So much Tennessee flavor on this staff.

Nothing illogical about comparing the man's words with his actions. He said he would "leave no stone unturned" in assembling the best assistant staff in the country. So far, he looks to have turned over exactly two stones, at USC and UC. It's not illogical for fans to look at these names being tossed around for the staff and have concern that CBJ is overpromising and underdelivering. That's not a very wise practice for CBJ starting things off here.

Marion hobby - DL
Kevin Steele - LB
That's two that SHOULD have been contacted and would be an obvious upgrade from UC's staff, and WOULD come here.

Ron Zook -DC
Don't know if he'd take the job but should be called.

Hobby is the only realistic person you listed. Tee is already being talked to. Who else you got?

Zook runs a 3-4 so that is a bad fit. Steele had a stroke mid game against WVU in his last game at Clemson. I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole even though I would take him if that incident didn't happen.

Jay Graham... Maybe Tee Martin, but I doubt it the way things are going.

Promises... Promises

How about shut up and let Jones fill his staff before you jump on him about the number of former Vols on the staff.

I'd much rather him have a staff that knows his system than one that has to get used to what he wants to run anyway.

Ahh yea another day passes and another one of these posts. Hell why focus on the positive when I can see 100+ posts of negative BS a day. Makes for some sleepless nights anticipating what top flight morale posts will be waiting. Keep up the fantastic work. There is still 3 positions left to fill, will be on pins and needles anticipating the reading that will follow the last hire. I better warn CBJ he better make Tee priority and more Vol roots or suffer the wrath of the negavols.

I'm about to the point where I'm going to give up following Vol football for a while. This is getting worse and worse.

Btw, if Shannon is so great why is he just a position coach at TCU?

Go choke on Jimmy Cheek's booger, Doolander.

Shannon's record as a DC is the whole reason he was hired as HC at Miami, in the first place. FSU is looking at him to replace Stoops, so STFU.

He really needs to get Tee Martin if at all possible. If he is going to bring the rumored guys, he needs another good defensive coach that is not from his Cincinnati staff as well. I can understand that he wants to keep a core of people he knows and can trust but he is stepping up to a higher level of competition and needs more staff that knows and understands that level of play and has recruited the SEC before. I know he thinks a recruiter is a recruiter but it takes time to build relationships and we need at least a few people that already have those relationships built in the Southeast.

I'm not here to pump sunshine up your ass, bro. No one forced you to read or post.

I don't have any power to stop him from filling his staff. Now **** off.

All I can hope is that we get Tee.

This will save a little grief in this whole debacle for me.

If he doesn't, I just give up.

I don't mind coaches from Cincy. But I do mind coaches making statements with no intentions of backing them up. I think he needs at least 3 coaches with ties to the Vols to show he's serious.

I don't really agree with this. I think Tee should certainly be brought in, but beyond that, I'd just be happy to see him go after an allstar defensive staff. Bringing in his Bearcat buddies isn't fulfilling that promise.

His rep was inflated by NFL rosters. He was also the last resort hire when no one else wanted the job. Is he a 'good' DC? Sure. Is worth throwing hissy fit that CBJ doesn't hire him? No.

Time to change your name to just Nuttin.

I'd be good with that too.

It does concern me that he made the statement that it would be the best staff in the country, and he is mostly bringing in the Cincy staff; however, I want to see how they recruit over the next two months. They need to set the world on fire, or I am going to start to be concerned.

If the purpose of hiring his staff is so they will be on the same page from the get-go, and also because they really are great coaches, then they should be able to recruit like gang-buster from day one.

On-the-field coaching is important. Recruiting is more important.

I don't think it has to be purely former Vol players either though... It could be former vol coaches. Ron Zook for instance.

As for players, there's Dale Jones as well.

And we haven't got Tee yet so don't get ahead of yourself.

You are off the reservation. All Jones can do is offer Tee. He cannot force him to coach in Knoxville. If you want to blame anybody if Tee doesn't come here, you can blame Tee.

As for Zook, the guy faxed our playbook to Florida. And, I find it more than coincidence that Florida owned us after the playbook was faxed. You cannot trust him.

Finally, "best staff in America" is subjective. I have no doubt that Jones will feel that way about his staff. I trust him more than you.

We have some real morons on here.

What is so awesome about Ron zook? I love Dale Jones but what has he proved? I love coach jones and he was my favorite from the beginning once we got past the unrealistic choices....I want our coach to bring in the staff he feels comfortable with and trusts.

Why does there need to be a "Tennessee" flavor to the staff? I don't care if the entire staff came from Bama as long as they win. The people he is bringing know his system and are proven winners and have familiarity with each other. Look at Urban's staff in his first year at Florida;

Steve Addazio - Indiana
Stan Drayton - Mississippi State
Billy Gonzales - Utah
Chuck Heater - Utah
John Hevesy - Utah
Doc Holliday - NC State
Greg Mattison - Notre Dame
Dan Mullen - Utah

Charlie Strong was the only coach he retained. He brought most of his guys from Utah with him and added guys from Indiana, Mississippi State, and NC State. Not what I'd call an all-star staff now would it? Also look at Kevin Sumlin, he brought a majority of his guys from Houston. While also adding coaches from USF, Texas Tech, Stanford, and Boise. They seem to have done alright this year in the SEC...

So, is this offense CBJ wants to run like what Oregon runs? If so, it should be exciting to watch. However, if the offense scores as fast as Oregon's does, our defense will be on the field longer which hopefully wont be a problem.
