SIAP. Texas could get James Franklin?

Alot. Tennessee cannot beat James Franklin. If he gets hired away, hopefully we can start beating Vanderbilt again and move up a spot in the East.

Tennessee AT IT'S LOW POINT, beat Vandy! You sir are incorrect. Franklin just happened to beat us the las two years period. It will not happen again. Some of you people think Franklin is such a great coach ... Get real. Not saying he is bad but he sure has not coached enough to put him with the best! Good Grief!

I seriously hope my sarcasm meter is just not working properly.... Because if you are serious you are a total idiot and an embarrassment to vol fans everywhere

If Miles or Gundy were to go to Texas I could see Franklin having a legit shot replacing either. Franklin at LSU would drive Bammers crazy.

I would be very surprised if James Franklin gets a serious look for any job opening in the near future. I believe the situation with the on going rape case is alot more serious than people are led to believe, what vandy fans cant come to grips with is if he had any part of a cover up the only team he will be coaching will be with the Tennessee prison system. I think texas ends up with either bronc from BYU or Freeze from ole miss, their hire wont be as big as they are claiming.

How much have you heard about the rape case lately? I understand it's still supposedly being "investigated" but this thing has been forgotten for the most part, by many. Hell, I live in the Nashville area, my father in law is the Davidson Co Court Administrator and I've forgotten about it and heard nothing in 4+ plus months. I think very little will come of the situation period, and Franklin will be free of any wrong doing.

So we've given up hope that we can rise to the top. Now we gotta wish away any quality coaches in the conference?

I think LSU could do much better than Franklin. Plus they already took a Vandy coach and that didn't turn out all that great.

Oklahoma St. I could see. They are one of those "not quite a big program" programs. Better than Vandy but not as big as Texas/Oklahoma.

When a coach is being considered athletic departments hire people to sift through baggage, if you think it's nothing then you just don't get it. Due to the scandal and baggage there is a perceived risk.

You don't think a school like Texas would just over look it if they were considering him?

He won't get an interview. Would be surprised if his agent even gets courtesy call.

Seriously, what has he really accomplished at Vandy to warrant attention from programs like USC and Texas. Sure winning 9 at Vandy is great on the surface but when you look at who the wins were against it's not THAT impressive.

I'll give him credit for being able to close out close games in the 4th against crappy teams.

getting Vandy to a bowl, is an accomplishment, but it's not landing him a gig, like USC or Texas

Big bald Franklin in burnt orange...it would be funny. All 17 of Vandys fans might go on a hunger strike.

Meyer had a guy questioned for a shooting, a guy now in jail for murder, and it never seemed to come out until after this latest issue with Hernandez and it didn't cost Meyer a job at OSU. No one outside of the mid-state has even touched on the Vanderbilt case. ESPN may have ran with it for a day but since nothing has been mentioned. And it happened in the summer when a coach has no contact with his players, I can see that being an easy excuse to exonerate him in potential program's eyes. Plus I think this whole thing gets swept under the rug in the end. The presiding judge, DA and defense attorney, for Vandenburg at least, are all Vandy grads. My father in law knows everyone personally and reports to the judge, and he doesn't believe the DA will prosecute the case ethically.

I got in a cordial but passionate debate with a good friend (a Vandy Law graduate). As a UT grad, I did some digging and examined Vandy's wins under Franklin. Here are the results as quoted from me to him via email:

"During the greatest stretch in Vandy history (aided in no small part to the downward trend at UT and some incredible scheduling "luck"), Vandy has gone to three bowl games. I concede that is unprecedented. The reason that Vandy doesn't get invites to "better" bowls is certain: scheduling. In three years, the teams that Vandy has beaten average a 4-8 record. 6 of the 23 individual victories of Vandy's came against teams who were so bad that the HC was replaced. Vandy has only beaten 4 teams in three years who were bowl eligible.

Vandy, under Franklin, has never beaten a team that finished the regular season with more than 8 wins.

Franklin's best win on paper is against an 8 win UGA squad. Close your eyes and pretend that that game isn't any different had UGA not had its whole offense sidelined playing at UT.

Now consider this, if UT scheduled like Vandy (you know, not playing Oregon and instead schedules UMASS, or UAB, a WF - teams that totaled 7 wins this season), UT would also be going to a bowl. Pay no attention to the fact that UT's western division games came against Auburn and Bama ( two of the most talented teams in the SEC with a combined 2 losses between them) to Vandy's western division games (9 losses between them, both mid pack talent wise). How about this: 10 of the 23 Vandy victories came against teams with 3 wins or less. Almost half of Vandy's wins during the greatest stretch in their history came against teams who couldn't....win....4....games."

I can't see them stroking a check for the guy until the rape investigation is cleared.

I guess it could go the other way...if Franklin took the job, TX money might try to make the investigation go away as quickly as possible.

I agree that the investigation probably knocks his name off of the list unless they get absolute legal proof he is 100% innocent. As far as their money "making it go away" goes, I don't think it will come to that. There are too many better coaches out there that would get offered and probably accept before they had to bail out Franklin, imo.

Pretty sure the news carried a story about JF's phone records and possibly he himself being subpoenaed within the last 2 weeks.
