There’s still plenty of viable paths. But we need help.

UF vs Ole Miss
Bama vs Oklahoma/Auburn
ND vs Army/USC
Georgia vs Georgia tech (not happening)
Ohio state beating the doors off Indiana (maybe the most likely)

I guess I'm overly paranoid. I see everyone running through these playoff scenarios and I guess it's just assumed we're going to beat Vandy.

A game on the road against a well coached team with a good QB that's makes a ton of plays with his legs is my main concern right now.

Lots of paths for Vols. Indiana will drop a long way with a beat down loss to Ohio State. Penn State has a really hard road game at Minnesota. Notre Dame also plays Army and USC. Ole Miss at Florida and Alabama goes to Oklahoma at night.

well let’s just for the love of god beat Vandy first
Wonder if we'll have a rash of "injuries" vs UTEP and if we have another bad loss in us in Nashville? By then the message on the playoffs will be pretty clear. If we ain't in it, I wonder about our collective mindset. Vandy will be ready and waiting to take us down.

What? Bama has two Top 25 wins and we have 1 which is the head to head. They barely escaped AT HOME in both of theirs.
But they did escape. We failed at that vs Arky. Like BOT pointed out, we have no one to blame but ourselves. We didn't handle business so we have no room to complain if the process leaves us on the outside looking in.

And that was an away game by 5. What about Ole Miss losing two to unranked teams? Hell one was at home to Kentucky.

Texas just beat Arky by 2 scores at Arky. You want to run in those circles? You don't lose that game. We played what turned out to be a layup schedule and still managed to blow it. Just like stupid penalties, Heupel's bunch is gonna have at least one of those every season. So far he's not shown himself capable of correcting either. We preach the maxims, but Heupel's teams can't get past #1 in most games this season. Where's the discipline? Or is it all the refs being out to get us? Year 4 and we're still forced to play 74 because Heupel's best bud has no one else to turn to. We even had to go spend a hefty sum to find a LT....in year 4. Nah, this team has surprised me with 8 wins with the potential of reaching 11 with the right bowl opponent. I'll be happy with that, but we ain't no playoff team. Nope.

I get the Arkansas loss was bad, but you can’t throw our bad loss on the road by 5 to a team that will make a bowl out there and discount Ole Miss home loss to a team that won’t even make a bowl. We’re gonna get in, just watch.

If UGA dropped from 3 to 12 after losing to a ranked team on the road, BYU better be outside of the top 15. They should have lost last week to a bad Utah team.

They will drop significantly but they are going to get an automatic bid out of that terrible conference. Them or Colorado.

I don’t think they’re going to punish any championship game losers honestly

I know it would help us but logically I don’t think they should. Seems wrong to punish a team for having to play an extra game and rewarding another team for not having to. But also kinda makes the some major conference championship games moot. I know winning gets a Top 4 seed but honestly in a 12 team playoff where most games are neutral site it doesn’t seem like seeding means much.

I don’t think think Arkansas being a bowl team barely is going to be that big of a deal. And that’s assuming they can win 1 of their last 2, which is hardly a given. It’s possible them and UK end up with the same record. UK won’t beat Texas but they beat a much better Louisville on the road last year so don’t count that as an L yet either.

Bottom line folks is that there was not another game of significance on last night during ours. Once the Oregon game ended you can be assured that every committee member was watching our game. And what they saw is us get our asses handed to us for three out of four quarters. And the one quarter they probably didn’t see was the first one. When the rankings come out Tuesday we will probably be no better than 14 and wouldn’t be surprised if it’s lower. The committee could easily put Clemson, Colorado, and A&M in front of us.

Don’t forget we have to beat Vandy. Their offense will cause us problems.
Preach it, but it will fall on deaf ears. This ain't the typical Vandy team. They're well coached and hungry. Hopefully, they'll be beaten up by the time we play them, but even then, I question our level of motivation if we aren't a viable playoff candidate. This team can't be trusted on the road.

Florida beats ole miss and Texas beats A&M.

Throw in notre dame losing to usc. That’s just a bonus.

Go vols. Keep your heads up guys

I tried to tell y'all that we should’ve been cheering for LSU against Alabama because LSU would lose down the road and take a 3rd loss. LSU lost to Florida, as I said was likely, and now has 4 losses.

Now Alabama only has 2 and will get in over Tennessee in spite of head to head. Because they’re Alabama.

Does it make sense now @Dobbs 4 Heisman ?

So we’re down to relying on Billy Napier. Like I said we need a miracle.
Say what you will, but the guy has done a darned good job considering a young qb and a brutal schedule. They didn't mail it in. They've fought. If I'm being honest, I like their chances for next season a lot more than ours. Lagway will be a load. Hope we can say the same about Nico next year.

Add Texas beating Bama or Ole Miss in the SECCG to the list.

The margin between the 2-loss teams is so small that a 2-loss team loses the SECCG they are going home.

I'm not sure they want to send a message of punishing teams that get to a conference title game and rewarding teams they beat out to get there. That would set a terrible precedent and would tarnish those games, which the powers that be desperately want to keep because of the revenue. To me, if you're in this silly playoff before a conference title game, the result should only affect your seeding - it should be treated like a post season game. If not, just eliminate the game itself.

I said after our game with them that that was a team that hadn’t quit and was playing hard for their coach.

Lagway will be a problem next year. But so will Nico.
