Serious QB discussion

I can live with Joe not playing very well but starting with the Carolina game he’s beginning to commit uncharacteristic turnovers, albeit that the team has managed to overcome. The coaches are in a tough situation I think. They might be forced to throw Nico to the wolves before he’s ready if this continues.

Nah, barring an injury we're not seeing Nico.

I am going to say, Nico will be ready if needed, but Joe is the QB, he is 5 and 1.
5-1 argument is all played out. His stats debunk thst real fast. Our defense abd running game are winning games. Not joe. Not once has joe put his team on his back and had stellar play to win a game. If anything I’d argue he’s limiting our offense and play calling.

Why do I get the impression some of our fans think Nico is going to step on the field and win a National Championship?
This isn’t about nico for some of us. It’s about joe. How is nico? I don’t know. Hoe is joe? We do know. Do I think we could trot out nico or Moore and get 100yds and an end zone pic? I sure do.

Why do I get the impression Vol fans are afraid of change ? What is the point of recruiting 5-stars is you will not play them. There is a portal out there that they can jump to at any time. Right now we have no idea what Nicco can give us, but I know he can give us what Milton is giving us right now. I think Nicco can give us a 100 yards passing and hand the ball off. Joe's not out here reading defenses and making play calls.

Why do I get the impression that some Vol fans act like we are 1-5 instead of 5-1.

And no one has a clue of what Nico could or couldn't do in any of these games. Him being in the game doesn't automatically make the WR's catch passes they should or get the separation from the defensive backs. Could he just hand off the ball to a RB without fumbling the snap or the handoff, probably.

There is no need to replace the QB when you are 5-1. All this is not a good look for the fan base. If I was a QB recruit I would run far far away from this fan base. No player should have to endure this level of craziness especially when that player is 7-1 over the last 8 games.

Which stats? We have the best run game in the SEC for yards per game, so why take that away. So not sure which part of limiting you’re referring to. Do your stats also incorporate dropped balls or just stats that fit the narrative? He’s not only 5-1, he’s 7-1 since taking over for Hooker who was losing at the time he went down. Currently we are 5th in total offense in the SEC, ahead of Bama at @10. Not sure where the debunk comes in play. I’d venture to say, Nico has a limited playbook which limits the offense.

I agree….but the same guy we watched play today earned a starting nod over Hendon Hooker.

How good can this guy be in practice?!?!
Seems we forget we had a chance to beat Pitt at home and Hooker failed to make the right read on a 4th down. we got stuff instead of a pull for a game go ahead TD inside the 10 around 5 mins left to play.

If we were I-5, with our schedule so far, even Heupel would be gone.

We're 5-1. You can argue Milton hasn't put the team on his back and won ballgames but he's not costing us ballgames.

Every week we hear the same thing: When do we see Nico?

And without seeing Nico we've won, other than FL. How do you pull a QB who isn't making you lose? The answer is: you don't.

You won't see Nico in anything but mop up until Joe Milton starts causing us to lose.
Honest answer. When those around the program is saying “he’s not ready” traditionally that means he’s not ready. Everyone loves the backup QB until they realize why he’s the backup.

Our passing game as a whole isn’t great…we have limited separation and we have too many drops. Enough blame to go around in the passing game not named Milton.

Bru out, Keyton drops and Thornton MIA.

This team is going to go as far as the defense and running game can take them. Joe isn't going to win a game for them. Florida is prime example, oline and running game struggled, Joe folded. He's not elite, outside of arm strength. This has been proven over 6 years, flash the arm talent, wow everyone, back to being inconsistent. WR do have drops but Joe also throws passes 2 feet behind them over half the time. Take the 9 wins we'll get this year and get ready for Nico next year.

I'll put in my two cents for Joe getting to play because hes a senior and putting the time in does count for something.

I’ve said this before but if there was a Harlem Globetrotter team for football then Joe would definitely have a future there.

My point being that a freshman can succeed, especially if he is gifted, as Nico seems to be.
Nico would be able to excel, but coach has a loyalty first to seniority. I think that is obvious.

No way, however, do I believe Nico should start at Bama, but if that is the route coach
took, I believe Nico could hold his own.
And that's based on perhaps 30 minutes of Fingers film, a few snaps in real SEC games, and a scrimmage. Heupel just might have seen more. Just maybe.

If you don't believe our coach knows what he's doing with QBs, just say it. His record suggests otherwise. We've only got a small fraction of the data on Nico and nowhere near the experience Heupel has with QBs.

Who would you believe about QBs? Heupel or me? And what makes you different from me when it comes to seeing Nico?

I really doubt there is anyone left who thinks Milton is the guy to get us any kind of championship. But, other than the very untimely INT he is a stabilizing force and when he does run can do damage with his legs. I guess my question is do we stick with his game management and just give up on the passing game realizing our WRs are not exactly world class either or do we go ahead and give Nico his chance? My honest opinion, while likely to be unpopular, is not to throw Nico into his first start at Tuscaloosa. Start Milton but have Nico ready if our passing game is as impotent as it was tonight. We could try the two QB thing too.
We can/have won with game managers who had less ability than Milton, Tee Martin says hi.

He did have Hooker on the bench. And Hooker is in the NFL and Joe is nowhere near getting drafted that high if at all. That’s just facts.
