clock is ticking Comcast --- get the SEC N you idiots

All I can get is KomKast and I know I'll be paying out the arse. Bastards have the area sewn up. Sat is out of the question (trees). I basically pay $180 a month for 3-4 channels + internet. Been begging, writing the FCC, even wrote a few of these worthless Tennessee politicians about komkasts practices. I knew I was pissing up a rope but it felt good to ***** at tennessee's so called finest.

FWIW - OTA viewing is the absolute best pic quality. PBS - Nova in particular - rivals quality BD material. The sats and kable kompanies compression is horrible.

Called Comcast this weekend (I'm in Knoxville), this is how that conversation went.

Me: Is Comcast going to be picking up the SEC Network?

Rep: Is that a fighting channel?

Me: No, it is the South Eastern Conference Network, a sports channel.

Rep: Let me look it up and get a supervisor.

Few minutes later.

Rep: What does SEC stand for?

Me: South Eastern Conference. It doesn't come available till August.

On hold again.

Rep: It looks like we used to carry it. Looks like on March 31, 2014 it was canceled due to low ratings.

I just said thank you and hung up, lol.

Calling your local office is not going to do anything, just spinning your wheels. They are not trained to take your request because you're not requesting a channel that actually exists.

The form that you can fill out at GetSECNetwork.com goes directly to the inbox of the programming department of your provider.

Direct TV lady at Sams Club said they would be announcing it this summer.

Think about it, Direct TV would lose $ on that deal before losing subscribers. I'm holding out a little longer.

Direct TV is content with 20 Mil Customers. They lose half (10 Mil) a year and gain 10 Mil a year. They are idiots and could care less about retention. They don't mind the turnover.

Maybe the AT&T buyout will change all this but for now it is turnover city in that organization.

Do you still think Comcast picks it up (and before the season starts)?

I have been with Comcast for over 30years.

I get over 200 channels and HBO with Internet at 57mbps down and 10-16mbps up (that's fast) I own my own cable modem and pay $94 a month tax and all.

I seriously doubt you are paying what you are, but if you are you simply need to call the customer retention dept and work out a better deal.

Comcast has always been good to me with good service and decent people to talk too over the phone.

They get a bad and unfair rap on these boards.

I actually was just calling them to see what my bill would be if I dropped TV and just kept the internet. I figured I would ask about the network channel while I was on the phone.

The conversation was just gold though.

I pay $145 right now with tv/internet/phone. They quoted me a couple days ago at $225 for just tv/Internet. Was $70 for just internet.

Been with Comcast about 10 years

the trick is to call and ask for the customer retention dept. They can offer you better deals, can offer you the same deals they offer new customers and can even make custom deals.

just tell them that you have been a customer for 10 years and you saw them offer xyz deal for new customers and you would like a better deal.

Yeah we do that probably once a year it seems. They raised my bill from $180 to $230 last year, I had all 4 of their services. Got them down to $165 after calling. I dropped down to triple play to get to the $145

Warning: Reply will be wordy.
Acknowledgment: vols4evan's response farther down is very good advice. Probably your best chance for better reception and maybe less cost per month.
Personal Comment: I for one don't doubt what you're paying per month as I've seen my own and others monthly charge climb into the $100+ realm.

Commentary: I recently discontinued DTV and will not subscribe to cable again anytime soon. Was going to go with DISH until they lied. Told me their special offer 1.5 month ago was a 12 month deal not requiring a 24 month contract. When I was in the process of choosing, I saw the little statement about a 24/month contract required to get the (at the time) $22.99 190 channel selection. I asked about it and got the biggest BS answer I've heard in years.

So now have OTA via MOHU HD antenna. Pulling in 25 channels. Am waiting for a Channel Master CM-7001 HDTV Antenna and Clear QAM Cable Tuner to jack up the reception even more.

I first took TWC up on a 12 month deal for their EXTREME Internet connection. They really meant 12 months unlike DISH, the offer stood. Of course I had to also get a DOCSIS 3.X modem and a Netgear AC1900 Nighthawk router. The 5mhz band shoots wireless signals right through the walls to wireless devices I connect.

Then got a ROKU 2 with myriad free channels and drowning in movies I can watch, though I'm not exactly a movie maniac except for plausible sci fi flicks. Si fi that's based on actual scientific principles that is.

And, I discovered with much web crawling, at least two avenues free and one by subscribing to a connection for a mere pittance of a fee to watch Vols games this fall free. I won't post it here so as to avoid having the programming business getting wind of it and shutting down the option. However, there are old standbys like Firstrow, WigiWiz and others.

So, I'm cable free and look to be able to enjoy cable-like reception almost totally free. You may opt to take my route, or not.

yeah I have to do it once a year also, I had the triple play and just dropped it down to internet/tv with free hbo to get down to $94. and that price is because I bought my own cable modem and save $7 a month got the modem on sale for $39.99 at tiger direct works like a charm.

Zyxel DOCSIS3 Comcast Residential Cable Modem - RJ-45, 10/100/1000Mbps, IEEE802.3, 802.3u, USB 2.0, (c) at TigerDirect.com

In that case, will post the results of the TV tuner when I get it and set it up. I can tell you that ROKU has channels to let me see local news in almost any major city in the USA, plus some overseas connections. But it's Vols game we care most about so am anxious for the season to start so I can put the other stuff to test on that.

Believe me, I'd love to tell you guys. Especially since many VN'ers have been so generous with me about various things in the past. But as I explained, the broadcasting business like casino and lottery officials find out how we little people achieve something then institute measures to either shut it down or manipulate it to suck more money from our pockets. Giving the info here will find its way to them one way or another. BUT let me find out that SEC games, Vols games specifically are accessible as claimed. Have to wait til season starts. Once proven, I will figure out a way to share the info with fans who are also ROKU and online viewers. Hopefully, without it being blabbed all over and coming to the attention of the greedy broadcasters who would shut it down or invoke measures to monetarily exploit users.

By no means do I want to defend Comcast, but you're dealing with an hourly customer service rep thats probably barely been trained to answer the phone and little else. Not everyone is as sports-centered as SEC fans.

You're crazy if you think Direct/Comcast/et al haven't heard of the SECN or aren't aware of their customer's desires to get it.

Going through the SEC website and sending one of their emails is probably infinitely more effective than calling one of their admittedly terrible phone service reps.

show SEC Nation was revealed today in Nashville, Tenn., at the Music City Sports Festival. Previously announced host Joe Tessitore and analyst Tim Tebow will be joined each week by talk radio provocateur Paul Finebaum and former LSU and NFL star, Marcus Spears. The SEC Network is a new 24/7 sports network launching August 14 and operated by ESPN in conjunction with the Southeastern Conference.

Finebaum and Spears’ additional roles with the network were announced earlier this year including Finebaum’s daily radio show (2 – 6 p.m. ET) and Spears’ football analyst role for the network’s year-round football coverage.

“Our SEC Nation team encompasses the veteran voices our fans expect and insider knowledge they deserve. Paul and Marcus bring a variety of experiences that will complement Joe and Tim, providing viewers with a high-caliber, full view of SEC matchups each week,” said Stephanie Druley, vice president, production for college networks.

Also, more sites for SEC Nation’s early season schedule were revealed adding to the previously announced appearances at South Carolina on August 28 and Auburn on August 30. The show will begin its September slate in Nashville, Tenn., home to Vanderbilt University and travel to all 14 SEC schools by season’s end. The schedule:

Hundreds of additional live events from various sports will be offered exclusively on the digital platform.
