So long--ut basketball

This could be one of the best things to happen to ut in a long time. For all of you who think that pearl is a good coach ... YOUR WRONG! From day one he has recruited the most thugged out kids he could find. He is a poor recruiter and coach. The one thing he does well is motivate his team but it takes more than that to win national championships. He has never recruited a pg or big man worth a crap. He gets athletes and although we have seen improvement in the program were still not ever going to win it all with these players and cbp. Now don't get me wrong a lot of the success is because of him but these sweet sixteen seasons get old after a while. We never beat the top programs because he is not an x and o type of coach. Williams is terrible and so are tatum and goins. Smith could have been good but is lazy and a wanna be gangster. We need someone like roy williams, coach k or tom izzo. We need more fundamentally sound players, maybe a pg who can handle the ball. I mean come on we have tyler smith bringing up the floor at times. Smith and chism should be playing hi low and staying inside. He has no clue as to who the best five on the floor are. I love tennessee sports but I get so tired of watching this mess when they could win games with a better coach.

I agree and vehemently disagree. "This could be one of the best things to happen to ut in a long time." I totally agree.Tyler Smith is the most overrated player I have ever seen wear the orange...Cameron Tatum is mildly better at defense that Lee Humphrey was...Brian Williams is a turnover machine...And Melvin was a band-aid like Bobby Maze because CBP struck out with Elliot Williams and Willie Kemp. I think the team will play better and this will hopefully get Scotty out of his shell completely.
From day one he has recruited the most thugged out kids he could find.
Thugs = Felonies. How many players has CBP recruited that are guilty of felonies? Have you ever heard hip- hoppists rapping about midemeanors?

After seeing Pearl on the news tonight, it is obvious he is embarassed and upset at the actions of these players. I think he will handle it fairly and firmly in each case and let the punishment fit the facts of the crime. Character does matter! These are young adults and should be trustworthy enough to carry out their responsibilities as student-athletes in an honorable fashion. They are getting a free education while playing basketball. Mike Hamilton needs to raise the bar for expectations of our athletes on and off the court/field and put proper penalties in place that will help us find quality people who are also great athletes. They do exist.

+1 ...hope you're right!

I believe we should wait until these men receive an opportunity to present their defense through legal counsel and the due process awarded them as a Citizen of this country. If, after the process, they are found guilty, then make decisions concerning their futures at that point.

Just watched my last UT BB game. "Team leader" Tyler and his doping tattooed coharts won't be on my viewing list anymore. And thanks, Tyler, for projecting the thug image of the Vols right here at recruiting time. I would rather watch some good guys lose em all than watch that bunch again. Give em a pass if you want----no mas for me. Tennessee is an institution of higher learning---First and foremost, and one I am currently not very proud of.

Win at all cost? I think not.

I hope not to see anymore of your posts on the subject, yeah!!!!!!!! DORKS ARE AS DORKS DO!!!! GOODBYE!:the_finger::the_finger::the_finger:

I agree everyone needs to chill out. Everyone smokes pot. They just were just stupid enough to speed while hotboxing their car. The robbery was a much more serious crime than smoking weed.

No everyone does not smoke pot. Speak for yourself.

Bye. They will struggle along without you.

Young kids like these are what's turning many people away from sports. Trouble is always near by. Look how many times NBA, college, pro baseball and NFL players get in trouble these days. There always has been trouble in sports I don't remember anything nearly this bad when I was younger. Just gets annoying with time!

Some of our self righteous fans may be a bigger problem for our basketball program than the poor choices and actions of these student athletes.

Should these 4 young men be excused from the team. Seems like that is a tough question on this board. Bottom line is high profile athletes have their on set of rules which dont apply to me or most people on this board. College athletes should be held to a higher standard mainly because they are getting a free education. If they cant live up to these high standards then yes they should be excused.

you know you got a problem when people say o they did nothing wrong... .the gun was the problem not the drugs??.... drugs are the reason half the players get kicked off the team anymore, or something having to do with drugs.

people need to stop accepting drugs as being ok cause its not i dont care if its weed or cocaine.

i think UT needs to have a zero tolerance policy

dude no offense, but you were the same ******* making us all look bad on the national forums talking trash with everyone just a few years ago. I don't think you need to be giving anyone lessons in class.

A few years ago?

Get a clue.

In other words, hire good sleazy lawyers to skate the system? If it looks like a thug, and acts like a thug------

Perilous times----right is wrong and wrong is right.
It should be a privilege to wear that Orange uniform.

"From day one he has recruited the most thugged out kids he could find"

Hopson, Negedo, Hall, Woolridge, Chism, Williams are not "thugged out" to any degree.

and for those on this board that say that these athletes "represent UT" - come on - wake up and smell the coffee!!!!

I would venture to say that a number of UT fans who are criticizing the coaching staff and the players involved never even attended the hallowed halls of UT. In my opinion, major D1 athletes do not "represent" the schools they attend; instead they represent the teams and coaches that they play for. These athletic programs have become financially independent organizations with big time boosters who are calling the shots. Any semblance of athletes actually representing the schools that they play for is based only in history. These kids get a scholarship for their efforts, the value of which pales in comparison to the salaries that their coaches receive.

This being said, the players in question violated certain criminal laws and got caught. Suffice it to say that a number of us have violated the "law" but luckily we were not caught. The judicial system will determine the fate of these guys. If the players do not have lengthy criminal records, the charges will likely be reduced and each will get a "slap on the wrist". Before you start talking about preferential treatment for athletes, I must let you know that I am an attorney and the vast majority of these kind of cases get plead out to a lessor charge with little to no jail time. They will probably have to a lot of community service though. When it is determined who owned the gun (s), that player will likely receive a stiffer sentence.

So get over it!

Bruce has not recruited thugs.

He does however have a soft spot for Rejected Retreads.

You are wrong...see the Tobias Harris thread! Wait and see, Bruce will make you eat your words.

Absolutely. A high % of the FB team are good guys. Can't say that about the BB'ers---not now.
Seen any Eric Berrys on the court? Lady Vols FNO.

So after the quality guys like Travis Henry, Nilo Silvan, Leronard Little, Dwayne Goodrich, etc, you still don't turn your tv off?

Yet four morons cause you to quit watching bball?

And you get upset when people call you fairweather.

How ironic.
