Shut Up Geno

I'm sorry to make you laugh out loud, literally. I guess I need to realize that not all Vol fans support all Vol teams, regardless of gender.

I don't root against them, but I wouldn't exactly say I support them. I figure a lot of people here are like that.

Exactly. If it weren't for that God-awful powder blue I would not know they were on campus.

That surprises me. I don't make plans to watch every women's game but when the orange is on the tube and I run across it, I watch it. Hard for me not to support any Vol team. To each their own.

I absolutely love America, but if I come across the women's national soccer team, I'm not going to watch because I feel like they need my support. It's the same deal with Tennessee and women's basketball.

If UT did away with women's bball tomorrow I wouldn't shed a tear. I don't want them to lose, but I could really care less about them or UConn. At one point, I actually did give half a care, but I got sick and tired of the die-hard Lady Vols fans.

That said, for some reason I find college softball fascinating and will watch the Lady Vols anytime I see them on.

I find UT fans bragging about women's basketball similar to LSU/South Carolina fans bragging about baseball, to be honest.

I see your points. I just support anything associated with the University of TN. Football, basketball, underwater chess, it doesn't matter. God knows I don't have Lady Vol NC banners hanging in my house but I sure as hell don't like UConn or Geno. IMO, it's very similar to those who like UT football/UK basketball...kind of. I realize this is about men vs women but it's still UT. That's the only point I was trying to make.

Not at all actually.

Quick - can you please tell me how the women's crew team finished last season w/out looking it up. If you can't then you aren't a true UT fan.

I'm not trying to insult women, though. I'm not saying I don't watch because they're women and therefore, inferior. I don't watch because I don't find it entertaining. I feel the same way about college baseball and hockey. Because I don't care enough about the game to watch, I can't really say I support the Lady Vols. If I absolutely had to choose a team to win, I'd pick Tennessee, but it doesn't change the fact I'd take a men's SEC tournament championship or Final Four over every single one of our women's national championships.

I hate women's basketball, but if there is one thing I do care about with it is Geno. He's the only coach in that sport that doesn't tell the media what it wants to hear. He's one of the most brutally honest people in all of sports. I read his book, he seems like a pretty good guy.

Women's crew isn't televised, that I'm aware of but I support them. I have no clue what they did.

This all got started because someone said it'd take Geno retiring before Pat got back to the top. As a Vol fan, I don't believe that. Just like I don't believe it'll take Saban, Spurrier, Richt or whoever else to retire before the football team makes it back to the top.

In an ESPN article Geno ripped folks for saying everyone was up in arms because his women were threatening a men's record.

no way you can compare the two. It's not that people are mad. Folks would have to give a damn to be the least bit upset.

If they get to 150 straight wins, that MIGHT
be comparable to the mens record. But as of right now, it means jack s***

I get a kick out of the guy. It seems much of the hate is because he knocked Pat off of her throne. That and he's quick to jab, and they're usually good ones.

All good points. Again, I don't find it entertaining enough to cancel plans in order to watch them but I do care if they win or lose and will watch the bigger games against the top teams. Meant no harm in going on and on about this.

If you were a true fan you would know. Obviously you aren't.

You're right though, it's not going to require Geno retiring for Pat to get on top, she can't even get to the point to face him anymore.

ucla probably had similar competition during their streak. now if someone did that TODAY in MEN'S basketball then i'd be very impressed.

I was watching SportsCenter this morning and they showed highlights of the Lady Vols and Stanford game from last night. It was two top 10 teams playing in TBA, and I had no idea they even had a game. That should tell you all you need to know about how relevant women's basketball is to myself, as well as the majority of the people in the city. If that were a top 10 match-up in basketball, football, or even baseball there would have been some talk around town. With last night's game, there was nothing.

Hat is Title IX's biggest fan.

I don't really have any issues with the underlying principles of Title IX. If they would take the football numbers out of the equation, I wouldn't have any issues with it at all.

Wishing and being content or satisfied with other teams' success against any Vol team makes you not a "true fan" of the Vols. Not having any interest in a particular sport doesn't make you any less of a fan, but I see what you're trying to do. Never said you had to know every single stat or w/l record.

What actually happened between Summit and Geno that caused Summit to end the UT-UConn series?

I've never heard what it was that took place.

Summit only answers the question by responding "Ask Geno, he knows what he did.". Seems like it had something to do with Maya Moore's recruitment, but what did he actually do?

He told recruits that pat eats muff.

Agreed...it is apples and oranges.
