The SEC doesn't need clemson at all. I can't see va. tech coming either. Texas a&M, kansas and missouri make a lot of sense to me.

No.

*My inside sources tell me that it's not happening, in either regard.

*For the sake of transparency, I think it's important to note that I consider my own wishful thoughts to be an, "inside source".

SEC already has the Atlanta market with UGA. I'd say they will probably go after Miami, FSU, A&M, and possibly Clemson. I'd say A&M and at least one of the two Florida schools are a given, IMO.

I would love for Texas and Texas A&M to come to the SEC, but it won’t happen. They will go to the PAC-10 or whatever the number will be. The reason why is best summed up by a Bobby Bowden quote from a few years back. “I want to pick my own patsies”. Why come to the SEC where they won’t dominate year in and year out. Don’t get me wrong they would do well, but they would have their down years as well.

In the PAC-10 the only long term threat up to this time would be USC. Now I know that Oregon, Cal and UCLA among others I’m sure seem to be getting better, but I’m looking over the last 10 years or so.

Between having to play Bama and LSU yearly and then the occasional Florida game, the road out west would be much easier for them.

Again I would love for them to join the SEC, but I don’t think that they would be looking for the more challenging path.

wow, based on the times of your posts about it, that was one quick meeting this morning

I'm reading that right now. In my ideal, getting TAMU, TCU (to join the West) and Florida St., Miami (Fl) (to join the East) would be the dream scenario should the SEC expand.

Now, if it could be Texas instead of TCU, that would be so epic it'd be unfair to the other conferences. But, I don't see much reason for Texas to join the SEC. I think they'd rather become Independent like ND instead, but the Pac 10/Big 12 merger (which is essentially what it'd be) and the money that's on the table will probably win out.

But TCU, while smaller and less prestigious, is located in Ft. Worth. Getting the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, which is one of the biggest markets in the United States, would be major. TAMU is, I believe, the 2nd biggest university in Texas, and is about maybe 1 and a half hours away from Houston, another major market. TAMU and TCU would provide a concrete SEC foothold in Texas, bring in major TV money, and get SEC teams in front of eastern Texas high school students (which would benefit a school like UT greatly, as they have to recruit nationally).

I don't want to expand just to expand, but if we did and keeping my expectations realistic, then TAMU, TCU, FSU, and Miami are the ones I'd hope for the most. TAMU would probably be the top "get" among the 4.

Some people have talked about there's a chance that Texas very well might join a conference like the pac-10 for a few to several years and then, when they have enough of a firmer base, still become independent

still just speculation though

Not to mention they'd hardly have to travel to "heathen liberal destinations" that often (or whatever people think they're calling it) with the divisional set-up.

A&M and Texas don't have to go to the same conference. But they still would play each other every year. Would be like a UGA/GT thing

We dont have to, but its better if we do. How would you like to play Texas every year as one of your OOC games?
