So much Tennessee flavor on this staff.

Why does there need to be a "Tennessee" flavor to the staff? I don't care if the entire staff came from Bama as long as they win. The people he is bringing know his system and are proven winners and have familiarity with each other. Look at Urban's staff in his first year at Florida;

Steve Addazio - Indiana
Stan Drayton - Mississippi State
Billy Gonzales - Utah
Chuck Heater - Utah
John Hevesy - Utah
Doc Holliday - NC State
Greg Mattison - Notre Dame
Dan Mullen - Utah

Charlie Strong was the only coach he retained. He brought most of his guys from Utah with him and added guys from Indiana, Mississippi State, and NC State. Not what I'd call an all-star staff now would it? Also look at Kevin Sumlin, he brought a majority of his guys from Houston. While also adding coaches from USF, Texas Tech, Stanford, and Boise. They seem to have done alright this year in the SEC...

Excellent points. Some Vol fans aren't ahppy unless they are bitterly complaining about something.

Volatil is a bigger boob than the ones shown on his avatar.

I don't really agree with this. I think Tee should certainly be brought in, but beyond that, I'd just be happy to see him go after an allstar defensive staff. Bringing in his Bearcat buddies isn't fulfilling that promise.

They were not his buddies, they were coaches he trusted that were getting the job done.....most have ties to the south and are highly thought of coaches.

It's from the introduction presser. Not that I agree with the OP.

Actually he never promised an orange feel. He was asked if that was important and he said "yes", said Tee is someone he would look into, but never promised any such thing.

He promised the best staff in America that would have Tennessee flavor.

That's what he said. He's not fulfilling that. I'm calling him on it. Get over it.

Keep pumping that sunshine.

I don't recall one hint of a promise of a Tennessee flavored staff. The only thing close was the specific question about Tee Martin and his answer made no such promise.

Did he really mention a Tennessee flavored staff???

So, is this offense CBJ wants to run like what Oregon runs? If so, it should be exciting to watch. However, if the offense scores as fast as Oregon's does, our defense will be on the field longer which hopefully wont be a problem.

I've seen a couple of Butch Jones coached teams and it's not going to be anything like Oregon's offense and I mean that in a positive way. He will have an "up-tempo" offense, often going no huddle much like what Tennessee's offense did this past season. He said it will be a pro-style offense. I consider that to mean the utilization of tight ends/fullbacks as opposed to 5 wideouts spreading the field. Butch knows this league is won and lost at the line of scrimmage and will put an emphasis on solid front 4 defensively and being able to run the ball physically. The personnel that we currently have is set up to be a pro-style offense and a 4-3 base D. As he said himself great coaches scheme around the talent of their players. :good!:

(On having a `Tennessee guy' on the staff)
"I do think that's important. It's really important to for our players and understanding that there are some players that have been there, done that and gone through the trials and tribulations and understanding of where to go. I'm going to work extremely hard to get that component on our staff."

I'm not sure where someone heard him say "Tennessee flavor." Aren't those the same words everyone was using to describe Jon Gruden's hypothetical staff?

Never mentioned Tennessee flavor!!

He answered the question that was referring to having people that recruited the south and he said that was important, but we kept Graham and are making a run at Tee. He never actually said Tennessee Flavor that I remember, that was a term in the question he was asked I think.

Better than all that Gruden garbage you posted.

Anyway... We get told that we're going after the best coaching staff in America... Well that's a lie. Then we're told it will have Tennessee flavor ie former coaches and we have but one.

You guys can keep buying what is being shoveled but I won't.

Preach it brother. I refuse to buy crap and be told it's steak any longer. Show me team that is competitive with, anyone on the schedule and I'll come back. The people that continue to buy in to the crap their selling over there continue to amaze me. I know, save it for someone that cares, I'm not a true sheep ahhh I mean fan....

Correct he never promised a staff full of Tennessee flavor. The op has clearly misrepresented what he said in his efforts trying to push his agenda

Some of you guys are simply beyond human comprehension. Butch Jones has barely been in Knoxville for 48 hours and you are already Monday-morning quarterbacking the micromanagement of his staff selection process. Oh wait, it isn't even Monday morning, yet, is it? Why don't we wait until we actually KNOW what his staff is going to look like before launching into the knee-jerk hypercritical mode for which so many contributors to this forum are renowned? If he winds up with seven out of nine members of his coaching staff as members of his previous regime at Cincinnati, then you have legitimate grounds for criticism.

This could quite possibly be the best staff. IF it looks like this:
(HYPOTHETICAL combination of everyone's interests)

oc-mike bajakian
qb- tee martin (co-recruiting coordinator)
wr- t.j. weist (co-recruting coordinator)
rb- jay graham
ol- don mahoney
dc- john jancek
dl- steve stripling
lb- al wilson -------> can anyone tell me if he has had any coaching experience?
db- willie martinez
special teams/te- mark elder

Go choke on Jimmy Cheek's booger, Doolander.

Shannon's record as a DC is the whole reason he was hired as HC at Miami, in the first place. FSU is looking at him to replace Stoops, so STFU.

You have some anger issues. Why not have a civil discussion?

Teams are only allowed 9 assistant coaches. I do not believe Al Wilson has coaching experience.

I know but all these so called fans that demand so little from the administration. As long as people keep devouring it up they'll keep serving it up. Non of our rivals would put up with this crap. That's why they are where they are and we are where we are.

It is Jones' butt on the line if he loses. I will judge him once his team is on the field and we see what they do. Until that time, he will do it his way and not mine.

You can love his staff or hate them. You can think it makes sense to for him to hire his guys or think an all star staff that has never worked together and may or may not understand his philosophies is better.

I have my own opinions but they mean ZERO when it comes to wins and losses. All coaches are judged on this. So will CBJ. It is his rodeo so let him ride.

Well, I seem to recall the phrase Tennessee flavor being mentioned at some point (may have been a reporter), but nowhere was a promise made.

What crap? Actually letting the new head coach pick the staff that he believes gives us the best chance to compete and win? That sure is a novel concept, at every other SEC school that just poll their fans and pick the most popular choices
