SEC Expansion (merged)

good article:

One high-placed OU source indicated to The Oklahoman that the Sooners were headed West.

"Load up on your sunscreen,” the source said, referring to the sunny climates of Pac-10 cities.

According to orangebloods.com, Texas athletic director Deloss Dodds met with university coaches Wednesday to tell them efforts made to save the Big 12 were unsuccessful.

Officials from Texas and Texas A&M are expected to meet Thursday to make sure they are on the same page about the next step, which is believed to be a relocation to the Pac-10. Oklahoma State athletic director Mike Holder declined comment on the Pac-10. Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione did not return phone calls to The Oklahoman.

Several outlets, including the Los Angeles Times, reported the Pac-16 (or whatever it ends up being called) would begin competition in 2012.

Imagine abunch of farm boys and ROTC guys rolling into Berkley. Good fun.

As long as those hippies shower before they come to Kyle Field, make use of the restroom facilities while they're here, and stay away from the trees, Im good. Oh, and there is a strict "NO BONG" policy in Kyle.

Yeah A&M won't go anywhere without Texas....They will both go to the same conference

It seems like it would be beneficial for the two to be in separate conferences. That way A&M would be somewhat removed from the shadow of UT Austin, and it could be very beneficial to A&M's recruiting.

Just read on TMZ (sue me) that OU is leaving for the Pac-whatever it is now.

actually they are saying OSU

to rip off a guy on the cal board:

the tech chancelor has already said the 3 texas schools have agreed to stay together.

Van Pelt reports "'from a source inside the SEC' that VT and TAMU are close to joining the conference."

strange this conflicts this:

Tech official: Big 12 breaking up | Red Raiders

Tech Chancellor Kent Hance declined to comment about a possible move to the Pac-10, but he did say the three “sister schools” have forged strong athletic ties to each other. He also said official word of Nebraska’s defection wouldn’t surprise him.

“I’ve said for a long time that if that were to happen, Texas Tech will be in the best position possible, and I think we will be,” Hance said, reiterating his hopes to keep the Big 12 together. “We have got commitments with the University of Texas and Texas A&M to go in the same direction — if we stay or whatever, then that’s pretty well been our commitment and their commitment.”

How would it help recruiting? Instead of Major Applewhite, Mack Brown, and Bob Stoops, we'd get to recruit against Saban and Meyer? Yeahhhhhh, that's muuuuuch better. Dont try to convince me that going to the SEC would be "the best thing" for us. Its not.

Yall cant get Texas to come.
We dont need to play them every year in a OOC game.
Im not interested in becoming Ole Miss West campus.
We wont use the methods of recruiting so we could compete.
Its a bad deal. It'd be fun having yall over every other year, but I dont need to see us get our arses handed to us by Bama at home to feel good that I can say "Well, atleast we're in the SEC." We lost to Arkansas and Georgia last year. That should open a few eyes.

Furthermore, Texas will not dominate the Pac whatever. They wont. They cant. Top 3 or 4, yes, but not #1 hands down every year. The recruiting will be more of an even keel when they have to go up against California's schools. That being said, our chances of maintaining a competitive rivalry with them is much greater. Inshort, texas wants the money, and their greed is allowing them to overlook the competitive advantage they have over the rest of the Big12 now.

I'll take my chances against AZ, and AZ St. if you tell me by doing so, I'll have a better shot when I go into Austin every year and face a 2 loss Texas team, rather than a 10-0 team. Ruining their national title hopes is fun and all, but I'd rather just have a shot to beat every year instead of hoping to pull off an upset once in a while.

Everything I've read about A&M joining the SEC depends on Governor Perry and the Texas legislature. That is if we even extend a formal invite. Also I've heard VT said they don't want to join the SEC...

I’ve never heard Van Pelt report anything besides this, I have no idea if he is credible or not. Just repeating what I heard on his show a few minutes ago.

ChipBrownOB RT @thatsean: Oklahoma AD Joe Castiglione confirmed to the Tulsa World that the SEC has shown interests, but that OU will follow Texas.

Everything I've read says Texas is going to the Pac-whatever it is, first I've heard of them going to the Big Ten. Interesting that OU is petitioning for membership.

I have seen a couple of beat writers citing the same or similar rumblings. Starting to make the rounds on twitter also.

The other was Texas and OU to the Big Ten and A&M to the SEC

Tim Brando tweeted this-- A&M and Horns in conversations as we speak.Texas has decision to make regarding their own Network. No problem w/SEC.Potential problem wPAC10

so it's probably far fetched, but the Jayhawk Brand seems to be entirely too valuable for the SEC to pass up. The most storied basketball school (arguably) with a fair football program just dangling out there, ripe for the picking?

Throw in your choice of of Mizzou and K St. and a 14 team league could be just a moderate expansion, somewhat doable for the traditionalists.

Or, do that and throw in 2 ACC schools from the Atlantic seaboard and you could easily realign to the East and West.
