Sirius radio Bill King disses Defensive staff

Jancek and Martinez have been on the chopping block since they stepped foot on campus by some fans. They think they know for a fact that a Butch Jones led team and more experienced Jancek/Martinez doesn't have a chance because Martinez stunk it up as a DC a couple of years at Ga several years ago. He's not a DC anymore, so I don't even know why that's an argument. Most of it is ill informed or just a popular stance to take.
Who knows if it will work out but I thought they were far from the problem last year. Our db's broke on the ball better than we have in many years, got a lot of picks and had virtually zero help up front. Palardy was the 2nd fastest player at our pro day and we had db's there running 4.8 40's
If you are going to judge, do it on what they do with some comparable talent and if they need to move on it will take care of itself. Dooming them because of whatever may or may not have happened with another team years ago in a different era for a different coach and in a past decade seems ridiculous to me. And I know the lazy argument that history repeats itself but if a man/coach doesn't learn from mistakes made as a younger man/coach then he needs to go ahead and gtfo of the profession anyway.
Sorry for the quasi rant.
No doubt...this

King also claimed Brent Schaefer was the 2nd best qb in SEC coming out of JC in 2006. One year later, he wasn't the 2nd best QB on Ole Miss campus. King might be right but it's only cause someone told him that. He knows nothing.

He is a radio goob looking for ratings.

I thought that bringing Jancek with him was a big mistake at first, but I got to looking at his stats at Cincinnati and it has at least made me pause on what I think of him. He had a pretty good defenses that got in the backfield and caused a lot of havoc and sacks. I know that was in the Big East, but it was with not so great Big East talent. I want to see what he can do with really good to great SEC talent before I judge him.

BTW, Alabama gave up 296 yards rushing to Auburn with all of their great talent. I would hate to see what Sunseri's 2012 defense would have done against the best rushing attack in the nation last year. Next time use some logic before you post.

Bla Bla Bla , could care less about Bill( Norte dame loving) King.

Seconded! Bill King and his wanna be sidekick live in Nashville and take every opportunity to build up Vandy and throttle Tennessee. They are pretty subtle about it so as not to loose credibility. I have been listening every morning for 2-3 years. They just know right now they can't hammer Butch so they look for any way to dampen the Vol MoJo as much as possible. They are worried which is why they have softened stance a lot from Butch not proven SEC ready to great hire but other question marks.
Go Butch and Go Vols!

Bill King likes the Butch Jones hiring. He was not a fan of Martinez because of the job he did at Georgia. He not a Vandy fan just liked the job James Franklin did.

I see no reason why anyone who predict what will happen to our football staff in 18-24 months unless he is trying to undermine our football recruiting.

Twenty hers ago, King had the best sports radio program in the South which was broadcast on WLAC in Nashville. At that time, he had a lot of connections with the Tennessee staff and had a lot of inside information. Most of the time, I would say he was in Tennessee's corner and I listened to his show almost every weekday night. When WLAC was sold and became a political station, King lost his job and I was unable to get his new show when I lived in Atlanta. During that time he also lost most of his contacts at Tennessee and he changed his attitude toward the VOLs. It appears to me that he has now become anti Tennessee.

I hate to see this happen, but I guess he has to do something to draw attention to his name/program. He may be correct in his prediction, but I would rather he report news rather than predict events in the future which can adversely effect Tennessee's football program. MPO.

You are correct he doesn't like UT. He was even anti Majors.

You know.....crazy thought, I know. But....if Butch told Jancek to move on....I wonder if he would go after Chavis. Not a "go get em'" Recruiter....but family still lives here, loves UT, and his results speak for themselves.

Just a thought. I hope to see much improvement this year in technique if nothing else.

Since this is a Bill King post he always said Chavis was a joke and didn't give him any credit the year they won the Title.

A radio sports talk host that says something controversial? Who saw that coming?

Most rushing yards ever in 3 consecutive games(over 900)

Most points ever allowed in Neyland

Most rushing yards in a game ever allowed in Neyland

Sunseri can't claim that
But the guy that inherited his players and the way they were coached for years did? Is that your point?

And to think those points allowed versus the eventual SEC Champs too...what an embarrassment...oh wait - the Barners did the same to Mizzou in SECCG.

Martinez gets a bad rep for being a defensive coordinator. He's an awesome DB coach. Saw a lot of improvement from the secondary. Sutton got freshman all America, Swafford (former walk on) had a great year. Besides, many recruits seem to like him.

This AM on Sirius college radio, Bill King predicted Butch would make defensive coach changes w/in 18 months. He said Butch swung and missed on a few defensive coaches but mentioned no names. What are your thoughts on who they will be & why?

Bill King is still mad because he didnt get John Ward job when John retiried:whistling:

I think people are over looking what LWS said, we need to add more recruiters. Thigpen will get exhausted at his current pace.

Bill King USED TO BE a viable expert on college football. I listened to him on Nashville radio often, but now he's become a bitter, second-guessing wannabe. Don't take his blind sided opinions seriously.

I was in favor of us replacing Jancek at the end of the season, but now I'm in "wait and see" mode. Overall, I think we had a really good defensive haul in the last class, and if they can manage to lure McKenzie, and either Tuttle or Settle at DT + Sweat and Phillips at DE, I'd say they've done their job...and then some.

What's going to have to happen is a major shift in the Win/Loss column. CBJ has a lot to sell, but he needs wins to close the deal with more of the 4-5* recruits.

Bill King is one the best in the business in my opinion. Especially compared to the others on SiriusXM or people like Finebaum. He generally is spot on with his opinions. I thought he had a small bias against UT for a long time, but he was just saying stuff I didn't want to hear and it usually ended up coming true.

Hmmm... I really HOPE it's because Butch finally realized he needs to better recruiters but I really doubt that idea. Here's why....

Who did he actually "swing out on?" From my understanding he wanted to bring his entire staff from Cincy and we got Auburn peeps because they were going to be gone anyways. Even though, Shannon Morrison was "new" to Butch 2012 and new to coaching in general, I think he was offered but declined the job. He was the main guy recruiting for the Kentucky and South Florida areas. He also coached Memphis Tigers in 2010 I think. Maybe he was who Butch "swung out on"

Or maybe it was Kerry Coombs? He left to go to Ohio State in 2012. Maybe Butch was trying to get him to come join him at TN.

Too me, Butch is very loyal. If he wants better recruiting he'll have to get rid of some of his long lasting co-workers. Will Butch actually go that route?

He is just a little short guy who wants to act big. He wants to be a big guy sooo badly. He went to UT and used to have a huge show back in the day before internet came along. Well, Bob Bell made the show, but he thought he did. He was wrong as usual. He knows nothing about recruiting and he used to hang his hat on it. He is very very seldom ever right about anything. He used to think he was close to the program and had the "in", but something happened between he and the Fulmer staff years ago. They shut him down and wouldn't let him in anymore. So he made it his personal crusade to dog the Vols every day for the rest of his life. All of this is true.......

What, if anything, does that have to do with it?

It's OK to suck it up because they did it to Missouri too?
