ETA - 7 minutes to my part of town

I've been tracking this storm since it was in Tuscaloosa. Had it going through Bessemer and then Homewood. Watched it stay on that track and hit Bessemer in the mouth. Then...it just fell apart. Right before getting into Birmingham. Pretty incredible.

amazing how specific these things are - the cell went through within a mile of me but we got nothing in the way of big winds/downpours.

I was just looking at the giant red cell in southern AL, heading towards Chatom and Jackson.

What do you think about the radar around Knoxville Grand Vol, you think we're in the clear now?

I'm right on the south border of Homewood (Vestavia Hills) so I was in the cone. Sounds like some damage in Bessemer

I'm no meteorologist, but it looks like there are continual bad weather cells moving in from the Chatt-town area all night.

Later it is, the less chance for a tornado to form typically. That's not an exact science, but the warm air part of the circulation that makes tornadoes form cools off so it's less of a threat.

Looks like Kingston/Harriman/Farragut will get slammed all night tonight by thunderstorms.

Just got another tornado warning on my phone, laptop and tv for Knoxville area.

Ugh!

Thanks for the info.

Sitting in my bathroom with my dog with her leash on. Can't help but feel like a bit of a sucker.

Safety first and whatever.

It might have been a few miles north of you but that one would have been close. It was well organized and tightening up. Then the rain cooled wins wrapped around and pierced through (instead of around) the wallcloud basically cutting itself in half and it fell apart.

Any recommendations on an emergency alert app? I'd like something that was very specific for my location, in case a midnight run to the basement is in order.

The Red Cross has a tornado app that will alarm if any watches/warnings are issued for your area..I'm not sure if it does Severe T-storm watches/warnings or just tornadoes but its pretty good. I'm in the tri-cities and my actual weather radio went off when the warning was issued for Knox, which is 2 hours from me. But the red cross app did not, which is good. Give it a try!

Slept like a baby last night. From the looks of things outside this morning, I assume nothing really happened more than a thunderstorm in Knox Co?

Today will be like yesterday

Alabama, Mississippi, and Middle/East Tn will be the target zone

With the clear skies, the atmosphere will be able to reenergize and most likely will cause supercells to develop and track northeast in rapid succession

This may be just as bad as yesterday, with nearly every supercell spinning up a tornado, some being extremely devastating.

You guys and gals from Knoxville to Nashville, south to Montgomery, east to Atlanta, and West to Tupelo should prepare for another round starting around 3:00 EST

Be safe!

Great... Well, at least the plants are getting watered. I feel for everyone that's south and west of us.
