So glad we passed on Tajh Boyd

The much-maligned Coach Fulmer had Boyd coming here. But Kiffin knew so much more than that.

To give credit where credit is actually due.... Clawson and his guys were the ones who had Boyd committed. In fact, almost all of the good work done on that class prior to the firing had been done by Clawson and the assistants he brough with him to UT.

Clawson was not the cause of Fulmer's downfall... he was a collateral victim of it.

Poor ol Phil. He was as freakin predictable as a Jewish bank, but I was so happy when he finally stepped out of his comfort zone and hired Clawson. But it ended up an epic fail!

Should've "stayed the course" after all.

Maybe not the "cause" but about 100 pounds of straw that broke the camel's back. That offense led by Crompton in a fog, was utterly horrific. The D was pretty decent as usual.

It is interesting to think of what the dreaded Clawfense could have been with the right players running it. Dave was very successful bringing up Richmond. Fulmer, except later in his career with Manning/Clausen/Ainge was geared to using dual threat QBs. The general idea of Fulmer was that he was a "pro-style QB" OC/HC, but the pro-style guys are more the exception than the rule, starting from back in the 80s.

Not claiming anything either way, but it appears Phil was making big (at least for him) changes at the wrong time. Had Ainge and the offense not laid an egg 05' and they had say a 8-4 year, then he may have had the collateral to pull off the offensive changes that collapsed us in 08'. Phil thought he had the tenure to make the change. He didn't. Kinda like Dools swapping to the 3-4 Salfense after 2 of 2 losing years.

It's possible that Boyd could have been a key cog in some strong spread teams in 09-12'. ... Or not.

Boyd on the frontpage, Fulmer on the frontpage. Are we stuck in some kind of time warp that I am seemingly unaware of?

Let it go already. Living in the past is not healthy.

It made sense at the time, he was a dual-threat and Kiffin preferred a pocket passer. So Kiffin told him what was best for Tennessee and what he thought was best for Boyd.

With all the crap Kiffin done. What he did with Boyd was spot on. Another stupid mistake. :banghead2: He could be our starter right now. :banghead2:
