Serious QB discussion

Another poster that’s happy with the mediocre butch style football. If you can’t see that joe playing like this won’t give us the ability to win the games a Tn program needs to win, then enjoy your mediocrity. We haven’t played a good team yet. We lost to a bad Florida. Stay tuned.
Milton DID NOT CAUSE THAT LOSS. TN played poorly in all phases. Milton did not have a "pull it out for us" performance but all phases of that game were weak.

Milton hasn't lost us a game this year. Milton hasn't won us a game like Hooker did last year (and honestly, he may not be able to do that.)

To replace a player, you need a better player. Again, Heupel and Halzle have both said Nico isn't better.

So what's your suggestion of who to replace Joe?

This seems to be obvious... and a sad state for this team to be in.

Imagine this game with a more effective QB. It's a blow out and not a nail biter.

Yeah, such a sad state to be 5-1.

Some of you are truly pathetic.

People need to stop trying compare this offense to last year’s. Of course there was going to be MASSIVE drop off because of players leaving. Heupel had to adjust his offense and he’s done well with it. Milton causes anxiety but he is doing enough to keep us in each game.

Play like today will be rough to watch in Tuscaloosa but I can tell you if our line plays next week like it did today, Milroe and Company will also be struggling.

I know Joe hasn't lived up to the hype, but today was extra bad even for him. I don't think he will play this bad the rest of the year. Today was just an ugly game period.

Once again, not once have I asked for Nico. I fully believe our coaching staff will play our best chance to win. I’ll say it again if I need to. Our program looks pretty good this year, other than the QB position. I’m just ready for you Milton sunshine pumpers to stop lying to yourself and trying to convince us of the same. We have 1 of the worst QBs in the conference. He has horrible decision making and still can’t lead a simple slant. I’m just ready to see people come to terms with it and stop trying to convince me Joe doesn’t hold this team back. He does.

Please post a link to the interview where Halzle and Heupel said Nico isn't better!

I really doubt there is anyone left who thinks Milton is the guy to get us any kind of championship. But, other than the very untimely INT he is a stabilizing force and when he does run can do damage with his legs. I guess my question is do we stick with his game management and just give up on the passing game realizing our WRs are not exactly world class either or do we go ahead and give Nico his chance? My honest opinion, while likely to be unpopular, is not to throw Nico into his first start at Tuscaloosa. Start Milton but have Nico ready if our passing game is as impotent as it was tonight. We could try the two QB thing too.
I think it's too late to get Nico ready for Bama or Kentucky. We could use the UCONN game to get him ready for UGA. QB situation aside, I really want to see the coaches throw out the lineup and have open competition for the starting wide receiver spots. We've seen lots of signs that Webb and Nimrod are hungrier for playing time than Keyton or Thornton. Let them play.

Just taking a 1000 foot view, the situation with Joe really makes me concerned about Heupel's judgement on the QB position. Remember, Milton was the guy Heupel brought into to be the QB way back in 2021. Hooker only got going in the starting spot because Milton got injured. And Hooker was brought in by the previous staff. Setting aside everything else that's happened, that is a big red flag and does not make me think Heupel is going to move away from Milton unless he absolutely has to. Imagine how the last two years would have gone if Hooker had not taken over the starting spot...

And we don't have a better option and we're still 5-1, correct?

I'm not pumping sunshine. I'm not saying Milton is winning games. I'm not saying Milton is Hooker made over.

I said from the start: we're not replacing him because we're not losing with him AND we don't have a better QB.

How am I sunshine pumping?

I’ve said before that Milton isn’t it, but I think you roll with him and rely heavy on the run and the defensive front seven, and see how far they can take you. Throwing in Nico would be stupid, they’re 5-1. We’ll see Nico for the 24-25 and 25-26 seasons.

He's this generation of Fans "Tee Martin". This team just finds a way to get it done, and that's all that matters.
I was recently looking at Tee's stats from 1998. Florida outgained us 409-64 through the air that game and we still managed to win. We outrushed them 171 - (-13).

If the defense plays like they did today, then I like our chances.

But….

If the offense plays like it did today, it doesn’t matter how good the D plays. Bama will put up enough to put us away. We have to have some consistent production and we just aren’t getting that. Receivers have been off for a while (minus Bru) and Joe has been erratic. Playcalling has been limited because of the above two - they’ve got a week to figure it out.

I agree 100%! If UT still had HCBJ, Milton would be another JG! I can't believe a lot of people can't come to reality when seeing JM stare down his receiver and throw the ball right to a DB sitting in the endzone waiting for the INT!!!

I keep saying the same thing. Then I remember he's a 6 year senior. SIX YEARS.

He's Joe. He's who he is and what we got.

I tend to like the guy. I have respect for him. He's just not a very good QB.

I agree. What do you think about the 2 qb thing kind of like what Florida did with Leak/Tebow? Put Milton in for options, hand offs and QB sneaks and Nico in for passing.
This offense needs to work on cleaning up the penalties and executing plays before anything else. A two QB system isn’t going to help at all.

Joe is our QB…there is no controversy. Nico might be the future but in his limited playing time he hasn’t shown that he’s ready.
Hopefully we can grit out 4 or more wins over the next 6 games but we will have to fight to win in most every game.

I'd say he's doing just enough not to entirely lose a game. But that's about it. I agree though we aren't benching him.

You keep touting the 5-1. If joe can’t find some offense and decision making I fear those numbers will turn quick over the next few weeks. We’ve played no one. Our defense can only do so much. When bama puts 5-7 in the box every play next week we will see what happens. Hopefully a different joe shows up.

Serious question, Is Joe Milton the step brother of Guarantano ? I mean they play the same but JG was tougher. 5 years of JG and one year of Milton is almost too much to bear. Runs out of bounds 1/2 yard short of first down to avoid getting hit. Never throws deep on a free play when the defense jumps off sides. Just the same bad QB play as we have seen from years past.
