Snowboarding/Skiing/Trips/and all things snowsports thread

If you plan to continue to ski, I would go ahead and get new skis and boots. I would check online and in stores (Sun and Ski here) for last year's models; you will get a big break in the prices for the previous year's equipment. It is most important that you buy your boots new (compared to your skis) because you want the right flex and for the boot to form to your foot.

As for buying skis online, be alert to the condition and age of your bindings. A lot of shops won't work on skis (bindings) that are over 8-10 years.

Good luck!

Have had my own boots for 2 seasons now. Absolutely no comparison. Got mine on sale after ski season and paid less than 1/2 retail. Sun N Ski is great! Try on lots of different brands as the last (width) and length inside the boot vary greatly from one manufacturer to the next. Nothing worse than having poorly fitting boots (increases risk of injury too)

Hope that helps. I am renting demo skis now instead of regular rentals, better skis by far, minimal price increase. Most places, you can even demo different ones on different days...

Could you post a picture of the Skis and boots? Also are you going to include the boots too?

Sure, I'm not home right now but I can do it later. I actually leave to ski out west tmr so if you like them I can prob meet you later in the day or this evening maybe.

Are you letting the boots got to for the $75? I think they may fit my son.

taking the family for spring break to Steamboat. First time as a family. 68 inches base right now. Hope to be skiing in a short sleeve shirt by then

You guys make me very envious! Have fun though. I'm going to make the run up to Ober Gatlinburg this weekend to try and get a little in anyway.

Will be there in 10 days. March 9-14.

nice. with family? This is costing a buttload, but we haven't been and may not be able to go again. I just hope my kids have fun so it's worth it. Never been to that mountain, but heard it was a little easier than Vail and definitely more kid friendly.

get some friends and fly out to Colorado next January. SWA flights when we went cost us $300 round trip or were free with points to Denver. Split rental car cost and get a condo and you can get to a resort, 2-3 nights stay, and back for @ $600. I've done it the last 3 years. Now, you have expenses there of course. Mainly lift ticket and bevs. Rentals are only $25/day.
All 5 of us are flying free, so that saves me quite a bit.

We don't have SW here but we do have Frontier that flies to Denver non-stop and is a discount airline. I think I might try and do that next year. I also have a friend that has a seven bedroom chalet at Snowshoe and he's invited me on numerous occasions this winter but I've just not had the time to go. I need to just set a date and do it. Kids don't stay young forever.

You will also find that as your kids age, you and the wife together or separate have chances for weekend getaways. Plus, its dad time, or guys weekend at my house, when she is gone. And guys weekend with friends when its my turn. When my kids were little neither one of us went on many trips like that. Now i get 3-4 guy trip weekends a year, which is all I need or can take.
