Selby and Harris News.

Come on. Gt is better than that on both front. Cremins had it rolling: Anderson, Scott, Dalrymple, Price etc. They also shared a national title in football with BYU not terribly long ago.

IDK about you but 20 years ago was pretty far back :p

My God, this thread went to hell.

Oklahoma has an inferior football tradition, Georgia Tech doesn't care about football, and Tennessee could never be both a basketball and football school...

It's a self-written insult. Three separate fan bases from three separate conferences are laughing at this crap.

Anyone who can't agree that UT will never be a basketball school, Oklahoma is one of two programs in the entire nation with a signifiant history in football and basketball, and GT allowed Rudey Ruetigger to sack its quarterback know nothing about sports. Oklahoma and Ohio State are the only schools in the nation who can claim their men's basketball and football teams have more tradition the UT's.

As long as UT continues to extend its winning streak over UK in football, you should not try to argue about sports with me.

When did he ever try to argue that UK's football program was superior to UT's?

I believe the question is which team has a more storied history, not which team is "better" or plays in a "better" conference. The SEC has not always been the dominant machine that it is now. I like UT much more than Oklahoma. Love UT football actually.... But OU has the history. Some numbers:

UT stat guru's, if any of these are wrong please correct. Internet stats are not always correct.

National Titles
Oklahoma- 7 (4 since 1970)
Tennessee- 4 (2 since 1950)

All time wins ( as of DEC 5 2008)
Oklahoma- 791
Tennessee- 775

Conference Titles
Oklahoma- 34*
Tennessee- 13 SEC titles 6 SEC east titles

* the 34 titles represents BIG12 titles AND division titles all in one.

If you don't want to concede that OU has a bigger history, then at least call them equal.

Edit: its also ridiculous to be discussing this in a basketball thread that got hi-jacked.

Look at the overall records. They are pretty close and UT has played in a tougher conference year in year out.

Actually, UT's football program is/was a big recruiting tool for basketball. That is until UT's basketball team starting having a higher seasonal winning percentage than its football team

I'm not trying to argue with you imbecile, I gave you specific facts which are nailed in concrete. Thats not an arguement.

Furthermore, deflecting the debate totally by bringing up UK football history shows that you have no interest whatsoever in talking or debating rationally, and are completely inept and void of any form of intelligent conversation, as EVERYONE in this thread has already noted. Get out of your parents basement and see the world.

You are now on my ignore list as well. Have fun.

Good luck against Vanderbilt this year in football.

Why does Calapari being at Kentucky make him a better coach? Pearl beat Memphis twice in the last 3 years, did he not?

You might want to look at his roster this year. That should help answer your question.

This is thread is too funny btw! lol ...but anyways, Calapari at Memphis and Calapari at Kentucky are two different animals! Calapari made Memphis, while Kentucky has the history and the championships to go along with his excellent coaching resume.

I mean I am like most Vol fans, I ABSOLUTELY HATE Calapari, but you got to admit he's good at what he does! ...And Pearl is definitely on the hot seat this year with with Calapari coming in to Lexington guns ablazin'. Moreover, with T. Smith, J.P. Prince, and Chism out the door after this year its going to be a true test for Pearl--on the court and the recruiting trail.

I guess all we can do is grab some popcorn and see if he'll prove his haters wrong (or right).....

What in the world does that have to do with ANYTHING? Letting a scrub sack their QB in the final moments of a game that was long over means GT has no meaningful football tradition? How old are you, 12?

Hey UT lost to a 3 win Memphis team on national TV in 1996 that knocked them out of a major bowl, and it's considered one of the biggest upsets ever. I guess that means UT's football program sucks too.

Besides, you changed the argument. You started everything by stating GT fans don't care about their football program, and once again, no matter how you spin it, that's flat out false, because GT is a football school first. Nobody has said one freakin' word about GT having more tradition or a better program. You changed it into that argument.

Geez....

The Rudy comment was a joke. I reviewed and agreed with whoever said GT has a good football tradition but not as good at UT's. Furthermore, my argument was simply seperating all schools into two categories, one being basketball programs and the other football. UT is a football school and no matter what Hatvol thinks he knows, this won't change. The best we can hope for is to become a football/basketball school. This is doubtful because Knoxville's geographic location is not well suited to attract great players in both sports.

ADMH can't fire BP for not getting us past the sweet 16. How could MH fire a coach who has acheived more than any other UT basketball coach in its tradition? If we stop making the tourney and then become irrelevant in SEC play, then the firing of BP is possible.

All great teams get upset. Appalacian state beat Michigan, UK was upset by Garner webb and VMI.

My use of the ignore function made this thread far more intelligent when I view it now.

I wouldn't describe those particular teams as "great." Those teams were on serious down years when they lost those games.

No, you are wrong. Michigan rebounded from the Appalachian St. loss to win the National Championship. Tennessee's overwhelming tradition sucked up all memories of that season like a black hole.

Had General Neyland decided not to leave UT to volunteer to fight for America, UT probably has the greatest athletic tradition of any school ever.

To be far "more" intelligent means that it was intelligent before you used the ignore function.

Alright MTT2D, this is getting very annoying.

I have issues with posters on here as well. Some are just outright hypocrites and/or dillholes. Some are intellectual, some are not. Some have class. Some don't. Some can't even spell class.

However - give it up. You are picking an argument with absolutely everyone on here. What's even worse, is your arguments really suck. You keep flip-flopping around. You have transformed this thread into perhaps one of the dumbest threads on this board.

I'm losing IQ points with every one of your posts. Lord knows I don't have many to spare!

My head is now hurting.
Tradition wise - Yes Tennessee has a great tradition in football (not so much recently, but still). Basketball - Tenn has a tradition, but i'd shy away from stating its great. Plenty of schools have tradition in one or both. Big Deal. To speculate on if Neyland had never left is ridiculous. He left. Tradition is what it is. Get over it.

Your finest post, pandamonium.

Matt, I am guessing you're a minor after your second to last post.
