For now. Once they have served their little 2 game suspensions (if that) and we spring into conference play/tourney play they'll come back out of the woodwork.

And they will go right back in the woodwork after an 8-8 conference finish and another double digit tourney seed....

Here's what I think it boils down to, you either put team first or yourself first. If you get in trouble you put yourself first. Get rid of the non team players. Bruce is a good coach, and he will do the right thing unlike Lane.

Why don't we hear about these things at Duke or NC?

Coaches set the rules. Players know they're supposed to follow them. Plus, I don't believe they recruit many thugs.

All I ever hear on this board is how bad Memphis is. But your coach is always here trying to recruit our young men. Every city has poor areas, but if you have never been here you would think the entire city was a cesspool! That could not be further from the truth!!

The city is home to Memphis International Airport, the world's busiest cargo airport, which serves as the primary hub for FedEx Express shipping and as a secondary hub for Northwest Airlines.

Memphis is the home of nine Fortune 1000 companies. These include the corporate headquarters of FedEx Corporation, AutoZone Incorporated, International Paper, and Thomas & Betts. In addition, Memphis is home to the pharmaceutical/healthcare firm Schering-Plough Corporation, serving as the company's research & development center.

Memphis is well known for its cultural contributions to the identity of the American south. Many renowned musicians grew up in and around the Memphis and Mississippi Delta.[9] These included such musical greats as Elvis Presley, Muddy Waters, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Robert Johnson, W.C. Handy, B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Isaac Hayes, Booker T. Jones, and Al Green.

So, while I feel bad for those young men, I fiercely defend the reputation of my city! Vol Fans, from here on I want to say one thing,

" DON'T THROW BRICKS WHEN YOU LIVE IN A GLASS HOUSE"! :banghead2:

Because if the actions of four morons causes some ignorant fans to quit watching and coming to games, it was a success.

Ah Ha---he finally rears the ugly head. You are who you associate with/ admire. I was a Vol fan when most of you newbies were passing the yellow stuff. If you continue to support the thugs, that's your problem. I will support UT BB when the act is cleaned up. Buzz off.

Just watched my last UT BB game. "Team leader" Tyler and his doping tattooed coharts won't be on my viewing list anymore. And thanks, Tyler, for projecting the thug image of the Vols right here at recruiting time. I would rather watch some good guys lose em all than watch that bunch again. Give em a pass if you want----no mas for me. Tennessee is an institution of higher learning---First and foremost, and one I am currently not very proud of.

Win at all cost? I think not.

Well we know which column to put you in.

My thugs are better than yours?

This is an opinion board, you voiced yours--AICCL---and I voiced mine-----and so shall I continue--Just won't be supporting Tyler and Co.

Put me in the sensible column and you in the gone column. You said you had watched your last UT BB game. Good riddance to a vagabond fan.

When you decide to support the program again, then please come back here. Otherwise, there are many other forums on Volnation that you can go complain on. See ya.

"From day one he has recruited the most thugged out kids he could find"

Hopson, Negedo, Hall, Woolridge, Chism, Williams are not "thugged out" to any degree.

and for those on this board that say that these athletes "represent UT" - come on - wake up and smell the coffee!!!!

I would venture to say that a number of UT fans who are criticizing the coaching staff and the players involved never even attended the hallowed halls of UT. In my opinion, major D1 athletes do not "represent" the schools they attend; instead they represent the teams and coaches that they play for. These athletic programs have become financially independent organizations with big time boosters who are calling the shots. Any semblance of athletes actually representing the schools that they play for is based only in history. These kids get a scholarship for their efforts, the value of which pales in comparison to the salaries that their coaches receive.

This being said, the players in question violated certain criminal laws and got caught. Suffice it to say that a number of us have violated the "law" but luckily we were not caught. The judicial system will determine the fate of these guys. If the players do not have lengthy criminal records, the charges will likely be reduced and each will get a "slap on the wrist". Before you start talking about preferential treatment for athletes, I must let you know that I am an attorney and the vast majority of these kind of cases get plead out to a lessor charge with little to no jail time. They will probably have to a lot of community service though. When it is determined who owned the gun (s), that player will likely receive a stiffer sentence.

So get over it!

From my perspective it boils down to bringing people into the program that you can trust to generally do the right things. Occassional toe stubbings are a part of life's learning experiences and acceptable as long as the core character of the individual is in place. I don't believe its the coach or the university job to parent and discipline the students and student-athletes. Here's what I'd like. I'd like to hear Hamilton make a statement as to what changes are going to be made to improve the the probablility that the players brought into the program are generally trustworthy to make sound decisions. Actually, I'd love to have a conversation with him about it, but I don't see that happening. If there are only a few of those that are blue chip athletes and they all end up going to the Dukes, Kansas and UNCs of the basketball world, then so be it. We'll just win less games and I can live with that just fine.

A level headed post. A little character in what's being recruited would also be nice.

I agree everyone needs to chill out. Everyone smokes pot. They just were just stupid enough to speed while hotboxing their car. The robbery was a much more serious crime than smoking weed.

that's a lame comment not everyone smokes or has at one time smoked pot.they should be held just as much accountable for the drugs as the robbery.pot is wrong so is robbery!

Here's my take... Was it stupid? Yes. Did these individuals learn a lesson? I hope so. Should this ruin the future of 4 young men? I don't think so. No one was hurt. Thank God. As long as they are treated fairly, and in line with other fair punishments for like offenses. Then I say let the punishment fit the crime(whatever that may be), put them on probation and let this be incentive to stop sleepwalking up and down the floor play hard or get the eff out. It is a privilege to play for your education. Act like it.
