I don't hate N.O. I just don't think you can get a good meal there without spending a fortune or without having everything deep fried. They are mutually exclusive. I've eaten at Brennen's and other high falutin' places as well, but I am not into spend 100s of dollars whenever I am there. I am on the road a lot as you know, so spending a ton of coin on a meal gets old. I get it when you are on vacation though. You're not going to the right places.
I suspect your lack of affinity for the city corrupts your objectivity about the cuisine.

Lucy's Retired Surfer Bar.
I get it. Youre hold up in some hotel waiting to go back to the airport. Tough to find the right places. N.O. is a wonderful place for food if you're a foodie. Next time you are stuck in the Big Easy, let me know, I will hook you up with the right kinds of places.I don't hate N.O. Did not like Tujagues. Great atmosphere on Easter Sunday. But not really impressed with the food. C'est la vie.We always hit two places (three if you include Café du Monde for beignets) and after that try other places. Café du Monde and Evans Candy are in the French Market on Decatur St, Tujague's is across the street from them.
Tujague's (an interesting place which unsettles many first timers - you have to go in with the attitude that it's a little expensive, a real meal with several courses, limited selections, and they might leave you hanging at the door for a bit before you are seated - not the place you go if you want a quick or light meal while)
The Gumbo Shop (my favorites chicken andouille gumbo and red beans and rice - need to try other entrees but only so much time and I'd miss not having those)
I appreciate that, but I think the next time I will be there is whenever we play LSU again... or go to the Sugar Bowl...I get it. Youre hold up in some hotel waiting to go back to the airport.
