It actually wasnt

We're talkin about the defense that have 50+, whatever it was, to Troy. Good offenses did put up good numbers against us last year but was no where the atrocious defense of 2012. It was basically the same players and had a lot better numbers statistically

If he cannot give out who, after all it is his opinion, then he is just filling air time. He has nothing I tell you.
When someone moves on or is let go he will say "I told you this was coming in the summer of 14 before the dynasty started at Tennessee!"

I see no reason why anyone who predict what will happen to our football staff in 18-24 months unless he is trying to undermine our football recruiting.

Twenty hers ago, King had the best sports radio program in the South which was broadcast on WLAC in Nashville. At that time, he had a lot of connections with the Tennessee staff and had a lot of inside information. Most of the time, I would say he was in Tennessee's corner and I listened to his show almost every weekday night. When WLAC was sold and became a political station, King lost his job and I was unable to get his new show when I lived in Atlanta. During that time he also lost most of his contacts at Tennessee and he changed his attitude toward the VOLs. It appears to me that he has now become anti Tennessee.

I hate to see this happen, but I guess he has to do something to draw attention to his name/program. He may be correct in his prediction, but I would rather he report news rather than predict events in the future which can adversely effect Tennessee's football program. MPO.

Seems like Jancek and Martinez both have always been associated with defenses that give up massive amounts of yards.....I was puzzled by the hire of both of them to be honest.

I'm assuming it was a comfort issue with Jones, especially with Jancek. I don't know if Martinez would get axed, because he's a decent recruiter

Like LWSVOL said, the defense will likely suck balls this year and Jones can't afford to hang on to Jancek if it even appears no improvement is made this season.

Only hope is Jancek pulls a rabbit out of his hat

Again, this is the DC that got crushed by Dooley at home

Most rushing yards ever in 3 consecutive games(over 900)

Most points ever allowed in Neyland

Most rushing yards in a game ever allowed in Neyland

Sunseri can't claim that

King also claimed Brent Schaefer was the 2nd best qb in SEC coming out of JC in 2006. One year later, he wasn't the 2nd best QB on Ole Miss campus. King might be right but it's only cause someone told him that. He knows nothing.

CBJ will have to evaluate all coaches after the season and make changes as necessary. I guess the AD has to agree but it's CBJ's job that's ultimately on the line.

That was also when Bray was firing on all cylinders and Justin Hunter pre ACL and DaRick Rogers. Our offense completely collapsed after Hunter went down.

Its funny when people with no connection to the team, without Orange glasses, gives an opinion it is immediately dismissed as some sort of misguided hate against UT

These people do this for a living. Even UT fans said that Jancek was going to be Jones' Achilles heel.

Jones can't afford to hold on to sub par coaches if he's going to turn this ship around and headed in the right direction

Jones is the key

We've had one year! And the defense was what was left of the Sal Sunseri disaster. Give it time. I think our defense will do just fine. Part of our problem was having players that weren't fast enough, and players that couldn't tackle! Fix that, and we have a much better defense. It'll get better. I'm not worried.

This is my take on our defensive side of the ball so far. I mean Dooley could never close the deal on elite level SEC caliber defensive game changers/lineman. Then you had Sal coaching them flag football defensive schemes and techniques...I mean honestly what do you all expect when this guy is our best SEC caliber player on our team?

Co-DC with Martinez IIRC

EDIT: I just realized you meant w Cincy.

I was referring to 2009 Geogia game where Kiffin and Crompton crushed the Dawgs

Our defense played way over its head against South Carolina and Georgia than played poorly against Missouri and Auburn, but than again so did every body else. Our defense was better than it was the year before by about 30 spots in total defense.

You know.....crazy thought, I know. But....if Butch told Jancek to move on....I wonder if he would go after Chavis. Not a "go get em'" Recruiter....but family still lives here, loves UT, and his results speak for themselves.

Just a thought. I hope to see much improvement this year in technique if nothing else.

I doubt he would come back. He's got it made at LSU and he was the only member of Fulmer staff that should have been retained IMO.

It actually wasnt

Total Yards given up per game was over 50 yards per game better in 2013

Total yards given up through the air per game was 27th in the nation in 2013.

The Run D however was absolutely abysmal. They faced some big time offenses.

2012 Defense was worse and was on par with TAMU 2013 Defense.

So yes, last yrs defense was improved. And If they improve from last yr on the same pace they will be a decent SEC defense. That alone would be huge.

I don't really know what the problem is. Defense was MUCH improved last year. Gotta think two years with coaching turnover will only help to improve again this year.

Defense was improved last year, but after the Sunseri disaster from the year before there was no where to go but up.

This AM on Sirius college radio, Bill King predicted Butch would make defensive coach changes w/in 18 months. He said Butch swung and missed on a few defensive coaches but mentioned no names. What are your thoughts on who they will be & why?

Bill King is on point and very connected with the great minds in college football. Unfortunately, his show has changed a lot over the years toward more rants and raves. He has not had many positive comments for anyone other than Alabama, Auburn, or FSU this spring. He's a real SEC guy at heart. I think he's a vol fan but didn't like how Fulmer situation went down.

The hallmark of the old Chavis "D" was speed. We always recruited it. The Dooley years reversed the whole premise. Butch and Jancek are back to recruiting speed again, and once the kids know what they are doing, our defense will be fine, and so will Jancek. No worries!

Sunseri can't claim that

Sunseri can only claim most points allowed to a Sunbelt school in Neyland.

But maybe Troy 2012 was actually better than 2013 Auburn

Jancek and Martinez have been on the chopping block since they stepped foot on campus by some fans. They think they know for a fact that a Butch Jones led team and more experienced Jancek/Martinez doesn't have a chance because Martinez stunk it up as a DC a couple of years at Ga several years ago. He's not a DC anymore, so I don't even know why that's an argument. Most of it is ill informed or just a popular stance to take.
Who knows if it will work out but I thought they were far from the problem last year. Our db's broke on the ball better than we have in many years, got a lot of picks and had virtually zero help up front. Palardy was the 2nd fastest player at our pro day and we had db's there running 4.8 40's
If you are going to judge, do it on what they do with some comparable talent and if they need to move on it will take care of itself. Dooming them because of whatever may or may not have happened with another team years ago in a different era for a different coach and in a past decade seems ridiculous to me. And I know the lazy argument that history repeats itself but if a man/coach doesn't learn from mistakes made as a younger man/coach then he needs to go ahead and gtfo of the profession anyway.
Sorry for the quasi rant.
