SEC Network got another provider

I think Dish got it in a larger deal with Disney (which includes ESPN vis-à-vis SEC Network). In exchange Dish agreed to disable their AutoHopp (AKA The Hopper) comercial skipping tech for three weeks after a program airs from those networks.

There was also some internet streaming deal involved that sounded promising for the future of streaming Live broadcasts.

I think that was ESPN3 which will help me go my grandson's games.

Dish network sucks imo! I will never have a contract for my cable again. For my cell phone either.

I had Diret and switched to Dish And I love Dish. I would not switch back.

Always been a Dish guy...easy to use and reasonably priced...am going to threaten to drop it so I can get a free Hopper upgrade and packaging for six months :)

Mediacom better get their butts in gear. They will lose so many subscribers in the south if they don't make this happen.

As a Dish family I'm VERY glad to know that we will have the SEC Network! Hopefully it's like the BTN and has more than one channel for football season! I know it won't always have marque match ups but for a Vol fan living in Indiana I'll take all the extra games and SEC action I can get!

What channel # is the LHN for Dish?

I told directv that I would drop them if they didn't carry sec network. They tried to give me free genie and premium channels. This would extend my contract so that it would be harder for me to drop them. I declined.

I'm in email and soon, phone contact with DirecTV. My issue is the escalating monthly payments that have climbed close to $100 for Basic Choice. Plus what I call underhanded tactics to suck more money from customers. I suspect part of the problem is that my Basic Choice deal is TOO good. Based on packages they sell now. I suspect if I call them, possibly another tactic will be to try to talk me into accepting a seriously diluted program package. And to get what I'm accustomed to having, I'd be nickeled and dimed to death. When I signed up 3 years ago, it was a 180 channel deal for $25/mo 1st year and $29.98/mo the 2nd year. Regular pricing thereafter ($54/mo).

Periodically, they sneak stuff like STARZ into your billing as a "temporary" or 'trial" programming for 3/mos or so. If you don't "call" to ask removal it becomes regularly billed and you're locked in. It doesn't matter if from the get go you tell them you don't want it. calls, if you do that end up being marathon affairs to convince you to keep it and take even more programming. My tolerance for such tactics is ZERO.

I've advised them DISH has been after me with very low packaging prices. Wanting to win me back as I was a DISH customer for 10/yrs before going DirecTV. Told them I'm tempted and lately DISH has advised me they're carrying the SEC Network. And this may make me finally accept their deal.

DirecTV's rep's response:

Thank you for writing back. Your email reached me in DIRECTV’s email department. My name is Camille and I understand that you do not want Starz Super Pack and you would like to know if we will add SEC Network on our channel lineup. It also saddens me to hear that you are considering to switch providers because of our new pricing.

Normally, we require you to speak with a customer service representative to remove a premium channel. Since you are not watching this free premium channel, I can make a one-time exception and remove Starz Super Pack for you. Because DIRECTV bills you for service at the start of your billing period, any changes you make mid month, such as removing a service, will show as partial month credits from the day you made the change to the end of the 30 day billing period. The change to your account will be reflected on your next DIRECTV bill, or you can see it immediately by signing into your DIRECTV account online at directv.com. After signing into your account, select "Billing And Transactions" on the right-hand side and then click on "Recent Activity" on the left-hand side.

(My name), we strongly believe every SEC fan should have access to the SEC Network on DIRECTV and customers can rest assured that is our goal as we continue our discussions with the owners of the channel. Contract talks happen on a different timetable with each TV provider, so unlike our competitor, we have really just begun our discussions and hope to have an update on status as we move closer to the network's launch in August. For more information please visit directvpromise.com.

We know you have a choice when it comes to programming providers, and we must work hard to earn your business. We'd like to speak with you to see how we can help you and show you why DIRECTV is the best choice in-home entertainment. Please call us at 1-800-531-5000 from 8:00 AM to 1:00 AM ET daily, as speaking with one of our specialists is the most efficient way to discuss your options, and to make sure you are receiving the best value for your money.

Thanks again for writing, (my name). I hope that you will consider keeping your service, so we can continuously provide you with the very best in digital home entertainment for years to come.

Sincerely,

What makes you say that? You really think DirecTV would screw up and lose such a high profile channel and ultimately be the only major provider without it?

Others have posted that it doesnt look good -- maybe they pay to much for the NFL Ticket IDK?

If I may be so bold, I suggest a customer tactic to protect yourself from trapped payments and other final vampire draining if or when you opt out. You must commit to a 24/mo contract and have a credit qualification on sign up. This means you submit your credit card information. My suggestion is, when the 2nd year contract is nearing fulfillment, say 6 mos prior, ask your card vendor to discontinue your card and issue you a new one. Why? More than once in Las Vegas, I sought to discontinue a service. After some back and forth, they spite charged my card for yet another year's service yet discontinued the service. Excuse was it paid the previous year service (false). Or had an excessive disconnect fee charged. Getting it back is a long term ordeal. But if that card used at sign up is dead, you win. Just stuff I learned the hard way. However, if you've been paying them via automatic payments, ohhhh boy. All I can say once some business are allowed to crawl into your pocket, the burrow in for a permanent residency. Don't give them the chance.

What "others" say is often not what is really happening. It is still early in the negotiation process. Everyone is just getting excited for no reason.

It is still early.

Hope so but -- sooner is better --- 4 months goes by fast

Dear Charter:

Do NOT even think about NOT picking up the SEC Network. Not after supplying me with 70-80 channels that I have absolutely no use for, including the BigTen Network.

How people use anything other than Dish or DirecTV is beyond me. All I do is threaten to leave because I can get a better deal somewhere else and they drop price.

That works if you live in an area where there are several competitors. But if you live in an area where there is only one or two, you're out of luck.

I had cable problems today so I had to call comcast and while I was sitting on the phone I asked the guy if they were going to get the sec network and he replied that there was no doubt in his mind that they are going to pick it up and that it would be in the preferred package because of its affiliation with espn just thought I would send the word

Hope your right

While I was talking to directv they asked who I was a fan of. After telling them the big orange I was asked if I hated Bama, I told him I answered that when I answered the first question. He asked why, I told him because it's the law. Buck Fama.

Comical thread. Direct will get the SEC network. Those that switch to others please post in this thread in a year and let me know how you feel about the switch.
