So Legendary Coach Pat Summit was forced out...

I'm kinda conflicted on this.

I still maintain that I'd rather have her step down now than to have her decisions and stability openly questioned after losses. But this won't look good at all for Hart.

Summitt backs up Jennings in lawsuit against UT | wbir.com

In the affidavit by Summitt:

"During this one-on-one meeting, Dave Hart indicated to me that I would not be coaching the Lady Vol Basketball Team in the next school year and he planned to name Holly Warlick as the head coach. Dave Hart told me I would still have an office in Thompson-Boling Arena and my title could be Head Coach Emeritus. This was very surprising to me and very hurtful as that was a decision I would have liked to have made on my own at the end of the season after consulting with my family, doctors, colleagues, and friends and not be told this by Mr. Hart. I felt it was wrong."

No one can be a true Vol fan and back Hart on this issue.

UT should settle this and let it die as quickly as possible. What's done is done. Hart will never be looked at the same by some of us however.

Then I guess Pat Summit lied to the UT faithful as well as she has constantly said it was her own decision to retire.
Perhaps she was looking out for the best interest of the program that took her 30 damn years to build. All of that in lieu of Hart, who doesn't seem to have the best interest of the program in mind.

That makes no sense - if he actually made that decision then he indeed has the best interest of the program in mind - anyone who watch Coach Summit "coach" last year knows that and is just in denial if they believe otherwise.

Had Debbie Jennings not brought this lawsuit against the University Summitt would have gone on allowing everyone to think it was her decision BECAUSE it was in the best interest of the organization which she so loves.

Now tho, being called into the spotlight by this lawsuit, she couldn't very well ignore a 30+ year relationship with a close friend asking her to back her up...I'd imagine Summitt probably submitted this Affidavit begrudgingly.

DiPietro needs to clear this up..
Hart forcing Summit out is unacceptable

Why? It was clear to anyone who watched 5 minutes of any game last year that if she wasn't well enough to make the decision to hang it up herself then someone should make that tough decision for her.

Pat needed to step down. Her health is way more important than basketball. My grandmother died of the same disease and couldn't remember my name most of the time. And that's when she was first diagnosed. Hart did her and her family a favor if its true.

there's a certain amount of respect that Pat's earned through her tenure at UT..
Hart could have teh converstion and asked her thoughts on returning, gauge where she was in the decision process, and say they should meet about it after the Tourney..

He shouldn't come out and tell she's not coaching next year, the first time they sit down to discuss it

Do you really think that's how it went down?

He could've waited until the season was over (if that is indeed accurate - which I still remain skeptical) - but there was no option other than Pat retiring this season - I don't care how legendary she is.. she was not in good enough health to continuing coaching and that's the bottom line.. and its also financially irresponsible to pay her that money to sit on the bench and pay Holly (who actually is the one coaching) assistant coach money to do her job.

If Hart forced her out, I'm sure it was absolutely necessary. There's no reason to do it otherwise.

Read the entire affidavit. Summit concludes by saying Hart met with her a second time and indicated she misunderstood his first statement. News conveniently ignored that.

There isn't a good way to feel about this in regard to Pat Summit.

But that isn't on her, or Dave Hart. It's on the disease.

Fact remains that UT AD is CEO of a multimillion dollar business. As ceo you don't allow employees to make major decisions that affect the future of your business, no matter how successful they are. You lay out a plan & hope employees embrace it. Hart did that.

all I can do is read the affidivat, and speculate..
I would also expect Pat to make the decison to retire, if not then at the second meetiing Hart could make his decision..
