Seniors may not even try against Vandy

There are people in the media that believe Bray will shut it down against Vandy so he doesn't have to go to a low end bowl. The people who say this state he just wants his career here to end, along with a few others, and losing to Vandy seals him not having to see Dooley past the Kentucky game.

To a certain degree, I can't blame him if true.

What say you guys?

Will Bray and team come out with a careless attitude against Vandy?

I've heard rumors of past UT teams, who were more powerful, being upset by being in the Peach Bowl, & not giving 100%, but this seems far-fetched. Shutting it down in the season so you don't have to play for a certain coach anymore seems a ridiculous stretch. Anyone starting these rumors has no life. That said, I agree with 2nd poster, that if true, f em.

I think all the players will give their all for Tennessee amidst this horrible carousel and beat the dog ***t out of Vandy!! It's only right.

I hope we do! But, if we don't find a defense somewhere before game time it's not going to happen.

This is an absolute ignorant post. Obviously you have never put football pads on, or been a part of any type of team. (unless computer game based) When you put your heart into something for years and you love playing the game. You just don't decide to go out there and not try. They know the last part of their football career (with the exception of Dallas Thomas, and maybe Roger Prentiss..) is coming to an end. When you are with a group of guys 4 years, putting in sweat, blood, and tears. All the emotions it takes to compete at any level past 10 yrs old. You want to go out with an absolute BANG!! My semi pro team last year finished the season playing the eventual national champs, we had 16 guys. They had 53. We were tied up 16-16 at half time but eventualy lost. So I know what it is like to face the battle these seniors are facing only they have a TON of scrutiny. I say encourage our Athletes, Fire Dooley, and move on. GO VOLS

If you "Don't blame them for shutting down" then you have never played. Or if you were on a team you never saw the field and probably just bitter about it.

Couple of things:
1) Seniors are the ones that will be playing the hardest, they don't want to go out as loosers.
2) If Bray, Hunter, and even CP are smart and they don't plan on coming back next year, they better play their a** off for the NFL folks that are watching.

Last year I don't think the Sr's. shut it down against Vandy or KY, I think one person who is no longer with the team shut it down against KY (and probably other games).

I'm 18 years old. But yes, I look around at people my age and even those older and am ashamed a lot of the time. Honest to goodness though, I am so so proud of this team and their attitude. And to Dooley's credit, I think he is genuinely proud of them too...All this talk about him throwing them under the bus but you see it in his eyes that he's proud of them. They won't quit.

Thank goodness. There is still hope for the future of our Nation.

I hope they don't but I could see them just not going all out and seeing where the cards fall.

I think these guys are a little shell shocked and beat down mentally.

It all comes down to attitude. It they wants to beat Vandy, they will. They did last year and and the odds of winning last years were lower than this year. I expect a win Saturday, as well as against UK.

Where do people come up with this garbage. As much as you fans hate Dooley, most of the players on the team really like him. Sorry if that hurts your feelings.

To say these kids will come out and not try is sickening. We don't see everything that they go through on a day to day basis. As a coach my self I know what it takes for my program to compete and how it feels to reach our goals and also how it feels to not reach them. These guys have been through so much this season. I have never seen a team get so close so many times and fail to break through. Take it easy on saying they won't try and do not care. They care, they care more than we will ever know.

The thread title is deceptive. I feel for the senior class. These guys have been through the ringer. The man that recruited them is long gone. They have had multiple coaches during their time at Tennessee and they have had to live through the media circus the whole time. Say that Lathers and Rodgers won't try is an insult. Bray is a junior and the kid has had an attitude since day one in Knoxville. C.P. is going to bolt but he too is a junior. Hunter is protecting himself ala Jamal Lewis. The title of the thread should read "Are the Juniors going to quit?"

No way, a competitor wants to win always. If this is true, then we have a team of non-competitors and that is our problem.

Him giving up is a bunch of crap. Can I see it with his attitude...yes if being honest. Just don't think it'll happen.

When it boils down to it though CDD needs to get to a bowl game to have any chance at all of saving his job. Like it or not but that's the case. Not saying he saves it with a bowl game just saying if there is any chance he needs to win the next 2 games and the bowl game. I'm sure if he feels that Bray isn't getting it down or any other players he'll replace them. Put in Worley, heck burn Petermans redshirt what does he have to lose?!?!?! Our O needs to score big this game and that's it. They should have more pts on the board each game and just haven't done it.

I think it's silly to think the players won't be trying hard.

Everyone is playing for their own memories, this is their one and only college football career that they have worked most of their lives to achieve. Plus, many have only been to one bowl game and I'm sure would like to go to another.

Also for some there is the chance to impress NFL scouts or the new incoming coaching staff. They may not be as enthused as they have been for some games, but I'm sure everyone will be giving it their full effort.

Would not necessarily be surprising... but if he plays poorly vs Vandy coupled with his repeated chokes this year... it will hurt his draft status.

I CAN blame him. You don't choose your circumstances. Champions react differently than chumps though.

Bray can blame Dooley all he likes... but Dooley has MORE reason to blame Bray. Granted, putting games and the season in a guy's hands is a big deal. But Bray was Dooley's best option considering how bad the D was and the lack of a dominating RB. So he did. How did Bray respond?

Got wild (choked) vs UF when the game was still winnable.

Consecutive turnovers with a chance to win vs UGA.

Choked vs MSU.... and Mizzou.... and USCe.

Bama had him rattled the whole game.

Dooley was trapped. The only guy who could really save him was Bray... and he didn't.

Dooley still has to go. He has not proven he can coach on game day. He has had three years to get the D better... it has regressed instead. However Bray's inability to come through has been a huge factor this year.

FWIW, I doubt Dooley coaches any potential bowl game even if UT makes one. UT needs the new guy in place in time to salvage the recruiting class.
