Second round of stimulus; gamesmanship

If you can't see the destruction that Trump's lies, ambivalence and lack of a national plan have caused than you are simply not paying attention. To think otherwise is intellectually dishonest.
Let's make sure that everyone votes for Biden so they can rub his 'blonde' leg hair by the pool and "Corn Pop" gets his ass kicked by Biden. And democrats think republicans are stupid.

So tomorrow is the self-imposed deadline. Very interesting political situation.

Dems want $600 unemployment benefit to continue. Seems the WH was willing to go along with that for awhile, but then changed their position because the Senate wanted it to be $200, then to 70% wage replacement. Don't know how they would manage to calculate that - I saw some commentary the states would have to do it. That's a nightmare here in Florida as our system broke down early on in the virus just processing regular claims. Also negotiating points about liability, foreclosure moratorium, etc.

Trump has threatened to take executive action if Congress cannot get it done. Some thinking that it is a negotiating ploy as it is doubtful he has the authority to do so. I imagine some are hopeful that scenario occurs so he can claim credit for doing what Congress could not. On the flip side, I doubt GOPers at risk are a fan of looking inept and needing Trump to save the day.

A lot of moving parts to this one.

Then aren't you glad we got this guy!

For anyone that lives in Knox or Blount counties, they have been "rebuilding" Alcoa highway now for about 20 years. It seems like they just move dirt from one place to another and back again.
This is true..... my dad owned a construction crew.... his crew would have had it done in a few months..... you can barely see any progress

Yeah, so it's starting to look like the Dems aren't gonna bend on the proposed CARES Act part 2. No surprise IMO. Trump has dug himself into a hole w/roughly 65% of people already believing that he is not handling the CV19 crisis well. So, no movement on the bill = people still blame Trump.

Plus, check out the GOP situation - roughly 20 Senators don't want to spend ANY more money on pandemic relief.

So, if the two sides give up today, that potentially leaves us with Trump trying to legislate relief by Executive Order.

This, of course, will lead to lawsuits challenging his authority (I mean, why are Dems and GOP negotiating if Trump can already do all of this already via EO?).

Net/Net = Gridlock and no further relief.

Per WaPO:

"Although Democrats have rejected the idea that Trump could spend money without Congress’s approval, the Trump administration has asked federal agencies to identify all of the money they have not yet spent from the Cares Act. White House officials are trying to determine whether this money could be redirected and used for other purposes, such as temporary unemployment benefits.

One of the biggest sticking points remains what to do on aid for states and cities. Democrats want around $1 trillion in state and local aid, but Trump has dismissed that demand as a “bailout” for mismanaged states, and the administration put $150 billion on the table earlier this week.

In addition to the divide over unemployment aid, Democrats are pushing for money for food stamps and child care. The two sides are also arguing about money for schools and the Postal Service. Republicans have sought to link some of the school money to schools reopening, which Democrats oppose. There is a dispute about pensions, and other issues also remain unresolved.

McConnell has repeatedly acknowledged the divisions in his own conference, with some 20 GOP senators reluctant to spend any more money at all after Congress already approved four bipartisan bills in March and April totaling around $3 trillion. McConnell is not taking an active part in the talks and has said he’ll support any deal the administration officials and Democrats are able to reach. He left the Capitol long before Thursday night’s meeting broke up."

I know everyone complains about road construction, but we have some of the most sluggish road construction contractors around here. I can think of one company in particular, who basically has a monopoly on all work around here. I work construction, and I swear I could take a few ironworkers and finish up these 3 year long projects in half the time.

Actually atlanta road crews are great. They'll get stretches done at night. Never interrupt daytime traffic.

If you know the work at the 75/24 split in Chattanooga and how fast that seems to be going it's because that's an Atlanta contractor, Matthew's, out there. I would bet dollars vs pennies they get down on time. Even money for finishing early.

With the caveat for natural disasters or something out of their hands.

There's the gamesmanship. McConnell setting up the "I was willing to go along with whatever the two sides came up with but the Dems wanted too much for those evil Dem states" excuse; Trump does exec order with a few treats in it for his base, hurts the Dems, and says "I had to step in because the Dem controlled House couldn't get it done."

They just don't care about real people at all.

Well... they are. They think they accomplished something by replacing corruption with immoral, incompetent, and corrupt. Worse yet, they’re too vain to admit their mistake.

No THEY do not. The sooner you realize this hopefully the sooner you stop dying on every Dem hill out there.

The Republicans and Trump were never serious about a deal. Trump desperate for any kind of victory, even staged.
LOL, I somewhat hope Biden wins, so I can see you scrutinize Biden like you do Trump, but EVERYONE on this board knows you will NOT!!

I wasn’t kidding when I said I hope they take all three . They can’t run , hide or deflect blame then , it will be all on there shoulders . The immediate 360 spin from blaming Trump for everything to making excuses for Biden and the liberal party will cause a few necks to snap . It’s going to be fun to watch . I’m guessing the daily whataboutisms at +50

If you saw Season 3 of House of Cards you know how cutting $44 billion from FEMA in the middle of Hurricane season works out.
