Serious QB discussion

He did have Hooker on the bench. And Hooker is in the NFL and Joe is nowhere near getting drafted that high if at all. That’s just facts.
If you don't believe in the coach, say it.

There's nothing wrong with saying that, just say it.

He's 23-6 since he got here and 5-1 this year and 7-1 with Joe Milton as QB.

You're welcome to not like Heupel. Just be plain about what you're saying.

I agree….but the same guy we watched play today earned a starting nod over Hendon Hooker.

How good can this guy be in practice?!?!
Many players are “great” in practice but panic when the lights come on at game time. It’s like hitting a bad first golf shot and then reloading and hitting a perfect shot (bubba shot, lol). There is no pressure on the second golf shot and no pressure in football practice.

Those are facts. Hooker was on the bench for the Pitt game and made a potentially game winning mistake inside the 10. He grew to be an outstanding QB and still lost to SC and UGA on the road. Gave us great wins in Bama and Florida last year.

Joe is not as good as Hooker. Joe started over Hooker.

There is a history of Joe starting over a better QB.

Honest answer. When those around the program is saying “he’s not ready” traditionally that means he’s not ready. Everyone loves the backup QB until they realize why he’s the backup.

Our passing game as a whole isn’t great…we have limited separation and we have too many drops. Enough blame to go around in the passing game not named Milton.

Bru out, Keyton drops and Thornton MIA.
This is really a big part of the problem. Joe makes mistakes, but with the drops and if there weren't the blatent PIs, Joe would have been roughly 15-22 and 180-200 yards Saturday. Joe however, doesn't have a feel for the game like Hooker. He is Just not making the right reads.

Nico can come in, but until we fix the problems on WR or play calling it won't make a big difference. I say play calling, because I want to see Sampson, D. Williams or Wright more involved in the passing game given our issues right now.

Hooker had the benefit of Hyatts speed freeing up others. Many here want to believe the deck is the same when comparing the two.

Dude chill out. It’s not always all or nothing. I can point out a flaw in a coach, without saying I don’t like the coach. He has a history of sticking with starting certain players. Most of the time they are upperclassmen. Fulmer did the same thing.

I’m sure there may be something you don’t like about your spouse or your house. I’m not saying you go divorce your house or sell your spouse. 😁

This off season everyone that knew anything about Tennessee football said if Milton plays great we can be a championship team. If he plays bad we could go 6-6.

He's had his ups and downs, but he proven to be no better than a game manager with a low football IQ. Not everything is his fault, and the coaches aren't benching him for Nico the rest of the year.

Most people can see how complete the rest of the team is this year, and we're struggling in the area the Heupel is known for. Better than average QB play would make us a top 5 team this year.

You're saying almost directly that Heupel is somehow hurting the team purposely by playing Milton. That's a bit much, don't you think?

You're saying he's "tied to Milton" as though he doesn't see anyone else playing QB. That's directly talking about his coaching ability.

We're winning. You're bitching. It makes no sense.

Like I said. I’m pointing out a flaw. We all can improve on something. I’m sorry that this bothers you so much.

Maybe you have a flaw of becoming unhinged when someone points out a flaw in a coach you like. Maybe you can improve that.

It's your delivery, man. You're implying the coach is not playing the best players on purpose. Aren't you?

You're either saying "he can't judge QBs" which is his claim to fame (not yours, I trust) or "he's deliberately hurting the team by playing a QB he knows isn't our best QB."

News flash: I'd like to see more Nico too. I'd like him to have more SEC game time and more snaps too before starting next year. I'm also curious how our offense will look with Nico at the wheel. It's obvious our coach CAN adjust his game to his QB and I wonder what Nico brings that's different from Joe or Hooker and what Coach Heupel will do with him.

Patience, grasshopper. It is not time yet.

I’m typing this slowly so you can understand.

He has a history of starting one QB over another that he should not. That’s all I’m saying. I don’t know how to “deliver” this any other way.

Now is where you can make inferences or put words in my mouth that is incorrect.

But you do you.

Which stats? We have the best run game in the SEC for yards per game, so why take that away. So not sure which part of limiting you’re referring to. Do your stats also incorporate dropped balls or just stats that fit the narrative? He’s not only 5-1, he’s 7-1 since taking over for Hooker who was losing at the time he went down. Currently we are 5th in total offense in the SEC, ahead of Bama at @10. Not sure where the debunk comes in play. I’d venture to say, Nico has a limited playbook which limits the offense.
I swear my YTTV subscription must be different than the satellite or cable most people still use for their sports games. On my screen, what I see is a QB who has issues throwing accurate balls for simple routes like slants. I'm seriously struggling to remember the last time I saw him attempt a basic out route. It's more often than not he completely misses the receiver on vertical routes. His only TD yesterday was a simple rollout with his primary read being a TE running with him in the flat. That's not impressive; that's expected out of high school (or maybe even middle school) QBs.

The point being is that we're playing a limited playbook now. And I'll ask the opposing side again to seriously convince anyone to think so low of Nico that he couldn't come in and run the barebones offense that we've seen being for Milton. Again, the idea that Nico couldn't reach the "standard" of hitting 50% of his throws for barely 100s and throw a nasty INT is absolutely ridiculous and delusional.

It’s his 6th year. Next game it will click. 😁

Let me type slowly.

We are, I think I got it wrong before, 23 - 9 with Josh Heupel coaching at TN. We were ranked #1 at one point last year. We are currently ranked in the top 20. We have lost exactly _-----one-----_ game since Hooker got injured and Joe Milton took over.

What stands out for me is not Heupel's starting Joe over Hooker previously but Coach Heupel creating a team that wins.

You do you.

I remember heupel mentioning the plan wasn’t to redshirt nico. Hasn’t he only played in one game? Looking at the rest of our schedule, I really only see 2 blowout games left. UCONN and Vandy.

Milton is not an elite QB and will never be elite. The piss poor, throw it up for grabs interception at Florida and the freeze up on 4th down against A&M are but 2 examples. Did Nico burn his red shirt status by playing a few downs?
